There's something decidedly odd about the DNA on the knife because Henri's right thumb fingerprint was found 15cm from the tip of the blade of the knife. If they were able to ascertain this, how is it that they found Rudi's DNA and not Henri's?

On the question of fingerprints, HvB himself said that he wrested the axe from the attacker. To do this would require a firm grip, and yet he left no fingerprints on the axe.

Yes JJ, both those points are really quite baffling. One person knows the answers for sure.

Marli could defend herself better, she fought harder, so there could have been a blockage between her and HvB if he wasn't splattered with Marli's blood, that would be Teresa.
Marli was probably the most aware of what was happening, no wonder she's blocked it out.

End of trial, some clever person could attempt a re-enactment?

From everything I've read, photographs I've seen of crime scenes and how it was established where the attacker stood, I find it impossible to believe that he could have struck Marli ? 5 times without getting any spatter on himself.

From blood spatter, it can be determined what type of weapon was used, how many times a person was hit with it, whether the assailant was right or left handed, the position of the victim and how they moved during the attack, how long ago the crime was committed, and how long the person lived after their injuries.

It is also possible, in some cases, to determine that a second attacker was involved in an event, even when no other information indicates their presence.

Every time I see that large pic Tortoise posted of the axe with blood on it I feel more than a little squeamish.

While we wait! Did anyone notice how HvB kept rolling something (a pencil?) through his right hand fingers for much of the testimony? Reminded me of Humphrey Bogart in his memorable performance as the paranoid Capt. Queeg in The Caine Mutiny where he continually rolled 2 metal balls together during his court martial!
