SOMEONE who knows SOMETHING has to come forward!

Was there a pawnbroker who took the laptop--as to my limited memory, that's still missing, isn't it?
Where's the knife? Has his entire "collection" been accounted for?
Is there a brother or sister protecting their own?
Is there a mother protecting her son?

My guess to the last 2 questions is, yes.

My hope is that there is a spurned ex- girlfriend or disgruntled former friend or co-worker who lived through Raven's embezzlement from their mutual employer out there who knows something and will come forward.

Shout out to decent people who were touched by Raven and Janet Abaroa:
Please do one hard, unselfish thing which matters greatly in 2006.
Go to the police and tell them what you saw, heard, or know.
Janet Christiansen was a lovely young woman with a beautiful baby and another one on the way. Please think of her and her childrens lives.
Two lives were ended, and one little boy will never know his mother. He may well be raised in the same conditions which produced a felonious thief.

PLEASE HELP STOP THE CYCLE. Kaiden deserves an emotionally healthy, truly loving life. Janet and her baby deserve justice in this world. Think about the victims. Make the call, please.

Thank you for reading.

Hi Thinkoflaura,

Well the thing about those shows is it shows you the evidence circumstantial evidence and evidence that does NOT get admitted into trial as part of their SHOW. More things do not get admitted into at trial than does. I worked in the legal field for over 20 years and most of that in defense.

For example, we the people knew more about the Scott Peterson trial than the Jurors did. They did not hear 1/2 the information, we remember all this information but at TRIAL it was NOT shown to the jurors, the Jurors never even heard about it, WE heard, but it was not admitted into as evidence at the trial. That's where it counts, not what WE hear, but what is shown to the Jurors. One quick example was The Viagra. The Jurors NEVER heard about that, though Scott Peterson was found with Viagra on him when the police followed him forever on the chase in which he landed up at the golfclub and he was arrested then and there for the Murder of Laci Denise Peterson and Conner Peterson. The only reason much of the evidence was allowed at trial was because it was direct testimony (Scott's own words.)

The article that Eww quoted from was here:

http://www.newsobserver.com/102/story/384135.html
"Police in the Triangle investigated a number of bewildering murder cases in 2005. In Chapel Hill, a teenager whom police charged with killing his parents attended a prom the weekend of their deaths. In Durham, four men were executed in a quiet subdivision. In Raleigh, a woman was accused of arranging her husband's murder with her teenage lover. Though some of Raleigh's murders had head-turning twists, the number of killings was at the average level for the past nine years.

Police investigated 20 murders in 2005, up from 15 in 2004, according to the Raleigh Police Department. The city's 2005 homicide rate was 5.8 murders per 100,000 residents, up from last year's rate of 4.7 murders per 100,000 residents. As of Sunday, police had made arrests or issued warrants in 18 of the 20 slayings."

The 18 of 20 slayings was for Raleigh not Durham, unless I am mistaken and they are one and the same, but I don't believe so. These are Raleigh's statistics.

In Durham, however, there were 38 murders, including a quarduple homicide recently. The article quotes 36 but I heard there were 38 murders.

"A five-year high

In Durham, murders reached a five-year high in 2005. Thirty-eight people were shot, beaten, strangled or stabbed to death within the city limits.

Investigators ruled that two people were shot in self-defense, making the total number of murders 36, up from the previous year's total of 30.

Police have made arrests or taken out warrants on suspects in 23 of the killings."

So, in truth 23 out of 36 have had arrests or warrants on the suspects. That's a bigger number than 18 out of 20.

Trix,
I seriously don't understand how or why things like embezzlement, affairs, life insurance, could be eliminated from Janet's Murderer's Trial. Doesn't all of that information show a pattern, or at least that there was a money problem in their household? And doens't that money problem point to a possible reason to murder a wife? I don't get how it could be left out. Dang, why didn't I go to law school?

I guess this is yet another reason why there needs to be a little more media coverage on this case. I would think whatever it takes to get Raven brought to justice would be great.
Jenifred, there is a good chance if they arrest Raven and the embezzlement led to the Murder or an affair led to Janet's Murder, it may be allowed at trial. Certain things about Raven's past won't be, and there is still a chance the embezzlement would not be allowed. I'm not saying it WON'T be allowed, depending on the evidence and what happens during all the pretrial.

In pre-trial many things will be omitted as inflammatory and that's the way the Justice system works. Doesn't mean it won't slip in somehow, but it all depends.

I hear you about law school. I think to myself why didn't I become a Private Investigator instead of lowly Paralegal.

..so, police have made arrests/taken out warrants on approx. 60% of the murders in 2005.........which does not sound good to me..

..i would hope, that if the murder rate substantially increased, that so then did the # of LE .........but we know that that's not usually the case......( in canada anyway).

..does anyone else fear that this will be one of those "cold cases" that TOL and her hubby will be viewing years from now ?

..i agree with TOLaura............i'm looking up the "old" thread SES began to hit the media etc , it can't hurt to flood them with reminders..........

The 5 year high 23 out of 36 leaves 13 unsolved along with previous unsolved murders from the year before, the year before that and so on probably dating back 20 years or more. Divide all those between 8 detectives, and there is a reason for more hiring more detectives right there.

Raliegh: 18 out of 20?

Durham: 23 out of 36?

Maybe Durham can ask Raliegh detectives for some help???

  • #27
LOL Eww.

Yeah, that would work! Since Raleigh is the Capital of North Carolina, I'm sure they have many more, and should send some Durham's way! I'll call the Governor's office!

I have noticed many new crimes solved in Durham, including unsolved homicides dating back pretty far, so they are tenacious and will get this murderer.

In the up to the minute news. poster Paradise has posted a news article about a missing woman who is being discussed on WS. The site is credited for interest in finding her.

Here is the news article:
http://wfmz.com/cgi-bin/tt.cgi?action=viewstory&storyid=12083

I hope so much that this woman is found alive and unharmed, and I also hope so much that WE can make a difference in Janet's case. Maybe it will take the right person writing in, maybe it will take a savvy reporter doing his or her own Google search like the ones above did.

I hate to say this again but I am going to: I am sure that Janet's family is very nice and unassuming. I doubt they are the type of people to call and visit the investigators assigned to Janet's case or to publicize the murder by offering a reward or anything, because they have yet to do so.

We KNOW that the man she was married to has not and will not be doing anything to bring any attention to Janet's murder, for his own reasons.

It's up to us.
Again, I ask you to remember that a six month old baby was in that house while his mother was slaughtered in cold blood, savagely stabbed as she apparantely fought back.

Again, I ask you to remember that Kaiden is in grave jeopardy of growing up in the same environment which produced his father, a lying, cheating, recently convicted of multiple felonious embezzlement counts person.
Do you want this for Kaiden?

Again, I ask you to remember that had they lived, Janet would be holding a new baby in her arms now.
She had so much love to give. She and her baby deserved to live, just as all of us deserve to live.

Each of us must take another go at a stand outside WS. Write, call, email, send faxes or telegrams- just get the message to the news media that we have NOT forgotten Janet Abaroa and want to see the case come to fruition. Write her district's Senators and Representatives.

It's not just YOU and it's not just ME, it's ALL of us who must become involved and stay involved to affect interest, concern, and ACTION.

I am greatly encouraged by the other case's attention.
I will post the name of Janet Marie Christiansen Abaroa 1 million times if it helps ANYONE find info on her case.

Thank you for reading, and God bless.

Thanks for your post Thinkoflaura. I think it's great that Websleuths was announced on WFMZ-TV Online and that Websleuths is keeping up with Miriam Acevedo's case and I hope she is found soon.

Websleuth's does so much to keep up with Victim's and their cases and I am proud to be a member.

Thank you also for keeping up with Janet Marie Christiansen's forum and writing to media outlets.

I know many have written to media outlets and I hope this story can get sparked again in the media and there will be Justice for Janet Marie and her unborn child soon.

Please Read - Media Appeal
WebSleuths members, guests –

More and more it seems the we are exhausting new "leads" to pursue in Janet’s murder. Revisiting information, discussing theories, speculation on the who, the what, the where, the when….all extremely important, I think anyway. But in order for this case to truly be SOLVED, we need FACTS.

LE remains quiet about this case – hopefully as they work the case towards a resolution.

Media remains quiet about this case – Well, I can’t imagine WHY, quite frankly.

We have put out the word, if you will, to anyone who has first hand information, insights, whatever, about ANY aspect of this case, to share that information here….if they feel comfortable doing so. We’ve had new members provide amazingly insightful information.

What we need now, I think, is a broader appeal – to the media.

The media has power, whether you like it or not, they do. The media also has investigative resources that are often not available to us here. And, I maintain anyway, the media has a RESPONSIBILITY – to viewers, to readers, to citizens. Reporting an event is not the end of a story. True investigative journalism is about two things – INVESTIGATION and REPORTING.

Accordingly, I suggest we start an email campaign to every local media outlet. (Broaden nationally if necessary, but certainly only a local level at minimum.)

If each and every member of this forum, as well as our frequent guests, would send an email to every person on this list, MAYBE, JUST MAYBE, it could LIGHT A FIRE under someone, somewhere – to dig into this case. To pressure LE if necessary. To, quite simply – INVESTIGATE.
If you do choose to contact any or all of these media resources, it will be very helpful to post that information here as well – who you contacted, when, and any feedback you receive.

The following is just an EXAMPLE of a POSSIBLE email to send:

******************************
Dear _________,

As you know, on April 26, 2005, Janet Abaroa was brutally murdered in her home at 2606 Ferrand in Durham. Janet was a wife and the young mother of a 6-month-old son, Kaiden. Janet was only 25. Her friends and family have described Janet as one of the kindest, gentlest people they had ever known. She was an athlete, having been a star soccer player in college. She was by all accounts, a loving wife and mother. She was a dedicated and faithful member of her church.

Janet was a good person. And, her life was taken.

If you search online, theories abound on what happened to Janet that evening. But, as informative as they are, they are just that – theories.

Please, help find justice for Janet and her family.

While I’m sure that local law enforcement is doing all it can in this case, the days continue to pass by. Durham Police stated that Janet’s murder was "not random," and that Durham citizens had nothing to fear with regards to this case. Yet, over six weeks have passed, with no arrest, no mention of suspects. Thus, somewhere, the murderer of Janet Abaroa still walks free.

Please, help find justice for Janet and her family.

There are online message boards loaded with information about this case. I have no doubt that you, personally, have investigative resources at your disposal. So, please do anything in your power to keep the spotlight on this case. Every victim needs a voice. Every family member needs a voice. Please, be that voice for Janet Abaroa.

Sincerely,

******************************

I wasn't sure where to post this, but Websleuths has a forum on 12 year old Amber Harris that if you have a little time, maybe you can check out the section also.

I wanted to share with you the story of Amber Harris. She has been missing since she stepped off her bus in Omaha, NE and there's been so many issues that have stymied the case, if you have some time, maybe you can stop by the section and read on the case and maybe you can see something that may help with the case.

Justice for Janet and her unborn child and prayers that Amber Harris is found safe soon!

Thanks Trixie

Laurie, I'm sorry, I did not see this, and I posted something off topic here about Amber Harris, the little girl from Nebraska.

Eric Olson is no longer working for Herald Sun. I don't know if he is even working in the field any longer. I called him to ask him to do more stories, and I got in contact with him on his last day.

I do have a listing of media contacts if you feel like writing. I pulled from different resources, including WS to combine to make one comprehensive listing.

News14 Carolina – letter received from a member of WS when first email campaign to media.

My name is Danielle Wang, I am an assignment editor with News14 Carolina. We are interested in doing a story this weekend about Janet’s murder, and I wanted to see if you would be interested in talking to us. From your email, I am assuming you were friends with her, and we would like to focus our story on how her family and friends are dealing with the event. If you can be of any help, please give me a call at (919) 882-4040 or email me back at this address. Thanks for your email and your help.

Sincerely,
Danielle Wang

trix:"I do have a listing of media contacts if you feel like writing. I pulled from different resources, including WS to combine to make one comprehensive listing."
----------------------------------------------------------------------

.............wow........that's quite an impressive 'list'!

..however, i can copy and paste--------i plan on writing to each and every one of them, it can't hurt............janet's killer is out there 'walkin' and talkin"...( and biking?) when he should be firmly behind bars............

..it's sickening that the murderer has had 10 additional months of freedom so far........

Thanks Lauriej - I know the Weather Channel isn't going to do much good, but figured may as well get everything I have out there.

*SIGH*

Just stopping in to say that I'm still here and still hoping for justice. I miss the days when there was still so much to say. I wish there was something more we could do. :(
