Wow @imstilla.grandma … thanks for sharing this…. an interesting update. I wonder if there was evidence that the brother traveled to Spain? Maybe the location of her remains will become known? Someone else now seems ensnared….. so perhaps can leverage for evidence and information. MOO

"We charged aiding and abetting against the non-Lawyer defendants for their roles in continuing the conspiracy after they discovered that they were part of a murder plot," stated Attorney Adam Ingber who is representing the family

"There was a search warrant that was unsealed, I don’t have a copy of it yet but it’s coming out," said Adam Ingber, an attorney for the Henao family.

Felipe Henao said the uncertainty surrounding the case has been taking a toll on the family.

"It's horrible having to come here all the time and it’s just, I hate to be in this situation," he said

‘Death solves all problems’: Husband with ‘murder mindset’ leaves chilling Stalin quote in notebook before kidnapping estranged wife, feds say
...
Meanwhile, feds are also investigating the defendant’s brother, Ugljesa Knezevich, for tampering with evidence. They are particularly interested in a family trip he took over the holidays to Portugal and Spain. Part of the trip was spent in Seville, Spain, a five-hour drive and three-hour train ride to Madrid where his brother’s wife went missing. Spanish authorities told the FBI his “whereabouts on January 4 to January 5” are not known. The government is still looking for the defendant’s laptop and prosecutors are curious if Ugljesa went to dispose of any potential evidence.

A South Florida entrepreneur facing federal charges over the murder and disappearance of his estranged wife in Spain has died in custody, his lawyer confirmed Monday.

David Knezevich, 37, had been awaiting trial on charges that included kidnapping resulting in death, foreign domestic violence resulting in death, and the foreign murder of a U.S. citizen connected to the Feb. 2, 2024 disappearance of Ana Maria Henao Knezevich.

No additional details regarding the circumstances of his death were immediately available.

South Florida businessman David Knezevich – accused of killing wife Ana in Spain – took his own life in Federal prison in Miami. His defense team says they "hope that an appropriate and prompt investigation will be conducted.”
Why do they never START with that?

He just had to kill her. And for what?

He wasn't about to live without her. Until.

But she, she could have lived without him.

If he would have left her ALONE.

Well, can’t say I’m heartbroken about that one. It certainly is the coward’s way out, but it sounds like the pre-trial was a hardship for Ana’s family. I hope they feel some relief.

And yes, @Megnut whyyyy can’t they just start there? For the love of money is the root of all evil.

Yes @vls12345 … was also thinking similarly, since IIRC Ana’s remains have still not been recovered. I wonder if there is any further effort remaining on that since IIUC his brother also was charged with something in this case? Maybe there is still some information to help with that if so.

Additional details are in post # 1041 above from @imstilla.grandma on the matter involving his brother and charges. MOO

His defense attorney, Jayne Weintraub, said she learned about her client’s death from federal prosecutors on Monday morning and had a Zoom call with them and U.S. District Judge Kathleen Williams to discuss it later in the day. The FBI is investigating his death.

“It’s just terrible,” Weintraub said, adding that she and another defense lawyer had met with Knezevich at the detention center on Sunday after a court hearing on Friday. “As always, he was very appreciative and polite.”

Well, he believed that "death solves all problems". He must have realized that even without Ana's body, he wasn't getting away with his crime.

I wonder, what his brother has to say about his brother's death.

There may be more issues involved, I think. Maybe David was escaping questions about his business. Also, this way some money will be saved for his family as he did not plead guilty.

ETA: the more I think the more I wonder if Ana’s murder was not just for the money. Ana had been his wife for many years, they started the business together, perhaps he felt that she could be a threat in more than one way. Unfortunately, Knezevich is a very common name in Serbia (same as “Prince”, coming from the time of fiefdoms), so it is hard to trace him although I found the college he graduated from. But thinking logically, for a brother, to partake in criminal activity (if he did), it has to be not about brotherly love but about money. They are white-collar folks. Dušan buying the paint on camera looks idiotic, but Dušan died without admitting anything, meaning that he was not such a fool and had a lot of secrets to keep.

I wonder too if his brother knows where Ana’s body is. He is still alive and can hopefully be charged with the crimes he’s been accused of as well. I can hope that prosecutors might offer a plea in exchange for the location of Ana, but even if knows, I don’t have much hope that he’ll reveal it if he’s cut from the same cloth as his brother.

Are we sure that the brother lives in the US?
If he doesn't, my first response is, fat chance...

Thank you for sharing this information @indicolite22 ….. and not at all directed at you.

The words of the attorney. SMH. And I beg to differ somewhat with what was stated. What IMO was terrible is what her former client is accused of having done to his estranged wife. :( And then his actions to take anything with him by not being able to be prosecuted or tried or held to account for the charges. MOO

Was it worth it, David?

The fight was over the division of the property, 50/50 vs 40/60 or such? That was all this murder was about, plus the anger.

“Greedy pays twice” is a popular saying in Slavic languages. I think it is the sad morale of the story. RIP, Ana. Kudos to your faithful friends and relatives.
