Yes, you are right. BUT did you not get the impression that RH stopped and WAITED to see if the man was going to get too close to his car? That's the impression I got from it.

RH could have been looking at his cell phone, but he still would have known, without looking, if the man got too close to his car. I would assume if the man had seen CH in the car, he would have yelled for help which RH would have heard.

But the people who say RH did it intentionally say he went to the car at lunchtime to check and make sure Cooper was completely roasted, cooked, baked, broiled, bbq'd, etc...

not this people.

This one feels that his trip to the car and the light bulbs were an excuse to find his deceased son with his coworkers/friends/2nd business partners there to witness that discovery. I believe the head turn may even have coincided with them pulling away, hence no witnesses, therefore no discovery.

I think he wanted that lunchtime reveal and the friends unknowingly thwarted it and therefore it became very important NOT to see Cooper at that time after all. It avoids the question by his coworker/friends later as to how on earth did you not see him at least when we dropped you at the car and you put the lightbulbs in it?? - Well I was in a rush to get back to work (sexting) and so I just opened the door and chucked them in there, I didn't even look in the car.

Question: How would they know that the adjustment was the tightest one, I mean, know that independent of what Ross told them? It was Ross who undid it and placed him on the pavement. I know zero about child car seats, but I'm sure most posters are familiar with them. TY JMO

On any car seat, there are several different slots for the straps to come out of and as your child grows, you need to adjust them. Cops could tell on the scene that the straps were coming through the slots meant for a newborn. Cooper was too big for the seat, so at the very least, the straps should have been coming out of the highest slot.

Wouldn't there have been a very strong odor in the car at lunchtime if for no other reason than a dirty diaper. Our outside garbage can smells horrible after sitting outside in the Texas heat for several hours even when the dirty diaper is inside a plastic bag which is inside a Hefty garbage bag.

He actually demonstrated IMO to the court that as he leaned down to the point where his head might get inside the frame of the car, RH turned his head to the left which meant his face and eyes were NOT viewing the interior of the car. So whether his head was below the frame or above the frame of the car makes no difference, his line of sight was not the interior of the car which I think was Stoddard's point in the testimony on that subject.

The subjective point of the "discrepancy" is that Stoddard interprets that head turning just as his head approached the frame of the car as making sure he could not see the son he knew was dead or dying in the car. While the defense wants to claim - see, his eyeline was above the car and so he probably would not have had a chance to see his dead or dying baby. Same point, very different interpretations. ....

Ross' lunchtime visit to car - Are both state & defense saying based Ross' head position, he could not have seen baby in back seat?

IOW
is state implying Ross made a deliberate head turn, so could not see baby, but poss could still smell odor of baby.

IOW
Is defense implying Ross (w head outside/above car frame)could not see baby
and is leading up to, later, at trial, implying could not have smelled odor of baby.

Anyone?

cady, in the carseat thread discussion there is a link tot he actual make and model carseat manual. It illustrates the three slots in the back of the seat meant for adjustment of shoulder strap height as baby grows.

hope that helps

Has it actually been stated that JRH asked to be dropped at his car to put his lightbulbs inside? I initially thought that his friends probably suggested it, "hey we're pulling right by, why don't we drop you here instead?" And he didn't have a reason to say no to them. I don't necessarily think it was a plan on his part at all. MOO

A lunchtime reveal?? LOL, that's funny to me right now, but if you are right, it's pretty sick.

Was his head turn toward his friend's car?

I sure think it would smell.

Should RH have noticed the pungent odor when he opened the car door to leave the light bulbs after lunch?

This is very plausible.

I also think he may have heard Cooper choking, so knew it wasn't the time to put on the show for his pals.

I mean it's possible he turned his head to avoid seeing Cooper because he knew how bad he was going to look, since he had researched it and intentionally left Cooper there. Even if he caused his death he may have been repulsed by how gruesome the results would be and were. Which is why he did not try to hold or help his baby son, and a total stranger was the one to try to administer CPR at the scene.

He would have been still alive or, IMO, very newly dead.

No idea. I have not heard any evidence from the State as to what the state of Cooper's diaper was at that time.

There are witnesses who said he did attempt CPR.

It is certainly possible, but IF Cooper was still alive, he may not have soiled his diaper yet. At 22 months, children don't require as frequent diaper changes as do younger children. They can go hours with a dry diaper. However, being in physical distress might cause a child to pee or poop (fight or flight).

Of course if Cooper were dead, his bladder and bowels would have released. :(. So yes, i would imagine that would smell in the hot car, even if the smell of decomp was not yet present.

Either way, I believe Ross did this on purpose, so even if he smelled death or poop, he still wouldn't have done anything until he was ready to stage the "discovery".

Ah! I see this now. I only remembered the person who was doing CPR while Ross was on the phone.

Do bowels release upon death 100% of the time?

Newer cars are more airtight than the clunkers some of us rode around in, lol, and therefore when RH opened the SUV door both at noon and after work he would have been hit with a rush of hot air right up his nostrils. Similar to opening a vacuum-packed can. The odor wafts out.

As a father of a 22 month old he'd know the smell of a dirty diaper. That alone would have triggered a memory of Cooper. There may have also been vomit and the smell of early decomposition, especially after work. Smells that weren't present in the morning.

Unless and until I see a report that RH lacked all sense of smell I find it impossible to believe he could have missed such an olfactory clue.

IMO he knew when he opened the door to toss the bulbs that Cooper was no longer making a sound.
