I'm very surprised (given BC's techie background and liberal use of web tools) that he didn't utilize online banking to set up payments for monthly bills. I've been using online banking since the 90's. It's easy peasy, convenient, and you don't get caught making late payments.

He could have used online bank paying. We use BoA and still have to approve each bill that goes out (if my husband forgets to do it, and we've had that happen, it doesn't get paid on time). Maybe there are other options to auto-pay, but if you are on a tight budget, like they were, he may have wanted to ensure the funds were in the account before the money was transferred.

How many little things that day don't make sense??????
Yep, all those little things = a PILE of evidence Brad did it.

Although there are tons of little things pointing to Brad, I've not been impressed with the prosecution's ability to establish hard evidence that really links him to the murder. I'm assuming they are spending this time telling the "story" and setting the stage for more substantial evidence. At least I hope that's what they are doing. Has either side estimated how long the trial might last?

But you're right - many, many things from that day don't make sense.

IMO

There must be a lot of people caught in that situation. I'm surprised that there aren't some sort of compassionate procedures for getting a green card to at least keep children with both parents. It sounds like Brad and the children could legally remain in NC, but that Nancy had to leave - but how could she leave preschoolers behind.

Compassion with the govt? You're kidding, right?

You hear stories everyday about the "illegal" parents who are deported and their kids remain here with relatives or friends. Yeah, NC was in quite the predicament with BC and he knew it. Not to say the break up of the marriage was 100% his fault, but she was definitely holding a losing hand in this situation. And, he didn't want the kids to stay there without her (from my understanding), so she wasn't going w/out the kids.

"And I still think he had already dumped his socks and stuff in the washer with Nancy's things between trips to the store - and he noticed he needed more laundry soap. So he slipped on his thongs (Rainbows?) and went back to HT. "
(quoting myself from October 8, '08)

And I still think he had tossed his clothing, which he had worn while cleaning and dumping, into the washer, and then realized he was out of detergent. Put on different clothing. Easier to slip on the flips. Back to the store. He HAD to get that laundry done. His clothes, Nancy's dress, cleaning cloths.

The clothes hanging all over the railings gave me the impression that he was in a big hurry to do laundry. In my house, the dryer takes a lot longer than the washer. If theirs was the same. He did load #1 and put it in the dryer. He put load #2 in the washer. When it finished load #1 was still drying so he hung up load #2 so he could start load #3. That's not any kind of evidence but just an observation and impression.

I thought he had initiated the process to help her get a Green Card which would allow her to stay after the divorce. In addition his offer to pay her "Nanny Wages" could be an attempt to help her establish legal working status to remain in the US while her Green Card was being processed.

First post--please be easy on me... ;o)

I am finding the discussion from people (and hubbies) with technical know-how regarding the ways the calls might be placed (Asterisk, for example), very interesting. If a conviction is in the cards, it is imperative the prosecution actually make some real, concerete headway on issues such as this.

In a recent post, Albert recently mentioned the deposition video, Brad being in bed with the girls, and the reference to the hall light (according to Brad, this is how he saw the silhouette of Nancy when she returned from the party). It is also interesting to review Brad's statement specific to falling to sleep on the evening of the 11th. In his deposition, Brad states he fell asleep with the girls shortly after 9 p.m. and did not awaken until Nancy came home at 12:25 or 12:30 a.m. However, a subpoena states he accessed his email (to read Nancy's email) at 10:13PM. The contents of the email(s) will be very interesting. I haven't run across any info on the specifics. Ideas?

There are a lot of *odd* things in this case. I know it is still early days, but we had the ME on Friday, and, honestly, he didn't provide any "Brad did it" smoking gun. Ultimately, I have no idea what it all means, but (IMHO, of course), this case has become one big, slippery fish for the prosecution. They need to find a way to set the hook quickly, or this fish is in serious danger of entering "the one that got away" and "it was THIS big" fish tale territory.

One oddity is Brad saying he saw Nancy's silhouette at all. Had the hall light been on, or any light for that matter that would backlight Nancy, it would have been seen from the Duncan's house. Take a good look at the front of that house - there is a large window over the staircase as it goes up to the second floor. Just a small note.

IF what he said was true, I'm assuming Nancy turned on a light herself to see her way through the house.

Depends if you have a HE washer. If so, the spin cycle is pretty efficient and thus the clothes dry a lot faster. With my HE, the clothes dry in at least half the time.

Saying he saw Nancy's silhoulette is kinda creepy.
How could he see her if he was in bed???

I thought that was something he had worked on previously and either Cisco didn't follow thru with it, or for some reason the processed stalled. I didn't think it was a current option, but he had said he was going to work on it again. These immigration processes can take months/years to get going. It wouldn't really help NC if she wanted to separate now.

Nancy may have had better success with the custody situation if she had remained in Canada at the time of her last visit and started proceedings from Ottawa. She would have given up all the material possessions, but at least she would be safe with her children. It would have become an international custody battle, but I doubt the children would have been forced to return to NC without their primary caregiver (Nancy).

He claimed he feel asleep in the girls room between them. Guess he must have done that twice though since he was up after 10 am reading email...

It is possible of course that Nancy turned on a light herself though.

The whole story he gives is just weird. Why certain details? Obviously there is some truth to his details, but when he is recalling it, why give some of these like this and then outright lie about others (i.e. being in bed at 9 when computer records show he was reading emails at 10:30).

I thought it was weird that he was sleeping in the room with the girls instead of his own room.

I was thinking about that. I know we've only heard her side of the issue but I imagine it being something like this:

Nancy left on Saturday, June 28 for a vacation with her family. Since nothing was mentioned I would assume that she got her $300 allowance on Friday the 27th. So she is on vacation from the 28th until Sunday, July 6th. When Friday rolls around Brad might have told her that he wasn't giving her the money since he had given her the money for the previous week but since she was on vacation, she didn't use it for the family home. In this scenario she would mention needing that money for her vacation to which he would say she had her own money for vacation from the painting job.

Based on the timing of everything, that makes the most sense to me. Under the circumstances with the separation/divorce hanging over his head, I just can't believe he would suddenly deny her money for household needs.

Something has always bothered me about this. Wasn't Brad's name on the receipt for the paint?

I cannot figure out why Nancy would have him pay for it. I'll have to go listen to JA's testimony again. I don't know why JA wouldn't have just paid for the paint herself and paid Nancy under the table.

JA talked about a conflict when Brad came over there on Tuesday night and that he made a snarky comment about how little she'd gotten done.

I guess I missed something!

Some people hang their jeans (that's what was hanging on the railing) because they shrink in the dryer.

That's exactly what I thought immediately upon seeing the picture of what appeared to be his jeans hanging on the banister/stairway. Proves nothing from a judicial standpoint but it's the way some of us do things when time is of the essence.

Good point. I wonder if it would have been illegal though if BC didn't consent to it (obviously, in hindsight, illegal would have meant alive though). Maybe that would have hurt her in the divorce proceedings.

I have always thought this - the girls were 2 and 4? Now, I know in the past, sometimes I would accidentally fall asleep in my kids room - maybe trying to get them to settle down after a book/story and then fell asleep myself from exhaustion of the day. Maybe that was it? I don't buy it though for one minute. I don't think he went to sleep that early.
