Found Deceased Siletz, OR - 2yo Dane Paulsen, missing from yard of residence, 01 MAR 2025

Mar 4, 2025
'Hundreds of search and rescue crews consisting of Oregon law enforcement, federal officials and volunteers continue looking for a 2-year-old boy who disappeared days ago. The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office said it got a report around 4:25 p.m. Saturday that Dane Paulsen was missing from his home north of Siletz. Dane was last seen playing in the front yard and out of sight from his parents, the sheriff's office said. He is also described as "friendly and fearless," and loves vehicles and water but cannot swim. Dane is comfortable around strangers, the sheriff's office said.'

This first photo is so sad- all the search vehicles parked at the Paulson house and the water right there. Different perspective.
Good catch... This story is heartbreaking. That poor, sweet boy. I know he's with Jesus, but my gosh those parents...my heart breaks for them.

I imagine it's turning into a recovery effort. In my opinion, it was always a recovery effort.

That river leads to the ocean, so it's entirely possible he's never found. I hope that's not the case though.

Another presser 430 PST...

Just came back home from bringing food and drinks out to LE and volunteers. Totally heartbreaking. I hope this doesn't turn out to have no answers like the Kryon Horman case. The parents are well known in their community and it just takes a second for a child to wander. I strongly believe that another person saw Dane, like the driver was cleared who also saw Dane. JMO, but I think he was abducted.

I am so sorry for what you and the community are experiencing. I really hope there are some clear answers at the presser by the local police department. Thinking of y'all. ❤️

What a lovely thing to do.

Unfortunately, when water is as close by as it is in this that is the likely outcome imo. There’s been several recent cases where children have gone missing and ended up in a nearby water source (my worry here is that he may never be found due to this leading directly to the sea)

Just curious what makes you think abduction?

That river looks so ominous. I hadn’t quite realised it was so big (I have a river at the end of my yard too, but it’s like a big stream, comes up to my knees, that is a river). Do you think it would be impossible for him to get to the river from the property?

Thank you for all you are doing. My heart sinks every time I come back to this thread because I just don’t want to read bad news.

Yes, the river could have played a part, but I do not think so. He grew up in these surroundings and I personally do not think he went to the river. The property is huge. The mother was inside her father's trailer with her father's dinner, and she heard him quite alot until she didn't. JMO, but I don't think he made it that far to the river. The gold car driver was cleared, and I strongly believe another driver could have seen him as well. I thought about it a lot because it was a 2-hour drive for me to head down there. I like to think out of the box and I think there is a strong possibility he was taken by another driver. JMO

He grew up on that property and I don't think he went there. I think he knew that was a big no . Yes, he could have gone but I just get a strong feeling about how one car saw him so there is a big chance another car saw him too and he was taken by an unidentified person. JMO

It takes my breath away -- that beautiful boy, Dane, is out there somewhere. Prayers for him, for those who love him, and for those LE and others who are looking for him.
He is two years old.

Presser Update:

Recognizing how difficult this has been on the family. "The pain and tragedy that they are facing is unimaginable."

Thanks community for support and concern.

Despite intense search and rescue efforts, Dane has not yet been located. Local area has been thoroughly searched by law enforcement, volunteers, drones, k9s, thermal imaging, night vision, watercraft and drivers.

682 acres and 341 walking miles have been covered. Two river miles have been thoroughly searched by divers. Investigation still very active and remains a priority. "We want to bring Dane home."

Based on the information from search efforts and following up on tips, we will now be concentrating on a very focused area. So far the evidence available indicates that Dane was at the river's edge before his disappearance. Because of this we will be focusing the majority of our search efforts on searching the Siletz River.

Talk about burying the lede!

I literally just logged in to ask where the presser was, thank you.

God I just keep thinking, if this were my little boy... Those poor parents. Those poor, poor parents. Let's just all hope nothing absolutely horrible happens in one of the inevitable moments that WE have to turn our backs for a second =( I know there were lots of times when my youngest was a sick baby needing constant holding, and my middle was a hellbent escape artist only 14 months old, and I wondered if it was even possible that I could keep all three kids safe long-term. Just wow, this sucks so bad.

Lucian Munguia a couple years ago in not too far away Yakima, WA, was immediately who I thought of when I first heard about this case. Vanished at a park along the river, found three months (?) later, poor baby =(

Water freaks me the hell out as a mom.

Sigh.... Perhaps he was at the Rivers edge with his mom earlier in the day to make impressions in the mud. Still a lot of unknowns. Heartbreaking for the family.

I totally understand wanting people to keep looking and not give up just because of the possibility of him being in the river. But he is 2, not 12. He has not grown up at all. 2 year olds do not understand death or even severe injury. Their physical independence at age 2 is disproportionate to their cognitive skills. Ages 1-3 have the highest drowning rates of all pediatric drownings and most of those are a result of a child running off and ending up in a body of water unattended. My cousin’s child drown at age 3 after eloping from the yard and climbing into a pool, despite being raised around and taught to stay away from pools and despite it being a rural area with large properties and there being multiple fences and trees between him and the pool… and it only took moments for him to be out of sight. People can and should keep looking in other areas if they can, <modsnip>
