I don't disagree, he was concise and to the point. That's why I'm curious to see how cross is going to diffuse this. I think it'll be annoying (esp to most here) is if he's says on cross 'well, it's possible the bugs could have gotten started at say, 8AM'.

It is possible some of those blow flys did lay eggs as late at 8AM..however given the life cycle and life stage ranges...IT's those pesky 3rd stage larvae that will be the sticky point...IF 8AM is the initial laying of eggs, I am sure this guy would have given that info too..

I will be listening to this cross very closely indeed. I too found this witness to be very credible and informative..and unlike some here, I am of scientific background..so really enjoy and understand this type of testimony :seeya:

I honestly do not understand why the State called this witness. He has IMO not helped their case at all.

That's been true for 85% of the prosecution's witnesses. They've done more for the defense than for themselves BY FAR. And then the defense still gets to do whatever they want to prove doubt.

Not looking good for prosecution. I hope they are able to find the real killer(s) soon.

By the size of the larvae, I got that the body was placed at the location it was found, between 1 a.m. July 12th, and 6 a.m. July 12th.

The larvae were large enough to have been layed at 1 a.m., all the way to 6 a.m. ......either one of those times being the FIRST larvae layed.

The defense has some 'splain' to do!

For those of interested here's a link to forensic entomology~~

Information about the development and appearance of some common forensically important insects.
http://www.forensicentomology.com/appear.htm

I wont copy and paste descriptions here out of deference to some who may be squeemish...It's not everyone who can tolerate this type of stuff :fence:

Why is that? Don't you just hope that a proper verdict is rendered? Glad you're not on the jury. This is still America - innocent until proven guilty.

Because I feel that Brad is guilty. We've been through this enough in the past several days. Everybody is entitle to their opinion, respectfully.

Has it been considered and discussed here that maybe Brad dumped Nancy's body before the first Harris Teeter trip? He then went to Harris Teeter and we see the first video of him in the long sleeve shirt, hat, etc. Any opinions on this scenario?

  • #287
This is not a court of law....we are not the jury.....innocent until proven guilty does not apply. I think he killed Nancy. I've always thought he did. And, guess what? It doesn't matter one little bit what I think!

The defense will desperately try to get this scientist to opine that there could be variability of the time the flies first landed to try and move that time up to 8am, at a minimum.

However, this is a double-edged sword.

Hi Tip,

Yep, it has been considered and yes, that certainly could be one possibility. There are several (perhaps many) who don't believe BC went home in between trips to HT.

Possible, but there is also the issue of the 6:05 phone call.

To me, it makes no sense if he didn't go home between trips but yet had different shoes on. That would mean he had the flip flops in the car with him. Why wouldn't he had put those on before he stepped in HT the first time?

It appears to me that the timeline is more likely before that 1 AM time period..as until that study graph was applied to the data..It initially pointed to 11AM July 11th..which we know was impossible....We will have to see how this witnes handles that...Did I mention before...I really like this stuff :great:

Bugs ROCK!! Sadly, I believe NC would agree!! Tell it like it is.

It very well could be. I think this witness will stand his ground on all of the scientific data and research so that his testimony is unimpeachable. The defense is going to have to slide something in that he's unprepared for if they score any points.

I'm sitting here thinking how much work both sides have had to do in order to simply question both of the experts we've heard this morning. They are J.D.s....not bug and rock experts. They have to have a good understanding of the evidence and a solid foundation of what to question in order to get the testimony they are looking for. They get outside help, and direct help from the witnesses, but it's still bound to be rather difficult to make it all come out or come to light just right. Sometimes the defense has better resources (money) to get most everything they want and the prosecution is limited because of funding. Don't know if that's true in this case since Kurtz is court appointed. Don't know if Trenkle is court appointed as well?

A mistake.

Given those telephone logs, and the tower pingings...Brad appeared to have been a very busy boy that night indeed...I wonder when the puter guy gets finished, he will be able to give a more specific timeline to Brad's IP Telephone, Computer useage...along with his trips caught on video post 6AM timeline....

I just cant out of my head, those poor kids being left unattended :banghead:

I feel the same about the children. And then that picture of the tv on the stand pops into my mind. He placed it there to keep the girls 'locked' into that room until he could get back home. It appeared to have been so easy to tip over.....that's what keeps playing in my head.

Thank goodness those girls weren't physically injured.

That's been my thought all along: He dumped original shoes (including a set of same foot shoes of NC's) in the dumpster @ HT after the first trip when it dawned on him he'd better ditch them. That's why the mat was out in the driveway - wash away the evidence from the ditched shoes.

It is liklely he dumped things in a dumpster but not HT. Possibly some other trash enroute - even neighborhood trash cans that may have been out the morning in his travels. Wouldn't HT have a video camera behind store near receiving and/or trash areas as well?
