Kathleen Saivo had a restraining order against him that was later dropped. But he has been a cop ever since.

IIRC it was dropped before she died.
And yes, they are automatically dropped if the person dies.

Here, if the LEO owns the gun he keeps it. I'm not sure about IL. I just haven't seen any mention of his service weapon at all so I'm thinking he has at least the one weapon.

I believe the guns were removed with the first search warrant.

I had heard that the weapons were not taken from the home. But I did a check of media articles on the SW and found this.

Authorities seized several items during the search of the house, including two rifles. Peterson told FOX News he is not a hunter, but has a gun collection.

Stacy Peterson has been missing since October 28 and Gary Peterson's been on the case since day one.

He is not related to either person, but is in charge of coordinating every search, as hundreds of volunteers try to find Stacy.

And Gary does it without a dollar in return.

More like wild speculation or a Hollywood movie take on infamous Peterson deaths (I'm thinking of Terminator's Sarah Connor here). While this is a very creative compass-oriented approach, thinking in these circles means anything goes. A Peterson London? Peterson South by Southwest? You get the idea.
