it's heinous? if we were to endorse arias being, if i'm understanding correctly, vivisected and subsequently dismembered, we'd be no better than she is.
Vivisected and dismembered? No. That's not how organs are harvested, ever. And no one was calling for inhumane treatment of Arias. A mild comment was made that, given the shortage of donor organs, it's a shame something positive could not come from the defendant's execution. (Really, a similar, but stronger, argument could be made regarding the inhumanity of the DP.)
Currently, if Ms. Arias wishes to derive meaning from her death, or offer her family comfort that comes from knowing others will live even as she dies, with the gift of organ donation, she cannot make the decision to become an organ donor. That healthy and non-coerced inmates cannot exercise this right is the current controversy.
Maricopa County is beginning to listen to the inmate lobby for organ donation. IMO, it's a step in the right direction. Intelligent dialogue with those affected is the logical approach.
