I have a work IP phone in my remote office in another city.
Yes, it rings my cell after 3 rings go unanswered.
You can program all kinds of different forwarding scenarios.

I am looking forward to the VOIP expert.
I'm thinking that and the computer forensics will be the nails in Brad's coffin.

Or the slam-bang of his lifer cell door.

This SW affidavit was 2 years after his arrest.
Don't you think they had every detail of this VOIP stuff figured out by then?
I do.

The fact that nobody mentioned that the "Verizon flash drive" was more likely an EVDO modem leads me to believe that no they actually have not figured out every detail of his voip stuff. I hope they have, I hope the FBI found something. But I'm not convinced at this point that they have it actually figured out.

If there was a possible legit call from the home that AM, I can't see how they could pull the trigger (at least so soon). If the proof of this is soft, but possible, betcha they have the slam dunk evidence on the computers.

Okay, I'm making a prediction. There will be no records from TWC produced from either side. And we will be left to debate forever if he spoofed the call. And I'm going to be pissed about it. This is honestly what I've been waiting for in this whole trial (especially given my line of work).

My guess is we *will* see a call on the TWC records confirming a call at that time to the cell #, but then they will have to bring on experts to explain how it is possible to do that if no one was actually there making that call. It won't be proven though so we will be left wondering whether or not he did it.

If there wasn't a record of that call, that would be proof that the call was not made from the land line directly and the defense would have a whole lot more to worry about.

So that is my prediction.

Lol no, former roommate. You can search my name to find my prior comments when the story first broke in 2008.

I remember you posting and how valuable your comments were to us. OMG, you actually lived with the man. Was he a slob then, too?!

Pretty sure it is the home phone number that would show.

I agree --

With our similar phone system where I worked (as I mentioned earlier), before the person who was called heard the msg, the system would say either the caller's name (from the phone's info files), or the number if the name were not on record. Ours was fairly sophisticated, but probably no match for what CISCO would have...

ETA: A password was required to do any of this, of course.

There are so many little technical things that lead me to believe he did it but none of them being mentioned scared me. Like the HP Workstation that had nothing plugged into it. Around here the only time a machine has nothing plugged into it is when somebody is taking something out or putting something in. Did he remove an FXO/FXS line card and dump it before LE could find it?

The external hard drive attached to the macbook could have been running the asterisk server and then been wiped and reloaded with crap/mainstream data.

Did he use his macbook remotely any time during the morning of July 12?

And where is SleuthyGirl? My "what ifs" go in both directions. :-)

Where is the FBI forensics expert when I need him to answer my personal technical questions :-)

I'm wondering where SG is, too!

It could have been one of those promotional items given out a trade shows and at industry functions. Cisco & Verizon work very closely together. Flash drives are cheap when purchased in bulk. I wouldn't automatically assume it's an EVDO modem.

Hi Everyone;
It's been awhile since I posted on here. Thanks to all of you who kept the media links current for the past 2+ years.
Did I hear correctly this morning during Det. Y's testimony - that as soon as Brad returned home the first time from HT, Nancy told him they were out of detergent. Am I remembering correctly that being out of detergent was the reason Nancy made the call to his cell phone?
As to the color of the dress - Maybe DD didn't know they were looking for the dress Nancy had on at the party. Maybe she thought they were just looking for Nancy's black dress.

Welcome back to us, C-A! :seeya:

He said the missed call was from home to find the cell....
That number he called was to Cisco, not his cell VM

Hmmmm, his cell, his cell.....:behindbar

Present!

I've had a massive headache/sinus headache for most of the day and took cold&flu tabs and slept for awhile.

I'm like Brad in that the minute I get a new tech item I have to learn everything about it. It's like an obsession. I actually read the manuals too!

I fully believe he knew how to pull up a call log on his cell phone without anyone showing him anything. How ironic would it be if VOIP data and computer data is what was his undoing and landed him with a life sentence?!

There were 2 calls from home to cell. One at 6:34 to locate cell, one at 6:40 supposedly from Nancy.

When I was a senior at State (95 obviously), my senior project in electrical engineering was dealing with cellular towers. The guys we worked with on the project helped law enforcement catch him. I don't remember the details, but it was pretty cool using triangulation.

All I know about it comes from the book "Takedown". I thought the author, who helped localize him to North Carolina and participated in the local search was pretty self-serving in his descriptions of the chase. Readers Digest version would be: ME and several clowns and assorted numbskulls caught him. They were able to find his location down to a small area using cell site triangulation, but had to call the FBI with a Triggerfish signal sniffer to find the exact location in the Player's club appartments off Duraleigh road.

Interesting book, if you get past the author's ego trip.

Hi Calgary123! Glad you are here again!

I thought I was involved before. Now I'm actually making notes.

Curious... On Brad's first trip to HT he doesn't have his cell, right, because he had to call it when he got home to find it? Has anyone scrutinized the HT video to see if he was holding his cell or if it was clipped on to him anywhere?

  • #478
The state has video footage of him leaving the hotel and none of him returning (along with the keycard issue). That's not as difficult a leap as saying someone had the potential to spoof a call without showing proof that he did. Especially since it essentially answers the question of guilt or innocence.
Sorry, there is no proof Jason Young did not re-enter the hotel / room Friday AM .
Yes, this comes from a guy (me) that knows he is 100% guilty.

Sorry to hear you were under the weather but glad you got some sleep and didn't really miss much.

I agree I am a techno gadget junky. Not knowing how to find the call log is pretty lame. Voicemail is more tricky you have to know to call using the speed dial but the call log is right there in the apps screen.

Those blackjacks are craptacular phones but the call log, not hard to find.

No definitely not a slob. Not Mr. Clean either. I also wouldn't claim to be a paragon of cleanliness in my mid 20's. We had a lot of crappy furniture and not much to take care of. I had quite a few friends dropping by at the time, creating noise and mess, which bothered him. In my case it was always long time friends. Brad would never have friends over and he didn't appear to have any actual "friends". But every once in a while he would have a large group over, either from work for a pre-work party before they go out, or to do with the Calgary Stampede (look it up, lots of fun), and there would be carnage. But in the whole time I never really knew him to have even one male "friend". EDIT: IE the names he lists as friends in his deposition video. Naming those as his best friends was just strange... they had very little personal connection with Brad.

He was a nice guy though. A very complex guy, he could become withdrawn too, and sort of passive/aggressive, and somewhat brooding. He internalized his negative emotions, and would not display them. Ultimately we didn't get along though, on a very fundamental level.

I remember certain things got him very talkative. First, anything technical, he was proud of his knowledge. He also liked lots of girls, and would always talk about who he met, and show photos on his digital camera. He was big on his career too, and was a hard worker. He would show me photos of the telephone rooms he worked on in his job and how complicated all the CAT cable was that he figured out how to route properly.

It wasn't easy for me to come to the belief that he did it.

As for the trial, given the state of the house, the garage, and the backyard to me shows that this family unit was not working, that neither he or Nancy took pride in building a household together. This is not a revelation and I think anyone could determine that from looking at the photos.

Edit: And while I say I'm certain he did it, there is part of me that changes my mind every once in a while. Were I to find out that it was actually a random killer stealing shoes and shorts but not diamond earrings, I'd be happy that Brad didn't do it. He must be going through hell. And while I'm not Nancy fan given what I've learned, she of course deserved to live and deserves that her killer be punished.
