We know that she had her phone with her at the party. I don't see her storing it in the car for the night. It would be possible that the phone in the car was an old phone that she let the kids play with if there was a cell phone in the car.

That's a real possibility. We had some friends over for a superbowl party that left a cell phone when they went home. We called and it turned out it was an old one that they let their 3 & 5 year olds play with.

I totally missed that when he testified, I heard him explain the bedroom to the prosecution but I guess I didn't hear the cross exam. This really urks me, why would a detective sit on ANYONE's bed? This sucks!

Concerning the blackberry phone:

1. Prior to the data being erased did anyone from LE attempt to unlock the phone?
2. Was the blackberry seized by the police on 7/12 (Saturday) or at some later time?
3. If at some later time did LE successfully view data on blackberry before the data was erased?
4. Assuming there must be 10 consecutive failed login attempts what happens if I intentionally fail 9 times and then a week later I enter the wrong password, would this be considered the 10th failure? Or would this be considered 1 failure?

I find it hard to believe that any professional would continue to enter the wrong pw 10 consecutive times. Perhaps someone knows if the LE actually attempted to enter the wrong pw 10 times? Or is this an assumption being made since the data was erased?

It's just what the defense said during opening statements. No evidence presented yet of any of this. But if they are to be believed, it was 20 failed pw attempts in 2 separate batches of 10 (ie, he did it a second time after wiping it out the first time).

I can see their point. Covers rolled down, bottom sheet has an indication of someone sitting on the edge, but that is it. Pillow has no indention for a head.

Forgot to include that Daniels sitting on the bed (which was seen by BC and a couple others at the time) was not noted in the report and Kurtz made a big to-do about that because the bed is evidence and it thus looks different because of Daniels sitting on it and it should have been documented that Daniels sat on the edge.

Now...see the 2 white laundry baskets stacked on top of each other on the left?

Look on the left side of the baskets, where they are closest to the wall/door.

The green dress Nancy was wearing at the party is sort of hanging out of the bottom basket. Hard to see as it's sitting behind that blue thing.

You can see that the bedcovers are rolled down. CPD does not call this disheveled (because the covers are rolled).

That's considered rolled? Thats what my bed looks like when I get out of it (covers pushed to the bottom).

Surface abrasions would have easily healed by then.

Sorry, I guess I did miss your point. But at least those pictures at 5 days show that any scratches/abrasions couldn't have been very severe in the first place. That and no dna found under her nails (from what I remember reading).

Hearing that BC always took off his shoes before entering the house I assumed that the interior would have been much cleaner than what is seen in the photos. Perhaps Canadians are only concerned about how the carpet looks?

I don't know how anyone could tell if a bed had been slept in. Obviously it had been slept in Thursday night. What I will say is that the covers rolled back like they are look staged, as if someone standing up pulled them back that way. If a person got out of bed it should have been folded over towards the other side, not the bottom of the bed. Even if she had kicked covers off because she got hot, they would not be rolled over like they are.

Does the bed looked slept in to you? I think it does because of how the pillows are arranged. It looks to me like she sleeps on the left hand side of the bed and has the extra pillows aligned on the right side. Of course, that doesn't mean she slept in it that night...she might not ever make the bed. Also, the sheets/covers don't looked rolled from that view.

Knowing how defense attorneys are and how evidence can be challenged in court, I was surprised that the CPD weren't more careful on some things. I mean, they left themselves open and it didn't have to be that way.

They could have/should have made a point to follow up quickly on witnesses who think they saw NC running (even if they knew the witnesses were wrong), doing in person interviews.

They should have dotted every i and crossed every t, making sure nothing was left out of any report.

That Blackberry fiasco was just stupid. I'm sure nothing important was on it that had anything to do with NC's murder, but it allows the defense a huge area to concentrate on. Why give them any ammunition if you don't have to?

It's these kinds of errors that provide fuel to the defense, and in a homicide case it's even more vital that every little thing be done correctly and documented correctly and everyone followed up in a timely manner.

Most of the times I think clearer than I type, sorry, and that leads to confusion.

Here is what I am thinking and wondering if it is possible with blackberry. Let's say that today I enter the wrong password 9 times and make no further attempts to unlock the phone. A week from today I give the phone to you and on your initial attempt to unlock the phone you enter the wrong password. In blackberry world is this considered 10 consecutive failures or due to the time lapse it is considered 1 failure?

If he was standing behind her, she would be at a disadvantage to get much leverage to scratch. I could see her reaching back and getting some scratches on the back of his neck. I would expect more damage if she were facing him.

Non-existant DNA might be true. If so, I could be wrong.

I was not too crazy about her writing style in Deadly Dose, and reading the Amazon reviews, I am not alone in that, but the other book on the Stephanie Bennett case is getting better reviews... anybody read that? Thoughts?

Yeah, I read Evil Next Door (I think it was called), -- I am an English major, by the way & have done some itty bitty writing, and been to workshops....

... and this book was quite an improvement in style and delivery than Dose. I must say that Deadly Dose was not as good (IMO -- since I know so much

).

I do recommend Evil to folks in this area since it took place here. Drew Planten did some horrible things to that young woman, and the book tells a good detective tale. I live near the building where Planten worked & was arrested, and I still think about him every time I go by it. Every time.

If she slept on the side with only one pillow that makes it look even more like someone staged it. The covers look as if someone moved them from the side of the bed with two pillows.

Here's the MBR bathroom, showing the 2 spray bottles (one Lysol, the other Clorox without bleach) on the counter, along with NC's personal care items.

Office Hays noticed the 2 spray bottles and thought it looked suspicious.

(Although...my bathroom is a bit cluttered right now and I know for a fact I have 2 spray bottles of cleaners sitting out, so it wouldn't occur to me to be suspicious of that).
