I see it too! What stands out is that they're both fantasists, logic isn't a strong point, at times child-like, they've got a superior air about them in manner and speech.
I'm thinking both charmed/manipulated their parents and others with their good looks and a sweet demeanor they can turn on or off like a switch.

I mentioned high functioning Autistic Spectrum Disorder a long while back. You may remember I said my daughter is a Scientific Officer of a charity that helps parents cope with this and other brain function abnormalities. She deals with the parents of children that can be charming one moment and violent enough to kill when stressed because they are quite unable to control their physical reactions.

Also it is not abnormal to notice speech that is different from the norm in that sophisticated language can appear very early with hfASD. HvB is said to be very bright and it could be that he could fall into this spectrum BUT he surely would have had a history of violent tantrums and inability to deal with stress etc noted previously although I have read that, rarely, hfASD sufferers may not be diagnosed until their teens. Arrogance and aloofness are well noted as is monotonic and robotic speech. Also Marli is known to have said that he is odd but that she was closer to him than to Rudi. Maybe his drug taking has contributed to his behaviour? Do I remember that this had deteriorated in Melbourne?

Now that we have seen him in the witness box, it seems fairly obvious to me that there is something very wrong with his behaviour in court. If one adds the arrogance and aloofness to the monotonic robotic speech and the loss of physical control one has to wonder whether there is some underlying problem that nobody has yet linked to these symptoms.

Edit I am not suggesting he doesn't know right from wrong or that he should not be found guilty of murder. ASDs often prefer prison to hospital for some reason.

Day 57 brings us to the 4th day #VanBreda is on the stand. His defense only had him on the stand for 3/4 of a day. State at 3 days & counting.
