I do have to disagree there..why in the heck would an upopened drop cloth be placed in a bag of garbage or trash..Wouldnt it be put somewhere to be used for some sort of job?...No..its just the wrapper of the cloth thrown ontop of the scrunched up plastic drop cloth..ready for disposal..obviously didnt get disposed of tho..

Brad may be intelligent..but organized in household , everyday functioning he is definately NOT!! IMOO

We keep our plastic bags and reuse them, so I didn't see that as a bag of trash.

As for the color of the drop cloth, I looked on the Lowes website and all plastic drop cloths, 9' by 12' according to the testimony of Det. Young, and in the $4-5 price range appear to be clear, not tan in color. The ones that are tan in color are smaller and canvas drop cloths.

I'm sure it'll be addressed at some point with the detective (or at least I hope!).

Actually, he paid in cash, so the only way they knew about this was from the receipt. So if he bought it to use as part of the murder, I don't think he would have kept the receipt.

:floorlaugh:Like everything else that is paper..he filed it..on the floor of his car.. As this item he purchased was not bagged in the store..but carried out in his hand with the receipt..Wouldnt you think this receipt for a job his wife was doing for someone else be important for collecting expenses??..Ohh wait..He wasnt worried about getting repaid for expenses :great:

I agree with the drop cloth NOT being suspicious ON ITS OWN - as they were doing painting on Wallsburg Court in order to get the house ready for sale. It would make sense to buy some supplies.

HOWEVER....

I do find it suspicious that the running late on Friday was attributed to spending time with or helping Nancy and the kids and not the Lowes trip. And driving to Lowes, buying something, then on to work took TIME.

Being evasive about the trip, making himself look like doting husband and not saying what really took the time is an unnecessary diversion / untruth. If he did it FOR HER - i.e. "I picked up a drop cloth so Nancy could continue painting our house to ready it for sale" - I would buy that. however, I believe at that time he was telling police they were in the process of reconciling?

Evasive. And usually when folks lie or evade telling the truth about SIMPLE things, there's bigger things hiding behind them.

And the other thing - if you always tell the truth - it's easy to remember. Much conflicting data - as one lie almost always leads to another and that is what trips people up - they simply can't remember the complexity of the ruse they have created.

Yes,,,,no matter what you think about the drop cloth, he decided to lie
Wonder why he would lie about such an innocent little thing?

I don't think that was ever in question.
The jury saw it was still in the original packaging.

LyndyLoo was stating that it was opened and crumpled up into the HD bag. I was agreeing with ncsu95 that it appeared to be unopened.

No I said the writing on the bag was blue..not the drop cloth..and yes I would agree with you about retaining bags for reuse..but Brad does not strike me as a "Recycling" sort!! JMOO

Bet Brad is pizzed he produced the necklace from the house and left the earrings in her ears. If he disposed of both, it might have been more believable she was abducted by Kurt's van of Hispanics. All these little things that just don't add up....how many now?

What izzit they say about details and the devil???:waitasec:

Many juries have been convinced to convict because of not just one thing but a pile of little things. I think it's called circumcised -- oops, I think I mean circumstantial -- yeah, that's the one...

  • #587
Yeah..didnt we hear a description of her hair being all discheveled..and someone having their hand caught up in her hair, turning her head noting that earring in her right ear??..I remember that testimoy :maddening:
Yes, young Young said that Kevin Gerity came up with it during the ME session when he was examining the back of her head for injuries.

BBM..You see that is where I have to disagree..I think it was used..and that packaging was just lying ontop of the scrunched up plastic drop sheet..Thats they way I saw it in the video of that bulging Home Depot bag that contained only those items..

The sheet as I saw in the Lowe's video was contained in a small, flat package that had blue writing on it..and I have purchased such an item..and once removed from that package you cant fold it to get back inside that packaging.. It's a shame Brad wasnt a clean freak..and didnt seem to know how to dispose of things..so there it was in the garage for it to get documented...

BTW..I think that drop sheet was put on the floor or whatever area he used to transport Nancy..to protect whatevers....why he didnt discard it...we'll never know??

If it was used, are we going to see it was tested? Did note it was in a Home Depot bag yet purchased at Lowes...or am I mistaken?

OK, I misunderstood. I thought you were saying that the tan plastic stuff that is crumpled beneath the drop cloth is the drop cloth itself. I'm seeing an clear plastic dropcloth, folded up in it's original packaging, on top of tan plastic grocery type bags.

He bought at Lowes and left w/o a bag.
It was seen laying in a HD bag, within a 5 gallon bucket

A previous post says he walked out with it unbagged, in his hand.

How would you like to have Gerity's job?
He is officially known as the "morgue manager" in Chapel Hill.
At least the Doc's get decent pay.

The drop cloth is either another "and we found nothing" (other than he lied/was mistaken about why he was late for work) or it is HUGE! If he bought a duplicate drop cloth from Home Depot they should be able to take it to Lowe's/Home Depot and scan the barcode to find out which store inventory it matches. At least I think that's how the barcodes work. (I'm definitely not an expert in the field.

Bottom line is that he lied about going to Lowes that morning...To me it shows a guilty conscience. Not sure why he bought that drop cloth yet. I think we all need to remember that the evidence is still in the foundation and getting introduced phase in this trial. We know he went there now and didn't tell the cops but rather blamed Nancy's inept skills as his reason for being late. Such a helper that Brad.

I wish I had a transcript of Kurtz's opening.
I want to check some things, but can't bring myself to hearing that voice again. :noooo:

He looked like he was in a hurry? The prosecution pointed out that one single thing of him turning his shoulders to get through the doors. You notice they never pointed out him "being in a hurry" in ANY of the other videos in either trip. You know, sometimes those automatic doors are slow to react. Maybe he just didn't want to stop walking to wait for it. But he looked completely relaxed in all of the HT videos.

He was in the store for only 3 minutes on both trips. The second trip required picking up two different items in different sections of the store. The time alone without seeing him says that he was not taking his time. I would say that he was in a hurry. I'm sure we can discuss the remainder of the night WHY he was in a hurry. MOO

How would you like to have Gerity's job?

Given how squeamish I am I would be in a dead faint just about every day and would probably use up all my sick days within the first 2-3 weeks. I see anything dead, even a squirrel or bird or mouse, even 20 ft away I'm freaking out. :-O

How much are you willing to pay? (Just kidding! I can't do it either. I wish we had an index like Skittles did for the deposition. )

LOLOLLLL! You need to have someone who can stand his voice (dare I say someone might even like that voice?) transcribe the parts you want to review again.

ETA: Paging Mrs. Kurtz. Mrs. Kurtz to the white courtesy phone. And bring your keyboard and mad typing skillz.
