Yes, they drink arsenic out of Mason jars, saw it on a documentary on TV. I think it was this same "church". They get bit by poisonous snakes and drink arsenic. What do they think is going to happen? :notgood:
I had never heard about the Arsenic drinking.
You know in the 19th Century addiction to and abuse of Arsenic was not uncommon, you can get High from it.

Yeah well you can also get a type of natural "high" from high adrenaline activities. It is called an adrenaline rush. I would think that snake handling would give an adrenaline rush.

I watched the show a couple of times out of curiosity. What I saw was that most of the related activity appeared to give them the adrenaline rush..... obtaining the snakes, hiding them from the law and using them in services. I don't really have a problem if they wish to worship that way. It takes all kinds. But I do think that if they take their kids into the area of the church where the snakes are though, they should becharged with child endangerment.

His son plans to take over his father's ministry and keep the snake who killed his father. He plans to handle that snake during this weekend service. According to Lexington TV stations.

I don't know. Looks like he could possibly be disqualified for the precious Darwin Award - although it does say "climbing into a cage of wild animals" is disqualified, not taking a wild animal out of a cage and messing with it.

Maybe a mini-Darwin, just for the ridding the gene pool?

'Too many people were getting hurt': Snake-handling pastor and his congregation EVICTED from their church after legendary preacher died from bite AND his son was bitten
Pastor Andrew Hamblin's Pentecostal church practices a rare, century-old tradition of worshiping God with venomous snakes to show how He protects Christians
Clyde Daugherty, the owner of the church building, said he evicted Mr Hamblin because he seemed more interested in media attention than the word of God and too many people were getting injured or dying from snake bites
Mr Hamblin and fellow serpent-handling pastor Jamie Coots who died in February were stars of National Geographic's reality TV series Snake Salvation

I thought snake-handling would fall under religious freedom. If someone who practices Santeria is allowed to sacrifice chicken and goats, why would this be restricted? However I agree that if the animals are not cared for properly, criminal laws may apply. Or if the handlers lose control of an animal and an untrained observer is injured or worse.
