And I seriously doubt OCSD would discuss that with li'l ol' me.

That is not necessarily true, they will search and exhaust all leads regardless if they have evidence, so that defense or family has no questions as to the leads being followed up on.

Ok. So you are saying that LE is justified in spending taxpayer dollars following up on tips of an alive Caylee when they have incontrovertible proof of her death? The defense would be laughed out of court if they tried that argument.

I would say that LE is pretty certain that Caylee is dead, and that this incident changes nothing. The tip was compelling enough that LE could not ignore it, so they followed up on it. This incident demonstrates why the public shouldn't really get hung up on whatever words LE uses to classify their ongoing investigation. They basically follow the evidence. This case overwhelmingly looks like a death case ... but it doesn't mean that LE will ignore any tips that might contradict this.

Pretty certain is not sure and only one thing contradicts death.

Yes, but Crimesolver4U is probably right--the defense could hold this up to the jury to inspire doubt--unless the prosecution could show that sometime between following up on this lead, and the time they charged Casey w/ murder that they came upon new evidence, or something else that dramatically conviced them that Caylee was definitely dead.

Maybe the DA could spin it (if necessary) to state that LE only had PRELIMINARY forensic results back during the time frame that LE wasn't definitive about Caylee being dead.

That is the lab was still in the process of performing redundant tests to confirm/back up the claim Caylee was indeed dead.

Come to think of it that is what they (LE) might in fact be doing.

I would love to know what SS thinks about this theory or idea...

Well, for me anyway, it is yet another tip that did not pan out because Caylee is not alive, and the A's know this.

The fact that LE is not following up on these leads makes me believe they are not looking for a live Caylee and they are only in the process of making their case.

Yes, but YOU don't know the date. They could still be in the process of backing up the intial results, similar to bringing in 2 cadaver dogs instead of relying on just one. LE is under no obligation to share this info with anyone.

LE responding to this potential siting will preclude the defence being able to say that they (LE) did not persue all avenues possible in the search for Caylee (alive or dead).
