Even the most minimal of actual investigations include interviewing the accuser and the accused. How basic is that? And how telling that the FBI wasn't even allowed to do that, much less to interview the DOZENS of witnesses who requested to be interviewed by the FBI, and who could have helped collaborate both F's and Ramirez's allegations.

Its unfathomable. They didn’t interview Kavanaugh or Ford. WHAT?!?

Can you imagine his first day/week/month? The other justices will likely snub and shun him. Brett’s not going to have anyone to eat lunch with. He really will stain the Court’s image.

I hope they treat him the way he treated the Dem senators on the judiciary committee (as Matt Damon showed on SNL). He’s a non-credible, vile, partisan, entitled punk. (Yeah, I don’t like him one bit.)
Two wrongs do not make a right. Both parties need to clean up their act and that will will probably never happen. Both sides have their personal agendas and our country has split in half from that. JMO

The FBI report is 1,000 pages long. How realistic is it that this report can be read in its entirety before tomorrow's vote takes place?

IMO Kavanaugh should not be a Supreme Court Justice; he clearly demonstrated during the hearing that he is not non-partisan, he very clearly holds grudges against the Clinton's, and his behavior at the hearing was inexcusable...he was belligerent, disrespectful to those interviewing him and to the process by asking his interviewers questions as a means to NOT answer the question asked of him.

It is not realistic at all. But it’s par for the course for this fait accompli.

That Justice Stevens has said, on the record, that Kavanaugh's partisan & intemperate display was disqualifying & that K shouldn't be confirmed is absolutely astonishing.

Stevens is a life long republican. He praised K in a book he wrote in 2010, and supported K's nomination up until K went off the rails.

More astonishing: no seated or ex SC justice has EVER weighed in during a confirmation process. Ever. Much less explicitly said to Senators that they take the fact
that he has done so into consideration.

I was pretty sure before that most if not all current SC justices save one) are dismayed & alarmed by what's happening. Now I'm positive.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg weighed in on this matter both before and during. Here's a Washington Times link. I think they are main stream enough but if link unacceptable then someone mod alert it please.

IMO, if Kavanaugh was big enough to put the best interests of the United States and its citizens ahead of his personal ambition, he would have withdrawn his nomination days ago. The fact that he hasn't and will most likely be appointed does not bode well for any of us. Conservatives included.

Coons shares stories from sexual assault survivors on Senate floor

Coons said survivors have mobilized in a "unique" way following Christine Blasey Ford's testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee last week. Ford during the hearing detailed her allegation that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her in 1982. Kavanaugh has forcefully denied the accusation.

"Today, I want to take a moment and share with members of this chamber and folks who may be watching something else that was happening during that entire hearing that I did not expect - that was powerful and unique and special in my experience as a public servant," Coons said.

They can show how coordinated they can work as a team and get it done. Have faith in their intelligence.

There are less partisan sources than the one you cite, but even the one you cite makes it plain that Ginsberg wasn't criticizing K, much less saying he shouldn't be seated.

What she expressed was that the nomination process itself is broken, and that both parties are to blame.

That is entirely different than what Stevens is saying.

So it’s up to us, their constituents, to process this mess logically and clearly and demand our elected representatives do the same. If they don’t, vote those stinkers out of office. All of ‘em.

Thank you for clarifying this important point, @Hope4More.

Senator Daines (R-Montana) says he will not be in town to vote this weekend, no matter what. His daughter is getting married, ain't gonna miss her wedding.

That means if only one repub <modsnip> votes NO, Pence would have to break the tie, and if 2 go, it's a flat out NO, or McConnell will have to delay the vote.

Don't any other repub senators have out of town appts they must keep?

Yes, I know. I was just wanting to represent that RBG has given an opinion during the hearing. I would not expect her to say what Stevens is saying. He is not on the bench now, she is. i know in the past she said she would be a lifer but IMO she is starting to think about retiring instead (not NOW, future).

I still go back and forth about judging people for activities in high school. But Kavanaugh has denied the allegations.

Dr. Ford? If the FBI investigation did not verify this, that doesn't mean it didn't happen. But, it can't be corroborated.

bff

No, as Flake clearly stated today, and others on both sides agree, there was no “new” corroboration and no “new” information unconvered.

And the FBI didn’t interact at all with some 40 witnesses. The investigation was limited in scope to the allegation of sexual assault only. Not any of the other allegations made, including claims of his drinking, belligerance, treatment of women, honesty, character, etc.

Republican senator says he will not attend Kavanaugh confirmation vote if it is on Saturday - live updates

The general consensus so far from Republicans who have viewed the FBI report about Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh's background is that it yields no new information or additional corroborating information.

Again. Ginsberg gave her opinion about the nomination process, not the nominee. Ginsberg isn't the only SC justice who has made public comments about how broken the nomination process is, and other justices, notably Chief Justice Roberts, have warned that the broken nomination process risks having the public view the Supreme Court as entirely partisan.

Again. No Supreme Court justice has ever before spoken out and said a SC nominee wasn't fit to sit on the Court. That includes retired SC justices. It simply isn't done. That Stevens did so IS extraordinary, and another flashing red light, sirens blaring, warning to us all.

I think he’s finding a way to avoid his conscience by avoiding having to toe the party line.

To the contrary, I believe it would strengthen her resolve to stay on the court and help balance the scales if an admitted politically biased nominee like Kavanaugh is named to the SCOTUS.

Head’s up, y’all. Kavanaugh just tossed a Hail Mary.

AP news alert. Developing story.
