Jürgen Habermas, one of the most influential philosophers and public intellectuals in post-war Germany, has died aged 96.

Habermas, who began teaching philosophy and sociology at the University of Frankfurt in the 1960s, vocally supported the student revolt at West German universities at the time.

He was a leading member of the "Frankfurt School", a body of thought critical of capitalism from a "new left" perspective distinct from traditional Marxism.

Eurogliders founder Bernie Lynch dies age 72​

Bernie Lynch, founder of Australian pop group Eurogliders, has died at the age of 72.

Lynch underwent treatment after being diagnosed with throat cancer in 2024. While that treatment was successful, cancers began to appear throughout his body towards the end of 2025.

After founding bands The Stockings and Living Single, Lynch formed Eurogliders in 1980, recruiting frontwoman Grace Knight, who had recently moved to Perth from the UK.

Of the band's many Australian hits, the biggest was Heaven (Must Be There), which peaked on the charts at number two upon its release in 1984 and reached number 21 on the US Billboard charts.

The popular musician died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Caherlistrane, Co Galway overnight.

A member of the renowned Keane family, she first came to prominence performing with her aunts Rita and Sarah.

She performed with De Dannan in the mid-1970s and recorded several albums with then husband John Faulkner, before embarking on a solo career.

She enjoyed national and international success.
