Stories and photos I've compiled of a few of the ferry victims (click to enlarge pictures):

Billy Kim, a girl who acquired the unusual nickname because as a young girl she loved goats. It stuck with her as she grew up. Here she is hula hooping wearing a dalmation costume as a fun loving teen:

Jin Woo-Hyuk (no photo) had a pimple on his forehead. He was skinny and wore braces. When divers found the teenager's body in the submerged ship, he was wearing a pair of jeans and a light green hoodie.

Park Yi Sun, 16, wanted to be a television screen writer.

Lee Suk Jun, 15, waited tables after school to help support his family because his father was out of work.

Kim Cho Won, a teacher teaching her first year at the high school, was not much older than her students. She died on her birthday.

44 year old crew member Yang Dah Jung called his wife to tell her that the ship was listing badly. He said I need to hang up now, I need to rescue more kids. Use the money in the bank for the children's school fees. She never spoke to him again.

"South Korean authorities arrested three people Monday on suspicion of destroying evidence connected to the sinking of the ferry Sewol. Investigators also raided a Coast Guard office in a probe of how officials handled the first emergency call from a passenger."

<snip>

"The office received the first distress call from the ship when an 18-year-old boy dialed the 119 emergency number, the report said. "According to a transcript of the recording, a Coast Guard official asked the student to provide the latitude and longitude of his location, sparking criticism that authorities wasted crucial minutes before starting a rescue operation."

In his underpants.... did he take his pants off while in his cabin and not even take the time to put them on before jumping ship? Yet he expected all those children to make it off.

What was he doing in his underpants?!

Maybe didnt want to be recognized as captain of ship, so maybe this way he would look like a civilian and not a captain? IDK?

WHAT?! This is the first I've heard of this little detail. In the Captain's own words he left the third mate in charge of the vessel so he could "tend to something" in his cabin. What was he tending to that required him to be PANTLESS? How utterly bizarre.

South Korean president apologises for bungled response to ferry disaster as 'blind' divers use their hands and feet to find bodies still stuck on board

I feel so badly for those divers; I hope they have counselling available for them during this and afterwards.

Oh no popsicle, his concerns were all about the children! He was very worried about them catching a chill from the water before the rescue boats arrived within minutes, so he thought it best that they drowned in their cabins.

But it wasn't too cold for him to be in his skivvies? :notgood:
