Yes his classmates having been coming out in past week to contradict him on so many points. It appears he lied Thursday about several issues. More people will change their minds and come forward. If confirmed he will be known as a credibly accused rapist confirmed by GOP. It is not about hating Trump remember Gorsuch was approved with some votes by several Democrats. There were no allegations against Gorsuch and he conducted himself admirably during his hearings.
Remember this is after the MeToo movement. Republicans would be wise to nominate someone else. Their party's leader, Trump, is approved by only 29% of women in one poll--GOP has lost the white, college-educated suburban women's vote. I don't think yesterday's spectacle with Lindsay Graham calling it--testimony of Dr.Ford--crap is going to help.

The only reason why they picked him is because he has stated publicly that he thinks the executive branch is above the law.

that is it

it is obvious that having someone on the SC that can get a whole bunch of people off the hook at the federal level

SC cant do anything about all the state charges so this ruckus has been nothing but an embarrassment for our nation

oceanblueeyes,
So well written and thought out. I was going to respond in similar, but your words are spot on.

I may not understand this but is it accurate that no matter what happens in the next couple of hours there is a unused law where Mitch M can make this disgusting stuff go on for several days??

what are the next steps and what do they mean

The only positive thing about this is it gives time for more creepy stuff about him to be discovered.

I found Dr. Ford credible. However there is no one backing up her claim...not even her close female friend.

I do not put emotions in my thought process or politics nor do I put my own past of being a survivor of sexual abuse either. To do so would make me biased unable to think clearly.

I do believe someone did this to her at some point in her teens but I must go by coroberating evidence and there isn't any. I cried for Ford as she testfied.

However I found Kavanaugh..s opening just as passionate and riveting. I cried during his opening and testimony too.

He has every right to be very anger.

Some seem to think an accused man should remain calm and unemotional no matter if they have been accused of sexual assault they have said they absolutely did not do. Seriously? Really? Since when are judges suppose to stop being human beings? I think he showed anger because he is like anyone else would be but most of it was emotional sadness how he and his family have been destroyed.

I dont think anyone would insist that be the case if it was a woman judge who said she is being falsely accused of a sexual assault.

In the end both of them were believable yet the facts like it or not supports BK...even using her own witness list.

Imo
Dr Ford comes across as credible and believable because she truly feels that Kavanaugh was the one who attacked her.

That doesn't mean she can't be mistaken and it was someone else. She admits she has memory issues with the event and as you say no one that she named as being at the party has corroborated her story. JMO

Sen Flake to vote yes

My question, which was only answered by a couple posters, was if anyone holds an opinion on this case (the sexual assault, not the confirmation in general) that is in conflict with their political affiliations?

Is anyone considering these allegations at face value?
Or do you only believe Kavanaugh because you are a Trumpster?
Or do you only believe Ford, because you despise Trump?

Is anyone actually going by the actual merits of the case at hand?

This is an interesting Q. I feel the case is incomplete. While I found Dr. Ford totally credible she is missing corroboration. And, this is not something that can be found or determined without the help of an independent investigation.

The back and forth on the FBI has rendered this case a political firestorm at the very top. It feels like it doesn't even matter what people think.

On this case as it stands alone my gut says vote no on confirmation, but based on the facts presented I would have to vote yes.

That said, the party in power gets to call the shots. Gorsuch is a conservative but I found him to be fit for the SC. With Kavanaugh, for a number of reasons before the allegations even surfaced, I do not find him fit. Yesterday's hearing just proved within a shadow of a doubt why.

So in answer to your Q. Elections have consequences. Regardless of who is president or which party is in power SCOTUS candidates should possess that high caliper combination of qualifications and temperament.

No one has accused Dr Ford of lying. Multiple people in past week have said Kavanaugh lied during his Fox interview and Thursday testimony. What does that tell you?

Michael Avenatti and Julie Swetnick will make media appearance this weekend. She is third accuser.

He has already written along with every single other person that Professor Ford has said were there, under penalty of a FELONY offence that to their knowledge. This did NOT happen.

Professor Ford has not ONE single, not One person cobberating this story. Judge Kavanaugh has 4 people named, disputing this story.
All of this, from a woman with admitted mental disorders.
Against a teenager 37 years ago. A teenager who worked and studied and has an un-blemished record after 6 FBI investigations.
I feel sorry for Professor Ford. Btw, I find it very compelling that no family (that I am aware of) was there to support her today.
In closing... I was a popular girl in High School. I attended a lot of parties. Yes, we would be drinking and dancing and hanging out. I had guys come on to me constantly. But, I was strictly raised and having sex with them was out of the question for me. I actually earned the nick name Iron Pants, in High school. Which
stuck for all 4 years.
I was considered a conquest. Did I have stupid boys try stupid stuff?? Absolutely. Did I have boys rub their "stuff" against me? Yup.
Did I have boys try to get me in a bedroom at these parties? Yup.
Do I have mental challenges and life changing challenges because of these rowdy teenage boys?
No. Not then, not now.
None of what I have just said casts disparity against any sexual abuse victim. Please do not go there.
I am talking about high school.

“None of what I have just said casts disparity against any sexual abuse victim. Please do not go there.”

Yes, actually it does. And you should do more research about the details and context of the “4 people named, disputing this story.” I’m not going to do it for you, but Kavanaugh misrepresented those people’s submitted “statements.”

A Supreme Court Case Could Liberate Trump to Pardon His Associates
The Utah lawmaker Orrin Hatch, who sits on the Senate Judiciary Committee, filed a 44-page amicus brief earlier this month in Gamble v. United States, a case that will consider whether the dual-sovereignty doctrine should be put to rest. The 150-year-old exception to the Fifth Amendment’s double-jeopardy clause allows state and federal courts to prosecute the same person for the same criminal offense.

I'm an independent, so I suppose there can be no way to have a conflict with my political affiliations.
I believe I have considered the allegations at face value. I believe that something happened to her, what I don't know and will never know is what actually happened. There are lots of scenarios that could be the case, since the questioning of the facts were not done within a small timeframe, then there is no knowing what actually happened.
I cannot say I believe or disbelieve Kavanaugh or Ford. But based on what has been presented, I do not believe that he should be voted no on these claims.

I am singularly unimpressed with Avenetti. IMO, he is a shyster.

Who has stated Kavanaugh lied during his testimony? I'd like to follow up.

“Mitchell spelled it out and was clear with senators that she could not take this anywhere near a courtroom,” one source told Fox News. She told them she would not charge the Supreme Court nominee and reportedly said she wouldn't even seek a search warrant.

Prosecutor tells wavering senators she wouldn't charge Kavanaugh, as vote looms

It will be Aventti that will take his victims case to criminal courts in Maryland

Gassey reminds me of an old dude who hates his job and is waiting around until he can get his benefits! He is repulsively obnoxious . I thought this throughout this charade the last two weeks -- he is crude - reminds me of an unhappy janitor!
