FBI formerly accuses North Korea of Sony Hack

THE Obama administration says it’s determined the North Korean government was behind a devastating hacking attack against Sony Pictures Entertainment.

The FBI announcement on Friday is the first official statement blaming the isolated country for the cyber-attack.

In the statement, federal officials say they found similarities between the tools used in the Sony attack and previous hacks linked to North Korea.

There are many things to like about North Korea in a sort of 'WOW .. I can't believe that one' kind of a way .. and even though, yes, it would be super embarrassing to be Sony right now, I must admit to enjoying this one immensely. It's right up there with this .. http://gawker.com/5511580/introducing-the-worlds-newest-fashion-icon-kim-jong-il

Spineless Sony is letting hackers run their company

CNN reports that top Sony executives received another email from the unidentified "Guardians of Peace"hackers last night, thanking the studio for canning The Interview, but demanding that they further humiliate and supplicate themselves on the global stage. Sony will now pretend this never happened.

The hacker message is effectively a victory lap, telling the studio, "Now we want you never let the movie released, distributed or leaked in any form of, for instance, DVD or piracy."

The message also says, "And we want everything related to the movie, including its trailers, as well as its full version down from any website hosting them immediately."

It warns the studio executives that "we still have your private and sensitive data" and claims that they will "ensure the security of your data unless you make additional trouble."

I'm surprised there isn't more interest in this topic. While I will freely admit that, prior to the news that North Korea is behind this, I didn't give a flying fig about this movie. It is certainly not my kind of movie and, were it not for the current publicity, I wouldnt be able to even recognize the two "stars" in a crowd.

But this changes everything, IMO. What's next? No more movies about the Navy Seals or War because it might offend the middle eastern terrorists? No more R rated films because some religous group is offended?

This is wrong on so many levels and sets such a dangerous precedent that I think all Americans should be a lot more concerned about this than keeping up with Cosby's latest acuser. But, that won't happen. Priorities and all.

Maybe I am just so upset because this has caused to utter words I never thought would come out of my mouth, but here goes......I agree with Newt Gingrich. America just lost it's first Cyber War. Mark my words this is a huge loss. Just wait and see.

Yes, this is the future.

Two weeks ago I wouldn't have sat through this movie if I was paid to. Now, I am willing to pay to see it. On line, in a theater, I don't care, but some murderous, insane dictator does not tell this American what I can watch. Not now, not ever.

IKR??? It's bad enough that North Korea represses it's own people, but to do the same to Sony and us because they've threatened so expose all their personal emails? Sony should release the movie online for a fee like someone else suggested up thread, or even just with so many ads flying around it that users don't have to directly pay, and show the hackers they will NOT be intimidated. Also, Sony should know, these hackers haven't shown us anything that we didn't already know, like we already knew that movie execs got off on tough talk about things that don't matter a dot, we know that movie stars are self important and largely spoilt and lack a work ethic, take drugs and are deluded, we know execs are paid well in excess of their skill base. None of this is shocking, it's just embarrassing and entertaining. Are they afraid of being personally harmed?

It's the threat of WHAT they will release if the movie is not pulled. WHAT is it that they are afraid of? Sony knows what they have and are holding over their heads, we have been privy to jolie being a brat, yeah so what. WHAT is it that sony doesn't want joe public or who ever to know that they pulled a movie. That is what I would like to know.

It'll probably come out anyway. Sony bending to their will was so stupid in my book because now the hackers will probably just want to see what else they can get them to do.

WASHINGTON — President Obama said on Friday that the United States “will respond proportionally” against North Korea for its destructive cyberattacks on Sony Pictures, but he criticized the Hollywood studio for giving in to intimidation when it withdrew “The Interview,” the satirical movie that provoked the attacks, before it opened.

US President Barack Obama, while saying the alleged hack was not an act of war, has promised an unspecified “proportionate” response.

Ms Harf said she could not comment on online reports that alleged North Korea’s limited internet connectivity had been sharply curtailed Monday, suggesting it was under attack.

The US administration is “discussing a range of options” in response to the Sony hacking, she said, stressing however that Washington would not outline publicly what moves it planned to take.

“As we implement our responses, some will be seen, some may not be seen,” she said.
