Entirely possible they tricked him or forced his hand. Maybe he’s facing irrefutable evidence in this regard? Perhaps something to do with the suitcase? Speculation ofc. But the rental car quite possibly logged a stop in that locale for a period of time. If the area was impassible except for on foot, then I’m wondering what would his story be?

I happened to make a jaunt to Spain, a nation I had “never been to before”, then lied about it, turned up in Madrid on the same day my wife disappeared —some coincidence — and then on my drive back to Serbia, in a rental car I inexplicably modded and changed plates on, I decided to stop off for a few hours to appreciate the majesty of Veneto’s countryside?

Something tells me the FBI would be able to poke a few holes in that notion…

I'd make it simple. "I stopped for a toilet break in Veneto and got lost in that dense vegetation."

Her ex-husband David Knezevich, of Serbian origin, is under arrest in Miami for her disappearance, on charges of kidnapping and murder. According to US investigative sources, the man allegedly gave precise instructions on where to find the woman's body. Evidence against him would also come from cameras and numerous witnesses who would confirm his presence in the Vicenza area. The motive would be the division of an economic empire, which over the years would have made millions in profits. On the part of the investigators there is the utmost reserve: it is not known if and when the search will resume. The wooded area indicated by David Knezevich is very large.

"Economic empire" sounds grand, but I do have questions about DK's business. To divide the property according to the contribution of each spouse, one has to be transparent about the business. Maybe it was problematic for DK, and hence the decision to kill Ana instead.

I highly doubt that DK all of a sudden wants to help them find AK. As others have stated, I believe the decision to search the area was based on the rental car data or some other electronic data. He is currently trying to be released while waiting for trial. To offer up information of this magnitude would refute his efforts.

To be honest, I was surprised that DK would even travel outside of Spain with her body. I would think the risk would be high and that he wanted to dispose of any evidence fairly quickly but still out of sight.

At any rate, I sincerely hope this case finds closure soon. I'd hate to see him go free if they are unable to locate her.

Not sure if this has been posted already. It's the most recent update I could find online about the case against DK and where it stands. It sounds to me like the defense has submitted a motion for release on bond and that the prosecution has submitted their argument against bond while waiting for the federal kidnapping trial to begin. I don't know if a date has been scheduled by the judge in the case to hear the motion.

It took me a long time to get this article to open, but it is a good summary of the defense's arguments for their motion to have a hearing on the pre-trial bond issue for DK while he is awaiting trial in federal court on the kidnapping charge.

It is interesting that DK has a brother in Florida, but the prosecution is arguing that DK is still a flight risk because he has no ties to the area, and no ties with his brother who lives in Florida - the prosecution says they are estranged and they haven't been in touch with one another for years. Also, apparently DK's parents live in Serbia. In a court filing, Weintraub said her client should be released because he has lived in Fort Lauderdale for the past 15 years, is close to a brother who lives in the same area, and owns an information technology business along with real estate investments.

She also pointed out that “most of his ‘means’ are tied up in second mortgages” and that his estranged wife’s family has opened up a conservatorship to manage her property, leaving Knezevich with “very little money available at all.” Weintraub also said there’s “no evidence” indicating Knezevich’s wife “was taken against her will” or that she had a struggle with her estranged husband in her Madrid apartment before disappearing. More significantly, she said “there is absolutely no evidence” that Knezevich took any action in the United States to facilitate the alleged kidnapping in Spain. She said he was in Belgrade to visit his mother.

IMO, anything of her left in that area would be good. So, not necessarily body but clothes, etc. He could have left several things in several places en route.

Hopefully the Italian authorities will use drones and other high tech methods to look for any ground that has been disturbed, or trees/foliage that were disturbed by someone making a path into the woods. Or clothing/other items that stand out and are seen on the drone footage.

So here is my question. Ana chose Spain based on her previous travels in Europe. She did not plan to settle forever, at least initially. Prior travels might include a cellphone that is unlocked and used for foreign travels, and when unused, kept at home. During travels, US calls might be forwarded to a European SIM card number. Maybe several unlocked phones are kept at the household, if people are frequent travelers? Perhaps some additional information can be found out this way? For many hours there was hope that the case of Cogollo del Cengio, the junction in the Vicenza mountains possibly related to mystery of the disappearance of the Colombian-born American heiress Ana Maria Henao Knezevich, who disappeared from Madrid at the beginning of last February, might finally be solved.

Remains of bones were found this morning in the Astico river, in Piovene Rocchette (Vicenza), not far from Cogollo.

A thorough analysis made it clear within a few hours that these were not human fragments but the remains of a large animal.

It seems odd to me that the feds would be able to seize the cellphone and laptop of the defendant's brother when he returned to the U.S. from a trip overseas, and on the pretext of the brother bringing in a "ham" (i.e. food) through customs when he landed back in the U.S. and was clearing customs.

I guess Customs officers can seize your goods if they search you when you re-enter the U.S., but they should have a reason, not just a suspicion that you are returning with forbidden items, like a "ham." Sure doesn't sound right to me, and sounds like Customs agents were working with federal investigators to set this up and using some kind of pretext.
