Where do you think the defense is going with this, though? The Google search happened on his computer at Cisco so the neighbors couldn't have done that by breaking into the home network.

I've missed some of the testimony today so I don't understand exactly what he's trying to refute. Any thoughts?

ETA: LyndyLoo - Jinx!

Good point ... so I guess the IP address for the machine at the time of the search is work ... but with a home office that is connected to cisco network, is the IP address the home or work IP?

Laptop came home with him on 7/11, was seized from the house on 7/16 IIRC.

If so, it was likely connected to the home network during that period (while it was on).

I also think this Defense witness has demonstrated how easy it was for Brad to infiltarte Nancy's computer and possible her Cell Phone.....Dont know IF that was a wise thing to do????

I'll bet Kurtz was not too pleased when Ward started going on about how his CCNP was nothing compared to Brad's CCIE.

If you use firefox, just search addons (tools -> add-ons) and search for noscript. It takes a little getting used to because you have to grant permissions (either temporarily or permanently) for applications to run on websites you go to. For example, the wral video won't play unless you grant it permission to. But this helps stop malware crap on some web pages unless you allow it access to do it.

Thank you so much.

Since we all like forums. :-)
google: "cisco 1751 fxo forum 2007".
You can find people on forums asking for help on how to configure fxo cards on their 1751 in 2007 .
We're sleuthing, not taking testimony as dogma. Right? :rocker:

Are there different size fxo cards? I'm just curious since the Cisco expert said he had to have at least the 2600 series (or whatever 2xxx number it was).

I am lost as a goose! I do not understand any of this. I have to say that I do respect all of you computer people no matter whose side you are on!

But wasn't Brad also having lunch with a friend at the same time that the zoom search was done?

The lunch times were NOT precise as per the Cisco Employee who testified..He was initially approximately..but given the return to work time of 3PM..he realized it was more like 130PM//not 1PM....

Theoretically, a neighbor could have done this to gain access to the network after the 11th, hacked into the PC, changed the date on the PC, performed the search, then changed the date back.

But do the jurors understand what they are hearing?

I sure hope so. If they don't, they should let the judge know that this stuff is way over their heads and they have no ability to assess the evidence.

I think the defense intends to show that this was done at a later time and that the timestamps on the files (or the computer itself...then set back) were modified back to the 11th.

I thought maybe the angle is that he wasn't the one on his computer those four times between whatever time it was and midnight.

Indeed, I think you are correct on where he is going with this. All he has to do is place doubt into their heads. Particularly if he could nail down time he was having dinner.

I caught the last 20 minutes of testimony. The guy did a good job I thought of clearly explaining how one could hack a WEP account. If that is important for Kurtz's defense theory then well done.

I think this is really interesting. I think that the jury cannot ignore all the badmouthing from the neighbors ... how nearly all of them (and there were a lot) were convinced that Brad was a murderer as soon as Nancy didn't show up to paint (even though Brad was playing tennis at the same time). Now we hear how easy it would be for any one of those neighbors to hack into one of Brad's machines and mess with internet data.

Was the neighborhood full of computer geeks?

A neighbor OR CPD.

He didn't have to infiltrate her PC...he used it downstairs that morning. He said in the deposition that it was the family PC. We have a similar set up. We have a PC downstairs that we both have accounts on. Then I have my work PC and laptop and a personal laptop. She doesn't use anything but the home PC.

He is an incredibly good witness. Explains it well. Apologizes when it is technical and tries to break it down to layman's terms. WOW, Kurtz must have worked on him.

No. The witness said they left between 1 and 1:30. Said they were there for 1.5 hours. So it was closer to 1:30 when they left since they got back at 3.
