Subway Responds to "Footlong Scandal"

  • #21
Uh oh... What's gonna happen when people realize those "Monster" drinks really aren't monsters and there aren't any real bees in "Honeycomb" cereals? Or that "Hawaiian" Punch and bread aren't really from Hawaii?

Or.... it pains me to say this... that chickens don't really have "fingers?" :gasp: There's a whole slew of fast food joints goin' down with THAT misrepresentation!!!! :floor laugh:

I don't see the big deal. This is not a false claim (such as the inner workings of an espresso machine) that the consumer can't verify. Everyone who shops at Subway can see the "footlong" sandwich before they buy it; if it isn't big enough for you (you have an eating disorder, but never mind that now), you can go elsewhere.

Secondly, the word "footlong" can mean 12", but it can also mean "the length of a human foot"; in the latter case, the average is less than 11". (The 6" claim is more problematic because it is numerical.)

I'm all for mandated warnings re things the consumer can't gage (such as calories), but we can all see the size of the damn sandwich. If you want it bigger, ask for more toppings. Most Subway shops will be happy to oblige.

Totally agree. Those things are long. I have them cut it into three sections and it takes me at least 3 days to eat it. They usually have several you can get for $5 around here and the tuna is my favorite.

Subway responds to short sandwich scandal by claiming that FOOTLONG is a trademark and'descriptive name' not a 'measurement of length'

Subway promises sandwiches which ARE a foot long after investigation revealed products came up short

so, which is it subway? "footlong" is a description? or is it a measurement? :waitasec:

i love subway and frequented the stores in ON for their $5 subs (2-4x week).. but here in BC subs are not $5, and it p*sses me off !!!

I just got subway yesterday, wish I would of measured it lol. The service was really great. I was just shocked the NH does not carry pepperjack cheese, say it's a Maine thing. I doubt Maine can be that spicy hahaha...

They have pepperjack in Southern California. As a rule, we don't take our cues from Maine.

Favorite sandwich from Subway

6" :gasp!: on wheat with provolone and the WHOLE garden except for the jalapenos and light mayo. Its my go-to.

Another fave is the 6" on wheat, provolone with the whole garden, extra spinach, no jalapenos and sweet onion sauce.

We have pepperjack in very South Georgia. I think NH may be out of the loop

haha I think she said it because I was right across the border, I am sure she has people asking all the time for pepperjack, and I assume other states have it as well not just Maine.

I saw this on the news. Can't believe anyone is suing over a sandwich. Bread dehydrates, or dries, over time. Microwaving is not helpful with that either, if Subway microwaves that bread.

I haven't been to a Subway since DD was a teen and wanted Subway b/c it was less fat than a burger. If they still had the $1.99 weekly sandwich I may go out of my way to get one, but I rarely eat anything out. I don't recall the sandwiches being spectacular, just an alternative to a burger.

Why don't people just make their own subs at home then measure that bread and see what they get, lol.
