GUILTY South Africa - Jayde Panayiotou, 28, Port Elizabeth, 21 April 2015

What a monster! And he spent soooo much money already, poor man, his wife is dead, no big deal! He's quite calm considering all the stuff ups, there's no desperation in his voice and I think this is because it's SA, and he sees it as inconvenient if he were considered a prime suspect! He's out on bail too!!

It's interesting how CP has the same tone of voice like HvB, fairly soft spoken, calm, yet they're absolute psychopaths!! :scared:

Prime, he's not out on bail. He applied 3 times and each was denied. He has numerous relatives in Greece and was considered a flight risk.

He's been complaining about prison food, but strangely he's put on quite a bit of weight while in prison.

Alleged middleman, Siyoni is no longer in police custody and remains a section 204 witness until the end trial when the Judge will rule on his testimony.
Judge Dayalin Chetty told Siyoni on the day he was sworn in as a witness that if he is found not to be truthful, he will be charged on four counts and therefore lose his immunity.

He works at MTN. Manager at law enforcement liaison division

MS asks what the process would be if a policeman applied for section 205 access to a cellphone. "He would apply through a magistrate"

The technical unit would then do all the checks & balances.

In this particular case, information was made available to police in excel format

MS shows him a document with a case number. This is the subpoena which was submitted to MTN

court in session. Next witness is Darmesh Kanti (not sure of spelling as he is not on original list)
Kanti from MTN. He will assist when police ask for phone records with a subpoena for example
Kanti explains the section 205 (request from SAPS) will need a stamp from magistrate and then only they can proceed.
Kanti says once this is done they will access MTN's records
Kanti is shown a document in court he confirms it is the 205 subpoena
Kanti explains that senior manager will allocate duties to staff members before they deal with request.
Kanti says several numbers were part of subpoena but some were not of any interest.
Kanti now goes through the excell sheet and where they capture what (for court to have a clear understanding)
Kanti wants to clarify first MTN uses 6 different ways of identifying messages. Ex: incoming, outgoing, voicemail etc
Kanti going through technical mumbo jumbo about reference numbers, calls made etc

What is MTN's stance. Would they furnish info to IO without subpoena?
He says they would not if the correct channels haven't been followed

MS refers to the cellphone billing of a number ending 726.

Kanti is testifying about base stations & towers. This will later relate to the evidence of the cellphone plotting expert.

State zooms into specific towers. Kanti says the one is Algoa Park and the other at a flat in Uitenhage.
Kanti goes through several towers now giving their street locations.

The witness is shown a map full of red dots. These are tower locations

We hear the names of the various towers relevant here. One in Algoa Park, Uitenhage, Dora Nginza hospital

It is uncomfortably hot in court. Aircons are not working and the courtroom is packed

TP asks about Kanti's qualifications. He received a degree through Cambridge University in the U.K
[I bet TP is sorry he asked about his qualifications]

Kanti says he cannot comment on outside factors which would influence which tower picks up a call

Daubermann says he got these documents only TODAY and he wants to reserve his cross-examination for a later stage
(Kanti is from Jhb, which means he will have to come back to be crossed) Daubermann visibly annoyed
Witness will have to stand down for now. court will adjourn till tomorrow

TP refers to a murder case in US. Says a cellphone expert, "far more qualified than you" said calls could be picked up from 100 Mike's away

"I cannot comment on towers in America".

TP has no further questions. Peter Daubermann (for Nemembe & Sibeko) is not in a position to proceed now. Wants to prepare for cross-exam

Kanti has been excused. He will be recalled for cross-examination at a later stage. Court adjourns to tomorrow morning
