Our gmc truck has one and you have to hit 2 different buttons so it couldn't be turned on accidently and if it's left to idle the truck will shut off after 10 minutes as a safety.

Wow! I'd never heard of these remote starters before. I'm back to thinking it most likely is an accident again. Guess we'll just have to wait for LE to figure this out before we decide definitely.

FWIW, as a single mom, it's quite possible that the mom bought the car second hand and the remote starter installed by someone else. When you purchase a used car, it's hard telling where it could have been from originally.

Prayers for the victims and their family and friends. This must be a very difficult time for the family.

What else would cause the carbon monoxide if that's what it is?

Fire-rescue workers found Loretta Wilson, along with the family dog, outside and in front of the house. The family dog was taken into custody by Animal Care and Control and is recovering.

Interesting the dog is recovering too.

Until the medical examiner rules differently, I'm believing the mothers first story out. The van was running. JMO

There are a couple of really heartbreaking articles written regarding the funerals - one about them being best friends, another regarding the recent journal answer that Caitlin gave to the question about what she thought Heaven would be like: In her words: Caitlin Rose Brondolo

And there is a bit more about the SUV...mother told investigators she turned off car's engine -

"There's the perception that this woman ignored the problem," Alexander said. "That is not the content of this case."

Wilson told Detective Allison Farrington on Wednesday that she turned off the Ford SUV before going to bed Saturday night.
When she woke about 9 a.m. Sunday, she tried to wake her daughter but her daughter wouldn't stir. The house was flooded with deadly fumes.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office initially circulated a statement that said Loretta Lance Wilson, 45, told investigators she couldn't turn off her 2006 Ford Escape's engine after parking it in the garage about 10:30 p.m. Saturday.

Also, New information in young girls' CO deaths, PBSO admits mistakes - According to authorities now, the mother Loretta Wilson said she never left the car running over night and said that she had problems with the car in the past and that at other times she had turned off the car and heard noises or fans still going off.

Okay, I can understand the "noises and fans" after turning your car off. I had a car that did that. I'd get out and think "Why is my car still running????" Drove me nuts until I figured out it was a fan - LOL

This is just awful, imo. I can't believe LE they gave a wrong statement to the press.

Not that it makes it any better, but I'm glad to see that the mom did NOT leave the car on and this seems to be possibly some malfunction of the car. Guess the maker of that vehicle better get some reps over there pronto. Sounds like they've got a problem that could have caused these young girl's deaths.

How sad for both of these familys. I can't imagine losing my daughter over some freak accident like that. I never doubted the mom's story. I can see how anything can happen in this day and age. I'm glad LE got their story straightened out because this single mom doesn't need any more pain in her life then she is suffering right now. I hope she has a strong support system.

I have an alert set for any news but nothing so far. I'm very curious as to what happened with the vehicle in the garage. How did it get turned on and why did it stay on?

It was so beautiful that the two families buried the girls next to each other. That one made me cry.

Did not know this story was on websleuths until today. This happened about a mile from my house, but I did not know them. While I thought it was the right thing to do, I could not bring myself to go to the memorial service. Was big news locally at the time, but then it just stopped. Nothing. Will try and find an update if I can, but read both local papers daily...Palm Beach Post and the Sun-sentinel and have not seen any updates. So sad.

I live in FL and my stove is gas. My prior residence in FL I had a gas furnace and gas stove. I had an electric stove previously, but now that I have cooked on gas for awhile, I love it.
