I may not be RZ's age but my memory wouldn't have been faded if I was Positive it was her that day and when finally interviewed on 7/22.

She wasn't interviewed on the 22nd, that was the first witness you are thinking of.

can we please just leave RZ alone now? She wasn't helpful, but she sure as eager. I think we should leave this lady be.

Thank you for correcting me. I got them mixed up.

From the description of what the cops were looking at on the golf course, it sounds like the tip they got was that Nancy's body was in some kind of water drainage area or ditch, because they were focusing on specific locations in which water and drainage and the pipeline sources were the common features.

And of course Nancy's body was indeed right near a drainage ditch, just not near a golf course.

Right, but the psychic said it was within sight of a green flag too.

Thinking about what the jurors are taking home on this long weekend, compared with last weekend. The cross of Det. DD with his admission that there was no evidense that the call was spoofed and was yet another nibbling away at the prosecution's case. That case probably peaked with the Google Maps search, the smoking gun, itself undermined by the FBI refusing to discuss their methods.

Now comes JW, appearing open to a fault, readily admitting to areas where he lacked expertise, but out front. Hard to miss that every time he got close to the critical FBI finding (the Google search) or to the actual contents of BC's laptop, the prosecutors start having fits. Something important they do not want the jury to see, clearly involving tampering with BC's computer and the FBI conclusions. Then no cross of JW. Hard to follow everything said by JW, but it was very important to each side.

Then somewhat less intense testimony -- babysitters, teachers, friends who known the Coopers over 5+ years -- with one bombshell that NC had an affair soon after marrying BC and with someone "politically connected". Week ending with people who might have seen NC on the morning she disappeared, people frustrated by CPD appearing uninterested in what they might have known. The cross exams seemed mostly about trying to trip up the witnesses and to protect the CPD and its investigation.

My guess is that the jurors connected a lot more with and trusted this week's witnesses much more than any of NC's friends early in the trial.

Good summary, thanks. I hope defense is able to connect the dots for the jury on the indications of computer tampering. I don't think many people caught them, not even the media but they were definitely there.

I also thought it was pretty powerful hearing that NC used her friend for alibis so often that she ended the friendship. It makes one wonder if she was still doing that.

6:40AM phone call from NC to BC (allegedly), BC returns, pours milk, get's more laundry started, is upstairs on laptop with little lady and hears NC leave to run @ 7? Then NC is 2 miles away within 10 mins looking like she just started her run? Amazing.

Google Maps (!!!!!) shows the distance as 0.7 miles, mostly straight down Lochmere. About another 1.1 or 1.2 to where the FL butcher reported the jogger. Somewhere between 3 and 5 miles from there to Fielding, depending on routes.

Not so amazing.

The witnesses might have been mistaken, but the timeline is at least plausible.

So what do we know about the next witness? I can't remember his name now but it was mentioned in court today. I know he's supposed to at least talk about the cell phone (s). I wonder if he will go into the computer stuff too. Any thoughts?

One last point on the RZ testimony, I know he gets a hard time here, but Cummings deserves some credit for going easy on cross. He was effective in getting the point across and yet at the same time it felt like he was just chatting with her, as if both of them were on a porch talking about things. It's not easy to cross examine that type of witness. Go too hard and you lose the jury (unsympathetic) or go too soft and you don't get the point across.

I think at least part of the blame for the lack of investigation of other possible leads lies squarely on the shoulders of Chief B.. Had she not made the statement she made at the news conference on July 16th it would have been easier for Detectives to actually follow up with eyewitnesses.

Chief Bazemore said there are no suspects or persons of interest at this time. "We have absolutely no reason to believe this was anything more than an isolated incident," she said. "We do not believe this was a random act of violence."

That statement pretty much takes eyewitness reports off the table.

Ben Levitan. He most certainly will qualify as an expert witness and, if he testifies as I suspect, he is pretty much going to sink Young. Google expert/representative will be the Defense final witness.

Not unless Nancy ran 4 or 5 min miles. The latest the F.L. guy pegged her was 7:10am. She was a good runner, but wasn't that fast!

That to me was their biggest screwup in the investigation (the phone wipe is a close second). Even if they internally believed it wasn't random, you shouldn't announce that to the media unless you are going to name a suspect soon. I think the fact that it was 'Cary' played a part in it.

I found it interesting that Cummings got Mrs. Z to talk about how *really hot* it is at 7 in the morning - "In July 90 at 7 in the morning". Hmmm, maybe too hot for a zip up, long sleeve, jacket, long jeans. Nice way that got slid in there.

Levitan will absolutely sink Young, which is why the prosecution is trying to hard to keep his "conclusions" out of testimony. That was the sticking point this morning.

The other guy is who I believe johnfear was referring to as the defense "key" witness.

I missed this morning, can you give me a recap on the Levitan stuff...might not have time to watch.

Saw that about a month ago for the first time. Good movie. I've never served on a jury, but is a situation like that (one ng turns into 12) common?

Many people who don't believe in psychics would think that the murderer called in the tip, especially since the body was found in a drainage ditch.

hey I have an honest question. is it well known and sure that brad or someone didn't wipe the phone before the police got it? or is there some reason why everyone says the CPD did it? honest question, just wondering. thanks :)

I missed this morning, can you give me a recap on the Levitan stuff...might not have time to watch.

Judge yesterday had asked pros and defense to come to an agreement re: his testimony so he wouldn't have to sort through it himself.

This morning the sides announced they had not reached an agreement, and Kurtz indicated that while the pros was willing to allow certain testimony from Levitan, they were adamant about keeping his conclusions out.

Kurtz protested that the whole purpose of the testimony was to get to the conclusions...and in fact stated to the judge that Levitan would (among other things) show premeditation required to erase. Judge will now have to take it up and decide.
