We hit 114 today. Low tonight should be in the low to mid 80's. Can't wait for the sun to go down!

76 here right now, LDRN...come on over, and we'll cook out before the rain moves in!

Sounds nice! I can't wait for the sun to go down tonight! I guess I will say to myself what I've been telling my hubby since he moved here...."But honey, it's a DRY heat" :floorlaugh:

LD, know what's weird? This weather.

It's 87* right now - overcast. It doesn't even feel like it's 87*. It's weird....it was wayyy hotter this morning than it is right now, and I'm strangely bothered by that. I've got my windows open, the house is cool, the AC is not on...

Weird. Just weird. I checked the weather, and there is no t'storm alert or anything...but it sure feels like it's gonna t'storm. Which would be interesting...

It's really hot here but we don't have the humidity you are probably getting there HC. I don't think I'm all that far from you, but a world away as far as weather goes. I'm driving to Irvine tomorrow, (my doggie needs to go to the vet and the closest specialist was Irvine). I'm hoping it will be a bit cooler down south.

There is nothing more fun than going in Summer to buy a new regigerated air window unit for a hot room, installing it to find it makes a loud screeching noise. Returning something that big is the pits.

Need to come to the beach HC...it was only 72 today here....

Charlie, I am wanting to go to the beach ASAP. As a matter of fact, the ladies of the dog park and I are trying to figure out when a good day would be to pack up the pups and caravan down there. How fun would that be??

LDRN, no, you're not getting the humidity we got yesterday. The high desert doesn't get as thick as it does down here...but it still gets hot up there!

The heatwave is supposed to continue through today - it is supposed to be cooler today at only 100*, but still, that's hot. LOL. Right now, it's overcast - thick black clouds to the east - but I bet it clears and gets hot. Or doesn't clear, and gets nasty sticky.

I want to have a good thunderstorm...but I doubt that'll happen.

More water out for the mailman and UPS guy today for sure, though (I leave small water bottles out for them so they don't fall over dead on the lawn. LOL).

Temp in Stockdale TX 95. I'm going back to WI. tommorrow (hopefully) where it's currently 68 degrees!

The humidity is absolutely killing me. Heat I can deal with but this sticky, wet blanket feeling is horrible.

  • #150
Uggh! This heat is ugly! Summers in WI. are comfortable enough to have a picnic, BBQ, family get together out in the great outdoors! TX...No thank you..staying inside...no fun! Uggh!

Winter in WI. SUCKS! Am I particular?

Yup!

Here in the Phoenix valley, I have had two late night alerts on my cell phone. My cell phone is in the living room when I go to bed and it's bellowing at me with the exact tone they have on TV. Both times it was for a dust storm warning in effect til midnight.

You woke me up for that?

Best news though is we are hoping to get our first monsoon weather this weekend with 30% chance of thunderstorms over the next three days. It will be nice to clear the air! Without much rain here, allergies can get nasty!

Quite an unusual turn of events for N. Texas in July. Hardly ever rains but we have had an unseasonably rainy week and a half.

Our lake levels are so low.. I hope this is helping some.
Our household water bill was over $500 last month ( for 2 adults).

Oh, and the thermostat went completely nuts on our upstairs cooling and heating system. I went upstairs yesterday and could not BREATHE. The temperature read 96 degrees with the air on. Called the HVAC people, they said the thermostat, which is new, along with the upstairs system, malfunctioned and was delivering both HEAT and COOLING.

They disabled the heat until they can get a new thermostat in Monday or so. The weirdest things have happened to us as a couple with heating and cooling central systems since we married a long time ago. This was THE weirdest thus far. The dude even had problems finding the cause. Whew- HOT up there until this afternoon.

Rain, we need more rain please. :)

Excellent New York Times article about Channel 9 meteorologist the veteran forecaster Gary England, with lots of weather lore about Okie-land.

This is a great - and l-o-n-g - New York Times article about an Oklahoma folk hero - Channel 9 OKC's veteran meteorologist Gary England, chock full of weather facts, experiences, and lore. Posted it on an existing thread earlier but it deserves one of its own. Must-read for tornado/severe weather fans.

The Weather God of Oklahoma City
---
England is the chief meteorologist at Channel 9 in Oklahoma City, a position he has held since 1972. This has made him a living legend in the state: the voice of public safety for roughly the last 2,000 tornadoes. Early in his career, he was notorious for issuing public tornado warnings before the National Weather Service did — a scandalous violation of hierarchy. He persuaded the owner of Channel 9 to invest in Doppler radar, a technology that promised to improve tornado-warning times to more than 20 minutes, from a single minute, before anyone was even sure it would work. (It did, spectacularly.) In the eyes of most Oklahomans, England is less a meteorologist than a benevolent weather god who routinely saves everyone’s lives. He has become a cult figure: a combination of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Foghorn Leghorn, Atticus Finch, Dan Rather, Zeus and Uncle Jesse from “The Dukes of Hazzard.” There is a popular Gary England drinking game that, if followed literally, would probably destroy as many lives through alcohol poisoning as extreme weather does. (Take one drink when Gary says any of the following: hook echo, updraft, metro, Doppler, wall cloud, SkyNews 9, underground, mobile home.)

Boulder area calls for thousands more evacuations

http://www.centurylink.net/news/rea...p-colorado_flooding_cuts_off_mountain_town-ap

LYONS, Colo. (AP) — With rain still falling and the flood threat still real, authorities called on thousands more people in the inundated city of Boulder and a mountain hamlet to evacuate as nearby creeks rose to dangerous levels.

The late-night reports from Boulder and the village of Eldorado Springs came as rescuers struggled to reach dozens of people cut off by flooding in Colorado mountain communities, while residents in the Denver area and other downstream communities were warned to stay off flooded streets...........

Hubby and I remarked on how fast the flood waters were. In our area a flood waters simply rise up unless you are right by a levee that breaks. In Colorado the flood waters looked like rapids! Easy to see why everything is eroding so quickly.

Wished there would have been a way to send some of the Colorado flood rapids to Jersey Shores area.
