Now, narlacat - are you sure Aussies need much of an excuse to wear wild clothes and drink??? Call it Halloween, call it Friday, call it "The-sun-rose-this-morning"? ;)

I've partied with Aussies all over the UK and Europe. They didn't need much of a reason - and being a U of Wisconsin college girl, I didn't either. (My university hosts one of the largest and wildest Halloween parties every year.)

I do understand, however, the resistance to multinational fast-food conglomerates... although often other countries have more success in changing their menus to be more health and enviro friendly...

Well, we are all evolving and America is no different.
But I don't want our society to become like yours.
We would do well to aim higher than your standards.

There's alot to like.
You can't speak for all of us, my standards are pretty high. I can't blame you thoguh if you think our standards aren't high, you see the worst of America on the news and internet, never the good parts.

I used to love it when South Park made fun of Barbra Streisand. Did anyone see the Ben Affleck/J. Lo episode?

Haha, I always have a hard time looking at Bill Maher. He's quite possibly the most homely man I've ever seen. He looks like the king of the undead.

As for this episode of Southpark, I thought it was pretty funny, even with the Steve Irwin bit. I suspect that those who actually did see the episode wouldn't be as offended if they knew the context that it was portrayed in etc.

I hear you Mama.

Sadly here too, the majority isn't in charge.
Most of us wouldn't want what you have, but we are headed that way.
Let's start a revolution! lol Wouldn't it be nice though to see your wants mirrored by those in places that could project change? Pipe dream I know.

Of course, you could zealously try to maintain your culture, but still allow a McDonalds on your most famous street, and then backstab the US whenever you can. (FRANCE...)

My husband and I strongly considered moving with my old company so that I would run a Data Center in Melbourne.

I'd prefer that the Aussies bring some companies and ideas over here. To me, it's a culture that knows how to have fun, work hard, not take themselves too seriously, but also be very concerned about political and international issues. We could learn a lot.

Chuckle.

We are trying, yours is a hard market to tap into..

It's our fave thing to do, make fun of ourselves...it is reflected in our jokes...when I have more time I will come back here and post one!
We call it 'taking the piss', maybe you call it that too, I'm not sure...

Nice to hear from you again Ang, what happened to the Melbourne idea?
Maybe too far for all your family, we are certainly a long way away..

Here's a joke.

An American guy wants to get more in touch with his Irish roots so takes himself off to see a surgeon about having a brain transplant.
He explains to the doctor that he wants an Irish brain instead of an American one and the doctor says- 'no problem we can do that for you without too much worry, it's an easy procedure'.
After the op, the doctor goes to see his patient and explain that the surgery didn't go as well as expected, 'the problem was', he said 'that we could only get hold of half a brain', the guy looked at him and said 'No worries! She'll be right mate'!!

Hahaha :D
