PE: As I said, I must have misunderstood. PB: Is that your best answer? PE: Yes.

PB: Do you agree that you could've mislead the court? PE: Yes, My Lady

Tears are falling from Dewani's eyes as he sits in the dock, listening to cross examination. Not sure what triggered it. Oh puhlease.

Dewani takes a sip of water as Van Zyl's colleague, Mr Botha cross examines the witness.

Witness: The position of the shooter is front left.

Botha refers back to evidence - where did you refer to trajectory of projectile? Why did you give this evidence under oath?

Percy Khaya James ‏@KhayaJames@KayaNews. 5m5 minutes ago

PB : What do you mean by answer no? Judge Traverso : Answer the question. PE: Yes I will my lady.

PB: It was your view that the hand which held the firearm, played an NB role (during Mngeni testimony)

PE: I said it would've been easier for the shooter to use his left hand.

PB: Do you know in which hand the shooter held the firearm? PE: No

Shrien Dewani leans forward in dock as he strains to hear the interaction between Botha & Engelbrecht.

Eyewitness News ‏@ewnupdates 2m2 minutes ago Sandton

Ballistics expert admits despite several tests he still can’t say where exactly Anni's shooter was.

Botha: did you know which hand the shooter held the firearm when you testified in the Mngeni trial? Witness: no

Botha: when you testified in Mngeni trial you didn't know distance between deceased and left front seat? Witness: no.

Nashira Davids ‏@nashhannibal 3m3 minutes ago

Another blow - expert cannot say in which hand the shooter held the gun.

EWN Reporter ‏@ewnreporter 3m3 minutes ago

Witness didn't know the measurements of Mngeni's arms when he testified in Mngeni's trial?

Leigh-Anne Jansen ‏@LA_JANSEN 3m3 minutes ago

PB:Are you saying to the court that you recently took measurements of the same vehicle in which the deceased was shot? PE: Yes.

PB: Are those the same seats? PE: Not sure. PB: Are you serious, Mr. Engelbrecht?! (DT- Mr Botha getting angry.)

PE: I'm not sure. I was told the back seat was replaced, at some time.

Pieter Engelbrecht seem to have his back against the wall with the defences' line of questioning

Leigh-Anne Jansen ‏@LA_JANSEN 2m2 minutes ago

PB: Without sounding facetious, if the seat is in the courtroom, it couldn't have been in the vehicle you examined

Leigh-Anne Jansen ‏@LA_JANSEN 3m3 minutes ago

PE: It must've been another seat.

Botha hands in a bundle of photographs.

News24 ‏@News24 3m3 minutes ago

Botha: Surely vehicle could not have had same seating as when deceased shot? PE admits he knew it wasn't same.

Nashira Davids ‏@nashhannibal 3m3 minutes ago

And another - expert only measured inside of the car recently - AFTER THE SEATING HAD BEEN REPLACED!

Leigh-Anne Jansen ‏@LA_JANSEN 50s51 seconds ago

PB: Can you see that the left front seat is more forward than the front seat? PE: Can't see if it's the backrest/seat.

PE:It seems as though the 1 seat is higher than the other. PB: It's very clear that the left seat was further forward.

News24 ‏@News24 52s53 seconds ago
Botha: Front left seat moved much further forward than driver's seat when shooting happened - looking at crime scene pics.

Leigh-Anne Jansen ‏@LA_JANSEN 50s51 seconds ago
PB: When you did your tests, did you position the left front seat in the same position as it is in this shot>?

PE: We didn't make any adjustments. We took is as it was.

News24 ‏@News24 52s53 seconds ago
PE: Tests done with seats in normal seating position. PB: What did you want to achieve measuring vehicle different to original?

PE: Would have been difficult to get original vehicle? Tests on different model Sharan, seats in normal position?

Botha hammering Engelbrecht for doing tests on vehicle different to original.

Well, Dewani is certainly getting his moneys worth from his DT, they're making mince meat of the ballistics guy.

From this cross exam, is appears the police were negligent in their reconstruction of the shooting.

News24 ‏@News24 1m1 minute ago
Where are the measurements of the tests done? PE looks at his notes. Mopp says these disclosed to defence, Botha disagrees.

Engelbrecht says it would have been difficult to get original vehicle.

News24 ‏@News24 1m
Botha: New rear seat has armrests, previous one didn't.

  • #158
Witness getting torn to shreds, unfortunately, rightly so, what a 🤬🤬🤬🤬 up by police. Are they incompetent or lack funding to do proper tests? I wish I knew.

RAHIMA ESSOP ‏@rahimaessop 43s44 seconds ago
Botha:I want you to look at position of left front seat, when compared to left pillar of vehicle in photo.

EWN Reporter ‏@ewnreporter 1m1 minute ago
Botha: the left seat is so far back you can only partially see the pillar (IN THE PICTURE).

According to defence, an entirely new row of back seats were in the vehicle before Engelbrecht took measurements this year.

News24 ‏@News24 53s53 seconds ago
Engelbrecht looking decidedly uncomfortable in witness stand as defence rips his ballistic tests, evidence apart.

Judge asks Engelbrecht how tests conducted, surely measurements must be exact? He agrees.
