She lived a few miles away from me. The poor girl had already raised concerns to the police that he was harassing / stalking her after she'd ended their relationship. The poor girl ended up murdered at his hands - RIP Alice (at least the 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 is where he belongs in jail).
I don't know what the answer is other than if you feel in danger you may just have to run away and hide / start anew (as the police can't be stationed at your home / workplace 24/7 as they just don't have the resources). Even arresting the stalker isn't a permanent fix as they'd be back on the streets in no time as they'll just reiterate that they "haven't done anything" - YET.

I agree with what to say stalking is a very difficult crime to stop before the actual horrendous crime in a case like this is actually committed.

Yup, the victim is always going to have to live in fear / look over their shoulder unless the stalker gets locked up (but that normally doesn't last long and isn't a massive deterrent to someone with warped / obsessed (possibly murderous) thinking).

Anyone can be a victim of stalking and many of the worst cases like the Alice Ruggles case can be the result of a relationship that has gone sour but of course anyone in the public eye can be a stalking victim because more 'nuts' out there can see them:

This is not me joking the former Radio One DJ Mike Read had a bad case of stalking against him:

Loads of folks have been stalked over the years, it just takes 1 mentally unstable person to get fixated on you. Glad I'm not famous or in a position where I fall onto anyone's radar, I'm careful and generally anonymous.

Totally agree with what you say about the fixation and mental instability thing. Of course people in the public eye are more likely to get a stalker because more people can view them. Most hopefully do not end in tragedy but then the very high profile John Lennon comes to mind where it did and love can easily turn into hate and many victims are unfortunately killed by people who once 'loved' them or felt they did. With the Newsnight presenter it is a terrible thing to have so much of your live consumed by something so negative. With regards yours or mine anonymity you can do things to keep yourself safe. This is half joke half serious point. You and I are both on this board :) and it is difficult to hide yourself away from life completely even if you lead an ordinary life and this is why cases like the Alice Ruggles is so sad and unfair because you can never really judge what someone is like until to try and get close to them and in cases like this it is then too late. I once a series on stalking where one serious case was about a woman stalked by another woman who did not like the woman's brief interaction at a firms party with her husband and there was literally nothing to it but an hello and another case where a young lawyer tried to help a young woman who a politician was trying to get a protective order against. In the case mention the politician told the young lawyer who would regret what he did and he took this as a threat but the politician was right as the young lawyer was stalked by the woman he tried to help for years. Thanks

I have started this thread about this case and stalking in general. It appears the victim worked for Sky when killed and here is a recent report from Sky News about this case and stalking in general:

Stalking protection orders: Police given 'powerful new tool' to protect victims

Alice Ruggles murder: Soldier Trimaan 'Harry' Dhillon jailed for 22 years

Here is a BBC report about the new Orders mentioned in the above Sky News report:

The one thing I will say if someone is sent to prison for a number of years it may break their focus on their victim (although in some cases it might focus it although I feel these might be fewer) and give the stalking victim chance to get away from the individual who is stalking them.

There are a lot of views on stalking and I have to say I am no expect but it is interesting to read and listen to them about this serious subject.

Here is a report from the Guardian:

New measures to beat stalking could put victims at risk

Here is part of the above article with a spokeswoman from a charity which I think was founded by Laura Richards:

New Home Office measures to tackle the growing crime of stalking risk becoming a “retrograde” step that campaigners warn could prompt an increase in murders.

The stalking protection orders, unveiled today, aim to block perpetrators from approaching their victims and allow courts in England and Wales to move quicker to ban stalkers from contacting or visiting victims.

However, some experts voiced concern that the powers could be used as an alternative to prosecutions, placing victims at greater risk.

Rachel Horman, chair of Paladin, a national stalking advocacy service, said: “This would be a retrograde step and could lead to an increase in homicides.”

Horman, also a solicitor specialising in stalking and coercive control cases, added: “The only way to keep a stalking victim safe in my view is to ensure that the perpetrator is in custody. Stalking is about obsession and fixation so nothing less than custody will keep victims safe.”

Stalking is often the product of relationships that for want of a better way of putting it that have gone wrong and one person more often the man wants control over their former partner. Here is a report about jilted lovers who have murdered in India:

Love-obsessed to brutal killers

Just been listening to the BBC podcast Stalked and there's an episode about the tragic case of Alice, the behaviour of the perpetrator of which bears chilling similarities to Kyle Clifford.
