An individual who identified himself as Driss Oukabir Soprano came to the police station of the Mossos d'Esquadra in the town of Ripoll (Girona) this afternoon, where he resides, and reported the theft of his documentation.

Before, the police forces had spread the image of this person as the alleged perpetrator of the terrorist attack on the Rambla of Barcelona. Therefore, the diffused image does not correspond with the actual author.

DO saw his picture on TV and went to police!!

He went to police in his town & can prove he was not there when it happened.

He thinks it may be his 18 yo brother who stole his vehicle & documentation

According to Mayor of town, DO is NOT in custody...etc

This may be controversial-- but I think it's important for people to see what the fatalities/injuries look like.
You don't have to look.
But it's one thing for the news to broadcast that people were killed and injured ; but quite another to see how horrible it is.

Makes me seethe with anger-- the pain this person(s) have caused !!
Just innocents going about their day....
And it's not enough to just mourn with a candle light vigil--Not saying it's unnecessary -- but more steps need to be taken to find and jail/throw out the persons who helped this massacre to happen.
Sometimes an innocent person might get evicted from the country. But it's long past time to be so careful not to hurt anyone's feelings that the entire population of a country is made vulnerable.

I'm referring to terrorists of any background or ideology . Let's say there's a person who hates the government-- so he gets several other people to help him come up with a plan to kill and injure others.
My .02 is that every one of them should be in prison and then expelled from the country --even if only one of them carried out the plot and committed the actual crime.

So terrible this newest attack! I'm so sorry for those who died, got injured, and their families.

I'm so sorry to read the updated number of fatalities and huge number of injured. They and their families are in my thoughts and prayers. Thank you for the updates I'm in hospital with a bad kidney infection so haven't been able to watch the news networks I would be able to at home.

We do expect confusion in the early reports but how could something like the alleged hostages in a bar be so wrong?

We probably need to be patient and let some of the reports get hashed out a little bit.

Its hard to follow breaking news these days because of all the different news agencies trying to be the first ones to get the story.

It is good that we get news fast but we have a ways to go with the accuracy of the early reports.

I get misinformation but from being here -- we get it cleared out by 24 hours , so does the rest of the media meanwhile CNN is still reporting wrong who what when wheres WRONG

They are good IMO for when it is just breaking in terms of getting video but when it turns into the confussion place they end up efffing everyihing up

that is fine -- what has so turned me off to them is they dont catch up generally

MSNBC abc nbc cbs etc are far better on updating imo a big breaking story

On the Chareleston thread I had to get duct tape to prevent myself from getting banned in response to that post about that being a pedestrian accident

all we can hope is that no one directly involved saw that hideous post

I am happy to report that it took me three hours to get out of my duct tape so I did not get trouble

Hateful beliefs do not differentiate between skin color , religion, etc.

White supremacists are horrific. I know someone who tried to help a person like that leave his beliefs -- because his ideology was not only hurting himself but could lead to further acts of violence.

Sounds like a fantasy... but I wish we could put everyone who carries out violence because of their hateful beliefs and exile them to an island where they cannot hurt innocents and have to just deal with each other.

The mayor of the town, Jordi Munell, assured La Vanguardia: The man who presented himself as Driss Oukabir has explained to the agents that when he saw his photograph in the media he went to the police station and explained there that his document had been stolen. He also clarified that at the time of the attack he was in Ripoll. The mayor adds that Driss Oukabir is a well-known person in the neighborhood.

According to the mayor, the Mossos try to clarify why he did not report the robbery earlier and it is suspected that his younger brother could have stolen the documentation and be allegedly involved in the attack. This suspicion has also been confirmed by the former mayor of the municipality and deputy in the Congress, Teresa. Jordà. Driss's brother is called Moussa Oukabir, lives in Barcelona and is 18 years old.
