MT senator not available to vote= 50 to 49.

Murkowski voting no= 49 to 49.
Corey Gardner voting no (& there are more rumors he is undecided at best, and may be leaning no)= 48-49.

If republicans don't have the votes on their own, Manchin isn't going to be the vote to put K on the court.

1,600 pages of what Senators are reviewing are of tips called into the FBI. I guarantee you that many Senators are reading those pages carefully, to gauge how many of those tips might be credible if they were to be followed up by a real FBI investigation.

Dems will, sooner or later, have any credible tips investigated, as well as all communication between the WH, the Senate, and the FBI about this nomination.

What shoes may yet fall about K, and about what Senators know was a politicized FBI investigation is likely giving some Senators the wobblies.

The vote may have to wait until Sunday.

The possible absence of the senator – expected to support the embattled nominee’s confirmation – on Saturday throws a wrench into the works as Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., aims to push through Kavanaugh’s nomination to the high court. Because McConnell started the clock Thursday evening, Republicans cannot technically delay his final confirmation vote unless they secure the consent of all 100 senators. (50 affirmative votes are needed for Friday morning's procedural vote to invoke cloture, meaning to formally end debate and move forward to Saturday's final vote.)

The GOP could, however, hold the session open overnight and allow Daines to vote Sunday if needed. It was unclear if Daines' promise to Kavanaugh meant that he would appear for a hypothetical Sunday vote.

I bet a lot of Senators wish that their daughter's wedding was scheduled for Saturday.

This thread is not about DJT, or DJT's taxes, not about his son or his family. It is not for general political conversation. And please do NOT introduce race into this discussion.

Numerous off topic posts have been removed. Please stick to the immediate topic.

Thanks.

Or that they needed emergency root canals.

From the Georgetown Prep yearbook:

"Squi," Christopher Garrett, Dr. Ford's BF in summer 1982, what he listed:

"Spread Eagle Club; I survived the 4th of July Club; Down the Hatch; Devil's Triangle; Think you have enough empties?; FFFFF; Red Sox v Orioles, who won anyway? ; Renate Alumni Club; 100 kegs or bust; Beach Week: the destructors; mouthwash; just get me home and I'll be alright."

Wasn’t the Spread Eagle Club the choir team? Consisted of Kavanaugh et al whooping as they played quarters and passed gas. Such innocent days, imo.

Opinion | Vote ‘no’ on Kavanaugh

But he went further in last Thursday’s hearing than expressing anger. He gratuitously indulged in hyperpartisan rhetoric against “the left,” describing his stormy confirmation as “a calculated and orchestrated political hit, fueled with apparent pent-up anger about President Trump and the 2016 election” and “revenge on behalf of the Clintons.” He provided neither evidence nor even a plausible explanation for this red-meat partisanship, but he poisoned any sense that he could serve as an impartial judge. Democrats or liberal activists would have no reason to trust in his good faith in any cases involving politics. Even beyond such cases, his judgment and temperament would be in doubt.

Daines said not Saturday, not Sunday either. Dude has no plans to be anywhere near DC for the entire weekend.
You sure about that?

Daines told CNN on Thursday that GOP leaders may be forced to hold open the confirmation vote for Kavanaugh overnight as the senator returns to Washington from his home state, where his daughter is being married.
"I'd come back after the wedding," he told CNN.
"It will probably be early morning," Daines said, suggesting he wouldn't get back until sometime early Sunday. "We're taking it a day at a time to see what happens."

Columbia law professors join calls to “cancel” Kavanaugh as student protests target SCOTUS nominee

On-campus protests followed the publication of an open letter in the New York Times written and signed by over 2,400 law professors nationwide opposing Kavanaugh’s confirmation, including at least 41 professors at Columbia Law School.

SIPA organizers also penned an open letter expressing their disapproval of the nominee’s potential confirmation. They called for Columbia to issue an official statement denouncing Kavanaugh, in addition to demanding institutional changes to the way sexual assault on campus is addressed.

“[We call for] stronger protections and recourse—including a fair grievance procedure for teaching and research assistants,” the letter said. “[We] expect Columbia University to issue a public statement and take all possible action to oppose the pending and unethical nomination of Brett Kavanaugh.”

Both organizers and protestors, some of them speaking through tears, declared their disappointment with Kavanaugh’s nomination and Columbia’s silence on the issue. Columbia cannot take partisan political stances at the institutional level, though University President Lee Bollinger has denounced some of the Trump administration’s policies in the past.

“It’s not right [that] when all these things are going on, that you go to class and not talk about it,” SIPA graduate student and event organizer, Andrew Chang, said. “The administration is not issuing any public statement about it, so a lot of this is just frustration about that.”

Florida man threatens to kill Democratic Congress members over Kavanaugh vote, police say

James Patrick Jr., 53, of Winter Haven, Florida, allegedly made the threats on Facebook numerous times.

“He threatened to kill Democratic members of Congress and ‘weak’ Republicans… and federal or local law enforcement that tried to interfere or come to his house,” said Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd.

According to Judd, one of Patrick’s posts said, “I can tell it seems I will be sacrificing my life for my country. But I am ready and will know who needs to be killed.”

Judd said deputies took Patrick into custody within five hours of when they were tipped off about the posts.

What I'm sure about is the fact Daines had originally stated he would not be back Sat OR Sunday. That McConnell is talking about maybe having to keep the vote open for him, and that Gaines is now saying he could perhaps return Sunday morning tells me two things: McConnell doesn't know if he has the votes, and Gaines is leaving the door open to the possibility there will be no need for him to hasten back. LOL.

Okay. Looks like my post about the vote maybe being delayed until Sunday to allow for Senator Daines to vote is accurate.

Temperament is key. Regardless of if the allegations are true, K did not demonstrate temperament that is acceptable during the hearing. I felt CF was more credible than K. I understand her inability to recall certain details because of a similar experience in my own life where only limited, specific details are permanently seared into my memory. She was mocked because of this, adding another reason why survivors often do not come forward to report attacks. I hope enough senators' consciences lead them vote no.
MOO

Christine Blasey Ford's changing Kavanaugh assault story leaves her short on credibility 10/3

Christine Blasey Ford's changing Kavanaugh assault story leaves her short on credibility

That link is to an opinion piec, written by someone who is not just extremely partisan, but with a history of some pretty vile & hateful SM attacks on those who she perceives as "enemies."

Given her bio & location & contacts, it's also probably a safe bet she is participating in the latest chapter of a coordinated, expensive campaign being waged against Ford by the Federalist Society & it's PR minions.

So sad for Renate. Too bad he did not apologize for that. His story about friendship with her is ludicrous. Reminds me of something Chris Watts might say

This isn't true. Daines has said he would be there for a vote.
He added, “My goal this weekend is to walk my daughter down the aisle and to see a new United States Supreme Court justice put on our court.”

Daines further stated, “Votes are held open all the time on the floor of the US Senate, once a vote is called. There have been some extenuating circumstances, you can back in time and history and see where they’ve had to hold the vote open for a member to come back and cast their vote.”

You can't always get what you want.
Lol. I wonder how often Kavanaugh has had to deal with disappointment.
