Spain - Khrystyna Savenchuk, 15, Javea, Alicante, 20 May 2014

  • #21
Police have asked family to keep quiet as they are 'doing all they can'. That is very, very bad advice. In my opinion.
they weren't asked to keep quiet exactly, & there was a huge FB share campaign right from the start

we essentially have 4 police forces in Spain, local, national, Guardia Civil (almost an army) & the policía judicial

the policía judicial were/are co-coordinating the investigation & for whatever reason wanted to follow the leads without interference from the public to begin with

Very glad to hear the boy in Germany is a boy and not an online predator with a fake profile.

I am guessing Khrystyna speaks Russian and Spanish, but does she know any other languages? I find it difficult to imagine how she would negotiate her way in France, unless she speaks at least a little French.

ETA: Her long, long hair is very noticeable. Is it auburn or brown?

It would really help to know:

If Khrystyna took any clothes with her

If she took a passport with her

If she ever ran away from home

If her computer and online postings have been looked at.

Wouldn't she have to have a parent to get a passport? I guess a lot of European teens travel more than US teens so maybe everyone has a passport there all the time?

Thanks sjm & everyone for sorting this out to get me in!

I don't know about being an 'official' rep, but I do have permission to spread the word as much as possible - the family members don't speak English

the links which have been posted already give pretty much all the information any of us have about this

She left home at 7:30am on 20th May to go to school. When she didn't return home it was discovered that she hadn't taken her schoolbag, & wasn't wearing a necklace & earrings which she habitually wore. Her father searched for her but when he couldn't find her he went to the police.

It was thought that she was more than likely in Koblenz, because the lad she had been spending so much online time with lives there, & he had apparently been planning a trip`to Spain. The assumption everyone seems to have made is that she ran away with him.

The latest info is that her father found a 'farewell letter' hidden in her bedroom a couple of days ago, over 2 weeks after she went missing. In it, she says that she was no longer in a relationship with the Russian lad who lives in Germany, & that she can't see the point of living any more. The police yesterday were searching a countryside area of the town - they had searched it before, but more seriously yesterday & more searches of other areas are planned.

The lad in Germany says that he hasn't seen her or had contact with her since before she went missing.

The phone signal in Sagunt after she went missing adds confusion, or suggests that she was headed out of Spain - Sagunt is between Jávea / Xàbia & the border of Spain & France

& yes, as someone else has said, it's easy to travel overland in Europe with no passport, nor in fact any other ID

Her parents have lived in Spain for 10 years, Khrystyna only joined them 3 years ago & her elder brother still lives in the Ukraine. This is actually a fairly common situation; the parents will come & get settled, leaving the children with family & sending for them when they can. The parents have said that Khrystyna has never really settled in Spain & this is borne out by classmates who say that she doesn't interact with anyone at all.

Have they cleared this boy she was previously seeing of any involvement? Is it standard there to give a lie detector to boyfriends and family of missing people to be certain?
Sounds very bleak :(

Another poster tweeted by Spanish police. Again I can't post it big. :( I used to be able to do that - don't know why I've forgotten.

that's a very old photo, though it's the one the family originally gave to the police, the ones with the plaited hair & glasses were taken a week or so before she went missing

her hair is extremely long - at least waist length - & brown

she does speak Russian, but apparently her Spanish isn't great

No lie detector tests in Germany Schmae, which is where the boyfriend lives.

yes, that's the old photo - & it doesn't even have the school she attended right!

there was a lot of confusion in the first 24 hours or so, locally, because a girl from that school had also 'gone missing' that same day, but was simply skipping school with her boyfriend

she left home without her passport - & it's easy to travel across borders by car in Europe - there's no real border control

by plane or train it would be more difficult if not impossible

So am I going nuts or does that poster in Spanish say she's 16, while every article (and this thread) says 15?

yes the one with the old photo says 16 - but it also has the wrong school!!

she was in classes with one of my daughters, so should be 15, as stated in all the articles
