Found Deceased South Africa - David Rene Roger Bellet-Brissaud, 48, Port Elizabeth, 13 Apr 2018

all the firsts led me to think suicide right off the bat, sadly...

But yes, I hope he is off on an adventure, or sorting out his life - those are better options to how this ends IMO. Terribly sad for those who love him as they await answers - ANY answers.

Wow. Was there another boat next to these "chokka boats" he might have gotten in, picked up by someone? This sounds like either delirium from ambien.

A little more info:

Snipped from article:
Police spokeswoman Colonel Priscilla Naidu said that divers had been sent into the water after video footage showed him entering a wharf within the harbour. The footage shows him jumping between three chokka boats docked alongside each other.

Police and security officials had also searched all three chokka boats this afternoon.

By 1pm‚ the police divers were deployed to search underneath‚ and next to‚ the chokka boats which were berthed at the wharf.

Naidu confirmed that CCTV footage of Bellet-Brissaud had been attained and showed him entering‚ but not leaving‚ a wharf on the harbour.

BBM. Does this mean he was jumping from one boat to another boat? At first I read this as meaning he jumped into the water between boats, but if he was going from one docked boat to another, that sounds like he was either looking for something/someone or maybe being chased and jumping onto boats to hide from someone. JMO.

I understood it to mean he jumped from boat to boat.

Did they not see on the footage what happened next? Apparently not ...

Well, with this, and the reward for positive proof of life, kinda makes me think possible kidnapping?

I can't imagine what he was doing or why, but it does sound as though the police are taking this seriously and are being thorough in their investigation.

No foul play is suspected, but from this article: https://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/...-recovered-in-port-elizabeth-harbour-20180419

"She said the body had been kept below the surface of the water by a tyre tied with a rope to his feet."

I'm any case, it's very sad.

From this article:
Police have been concentrating their search around the harbour, after CCTV from Transnet surfaced on Monday, that showed Bellet-Brissaud entering the harbour.

Naidu said accompanying CCTV footage of a man leaping between the chokka boats had been mistakenly identified as Bellet-Brissaud.

"Additional CCTV footage was obtained and reviewed by police, which showed David walking along another jetty, which is close to where the body has been recovered," she said.

I guess they don‘t suspect foul play because the additional CCTV showed that no other person was involved which would indicate suicide.

That must be it. :( Very sorry for his family/friends.

Could it be he got entangled in the rope while he was walking in the dark along the jetty? A tragic accident?

Very sad outcome. RIP David.

Why would he go there alone, in the middle of the night? I don‘t think it was an accident.

Autopsy finds that Ironman triathlete drowned

An autopsy on Friday morning concluded that Gabonese sportsman David Bellet-Brissaud had drowned. His body was found on Thursday in the Port Elizabeth harbour‚ weighed down with a tyre attached to a rope tied around his ankles.

[...]

The discovery of his body was made after new CCTV footage was supplied by Transnet, the Herald reports. The footage‚ in which Bellet-Brissaud was identified by the Adidas marking on the arm of his top‚ showed him on the opposite side of the harbour to where it was initially thought he had been.

In the previous CCTV footage‚ a man seen jumping between boats on previous CCTV footage was mistakenly identified as Bellet-Brissaud.

The discovery of his body has devastated his family. His brother‚ Gael‚ left the harbour in tears‚ accompanied by a police official‚ after identifying the body on Thursday afternoon.

An emotional and upset Gael asked for privacy for his family.

“Please‚ I want to beg for some time for our family now. It is a devastating time for us. We had a shock.”

Colonel Priscilla Naidu said Gael was at the mortuary on Friday morning to sort out paperwork. He did not attend the autopsy.

Why would he go there alone, in the middle of the night? I don‘t think it was an accident.

Well I think there could be totally innocent reasons. Maybe he had things on his mind, or didn't feel too well and hoped the proximity to the ocean would clear and calm his mind. jmo I can see myself doing the same. I love being next to the ocean and love walks at night when all is quiet.

I hope LE investigates whether the rope looks like it was tied by hand, or whether it merely got entangled around his feet.

I feel so sad for his family, especially his brother who id'd him. That must have been so hard.
