State wants answers from Baez

I'm surprised Baez is actually trying to get away with this one and must surely know he faces the wrath of HHJP, but in retrospect, HHJP has threatened much, but in reality has only to date anyway, come up with a few stern words and a measely fine of less than $600.00.

To me it's actually quite obvious what he is trying to do. Stall, stall, stall and he's running off to the conference in a Hail Mary attempt to resuscitate the results of his experts so he can actually have something to object to in the Frye hearings.

For some reason Baez believes he has found a tiny speck of (fool's) gold that will convince these experts to see the evidence his way if he can only get together with several of them in person and get them to actually focus on whatever the heck this idea is.

Okay Mr. Baez, apparently you are a risk taker, but I'm not sure you've done the appropriate weighing and balancing of possible results before taking this (foolhardy) leap.

I'm at a complete loss for words...no really, I am.

After HHJB's sanctions (which was, lets face it, a mild rebuke considering his lack of compliance) I'm shocked that he would fail to meet another deadline with so little regard for the consequence.

Either he is doing this with a purpose (unknown) or he is getting some really bad advice from his lackluster co-council. Whatever is happening JB is flushing his budding career choice down the toilet one failed deadline after another.

HHJP can't ignore this anymore and I think he will be implementing that $500 (per day? ) fine until the deadlines are met and I don't think the Baez law firm is in a position to pay penalties in this manner. CM should realize that his name on the list of Casey's Lawyers opens him up to reprimand too.

I understand this is the Chicago seminar week. Didn't JB file some type of notice that said that nothing could be done while he is away from his office, everything needed to stop until he got back? I remember laughing about it then and now I'm enjoying it again.
With this new motion by SA, will JB come back screaming how unfair it was to file it while he was gone and that "no one listens to him any more"?

I think that just effects availability for scheduling heaarings, not for filings.

Looking at it a little deeper it is really really easy to see what the state is doing here, and exactly what the game is that JB is playing. JB doesn't have the scientific backing he needs either for the Frye hearing or for trial. That was obvious in the states motion to strike his Frye motion. So he is at the forensic conference attempting to drum up some sort of scientific defense. The problem is his deadline for actually having said defense was last Thursday. So his plan is to stall. The state sees right through this and is not going to let him get away with it. They are rather loudly calling him out on it.

I think Baez IS doing this on purpose. He can't withdraw from the case. This case is costing him lots of time and money. He knows he is not going to win. He want the judge to kick him out. It's blatantly obvious at this point. NO one can be this incompetent. :waitasec:

I think him and CM both want the judge to give them the boot. Nothing else explains their actions, collectively. If it were just JB.....then ignorance and lack of IQ and knowledge might take the day; but with CM allowing this circus to go on I think they want to be twarted out the door.

If a Judges order is law and ignorance of the law is no excuse then JB has to be found in contempt.
BP would be doing a disservice to all the aspiring young hispanic lawyers out there if he didn`t IMO. A DP case is not the place to put affirmative action ahead of the convicts right to a proper defense. If KC knew what was in her best interests she wouldn`t be where she is today. Criminal Defense Attorneys exist to deal with the worlds KC`s. Ideally they`d be good at their jobs. JB has all the same personality traits of the woman he`s defending however. In about 6 months he`ll be hiring his own Criminal Defense Attorney to deal with the aftermath of his gross incompetence and do any of us expect that even he`ll understand what`s in his own best interest then? He doesn`t know how to use a phone, or apparently how to read.
He know`s how to dress the part nothing more and that`s all KC`s looking for in a lawyer IMHO. Well that and the fact he makes moon eyes at her and swallows all her koolaid. ITA she should be asked yet again if she`s happy with her counsel but not because I care about KC. I only care about preserving the case record so that on May 13 when she tries to fire her counsel to delay the start of trial, it`s denied.

If the Florida Bar exists to protect Lawyers first and the public second then they might want to ponder what this one member of their Bar is doing to tarnish the public perception of them all.
It would be akin to me sitting in the park watching another RN attempt to slap a screaming child and deciding I didn`t need to stop it because I was on holiday or because I needed to protect my colleagues professional reputation first.

I`m writing the Florida Bar myself. This is a disgusting display.

I think that Mr Baez is gambling here. So far, HHJP has extended deadlines for the defense and the fine for non compliance was small. Mr Baez feels he will accomplish some desired goal by meeting with these experts. Therefore to Mr Baez, it is worth the risk of being fined a small sum.

He can claim in front of the cameras that the order was not clear or was not understood, plausable deniability. The punishment for being late and confused will be light. At the end of it all, Mr Baez will have accomplish what he wanted...more time to plead with the experts.

Yes, something along those lines..but I believe it had to do more with not scheduling any Hearings while he was away..
Baez didn't take into consideration that the Prosecutors DO NOT work for HIM neither does the Judge...it's still business as usual for them.
And, even with Baez away, he is only 1 member of Casey's Defense Team, she still has Mason(more experienced and DP qualified), Finnell(more experienced and DP qualified), and who else..Medina, Sims...and so on.

This is my first time posting. I love this sight and I think all of you are awesome. Your all very sharp and it is very obvious to me (after lurking forever) that Caylee is going to recieve her justice! It's taking time and it's very hard to be patient. Not too much longer and this will be at trial. Finally. In the meantime....it is getting very painful to watch Baez and counsel pull thier stupid crap. I'm not a lawyer. I've followed and read since the beginning. What are HJP's options of dealing with this nightmare team? In reality, if he does anything less than find both of them in contempt, he will lose all credibility. Is he going to bring the hammer down like he needs to? Or will we witness yet another slap on the hands? The DT needs to be punished for blatant behavior.

We all know that the forensic stuff is WAY over JB's head. That was why they had LKB. Now that she is gone, why isn't the lawyer replacing LKB answering the judge's order (Dorothy Clay Sims...thanks Nums for the recall on the name)?

Is there a communication problem with her, JB, and CM? She knew when signing on to this team that she would have to file some motions for a FRYE hearing. Why is JB doing it? It is no surprise that he dropped the ball as the lead attorny, but no surprise that he is ignorant (in the technical sense of the word) when it comes to forensic matters with little experience other than breathalyzer results!

Nope. That was regarding the defense experts reports and ties directly back into this latest missed deadline. So it is doubtful that HHJP will look kindly on this.

I don't think that picture is him in Chicago, at least not now..it is currently 26F/-3C and I think it's snowing in Chicago... he is being photographed outdoors and someone in the background in in a sleeveless top.
I believe it is an earlier picture of him here in Orlando
The Caption below the picture reads

It was probably taken when Dr Lee or other experts came to Orlando to review evidence..
