SURPRISE HEARING Friday 18th August

 • #621
I will take this with a grain of salt. I can think of many other things those men would want to do as soon as they were released. Also, why get an Ark license. I would think they need to get far away from there........

They would need a photo ID to do most anything.....catch a flight somewhere, open a bank account, even cash a check at a grocery store or something as simple as getting a library card! There was just a discussion on another forum here the other day about being asked for a photo ID to get a hotel room, although that was a new one to me. Most places that provide any kind of medical care will ask for a photo ID, and one would be required to rent an apartment or even a post office box! I would guess their legal teams thought that getting an ID was a basic need to take care of as soon as possible to get back into real life!

I agree, but they are probably stuck there for awhile, at least. I'm not sure where Lorri Davis-Echols lives? Little Rock? Does anyone know? Plus, I think they're serious about finding the real murderer. May be they will want to stay close to help do that?

I never thought about it before, but yeah, they would need ID. I'm not sure what the first thing I'd want to do is. Oh wait. Yes I do - a really good steak dinner!

I agree. The internet is blowing up about how could Damien and Jason possibly go to the DMV first thing upon release. It makes perfect sense to me - they need to establish their identity and try to begin a life. I don't know where they're going, but my next step would be to get out of Arkansas asap. I can imagine the police will be all over them in the months and years to come.

MOOOO

The interview with the father of Stevie, I believe, sounded very threatening to my ears. These three are in harms way staying in Ark, IMO>

Dan Stidham was Miskelley's attorney so that makes sense.

<snip>
LOL, thank you. *blush*
If someone wanted to tell me that I'm not up-to-date on this case or don't know all the facts, they might be somewhat accurate.
Still happy about today's news, though!

Thank you for posting this!

It makes perfect sense to me that Echols and Baldwin would head straight to the DMV. Nowadays you need proper identification to travel/ fly on an airlines.

I was just about to type that I bet they will be heading out of Arkansas, but then I remembered they are now serving 10 years of probation/ parole.

I was hoping they could really get away for awhile, maybe a tropical-type of vacation. After all they have been through, they certainly deserve it!

LOL...I'm betting that they and their attorneys are headed out to do more than a few news and talk show interviews in the next few weeks. They would absolutely have to get their ID's immediately. I would even bet that after years off the grid, they would even need ID to get basic services started like electricity, gas and water at an apartment. Life REQUIRES photo ID on a daily basis.

I must agree- and, I admit to being a Wikipedia-addict.
I have spent many lost hours on that website!

Its great for a lot of things but crime and politics arent two of them

Awesome Spoken Deelytful1, I was thinking that exact thought when I was watching the feed from the hearing,DOUBLE JEOPARDY.... Since we cannot retry a person for the same crime after they are exonerated, what do we do when they are forced to plead "GUILTY" on an Alford Plea? When the new evidence comes in shortly, the the STATE obviously was trying to avoid by AGREEING to this PLEA, what happens then? I KNOW, it can not come forward since the case is CLOSED and I mean CLOSED forever if I am correct? So we are left wondering if the true PERP is ever going to be held accountable for the HORRIFIC crime? In my mind and soley my opinion the West Memphis Police & the State of Arkansas will never hold anyone accountable for this crime!! This should go down in the annuls of crime novels and Attorney's alike to see what this supposed Justice System we have in our BELOVED Country!! Any re-vamping needed possibly just like Government? Again, JMHO??!! Take Care All and think about your Civil Liberties before you Judge... Ann :great::rocker::twocents::twocents:

Lol, I was trying to figure out how they learned to drive, how could they get driver's licenses really. You pinpointed it, they are going for identification.

Okay, I admit, I lost all thought process there for a minute, but you set me right.

Anybody know why they all got 10 years probation?

HI to my friend Smart Blonde, they are not on Probation they are on SIS, BS in other words.... They are allowed to leave Arkansas and go anywhere they choose to go, which is WONDERFUL... The only conditions they have (not reporting in like Probation) are to stay out of trouble and don't ever get arrested, otherwise, they would face depending on the crime an added sentence of 21 years!! OUCH!! Have a funny feeling, THAT is NOT going to happen......... AT least that is what I HOPE!! I know me, if I had to do 18 years I could possibly be VERY GREATFUL to get out or I could be very MAD!! I am not truly sure how I would feel....... Anyhow, God Bless Damien, Jessie, Jason and the 3 little Babies that everyone is foregetting, Stevie, Christopher and Michael!! :twocents::twocents::fireworks::fireworks::fireworks:

BBM. It is my understanding that they are NOT on probation or parole, thus they are not required to "report", and they have a suspended sentence. So if they commit a crime henceforth, they will go back to prison.

And they are free to go wherever they want to...

Hi everyone,

I came to this case years ago via Paradise Lost. This case hit several of my hot-button issues: people taking advantage of misfit kids, abuse of authority, miscarriages of justice, and more. I read Mara Leveritt's fascinating book, and had hoped for years that this day would come.

Several years ago, I decided to devote myself to the case and try to speak out and fight for these three. I decided to begin by immersing myself in the case, reading everything I could get my hands on - and there was a remarkable amount of information, due almost entirely to the wonderful Callahan's site.

An odd thing happened as I continued to read the investigation reports, interviews, and court transcripts: I began to strongly believe that they were guilty. The more I read, the clearer this seemed to be the case. I visited the major "non" board (down by the farm), but generally found the main posters there to be foul and bloodthirsty individuals. I did not want to subject to such garbage, so I've pretty much removed myself from consideration of the case since then.

Over the last few months, I have read about movement in the case, and went to see if there was any new info. I did find a well-written and sober (though opinionated) assessment of the case from a non perspective at this site: http://wm3truth.com/ I recommend it to anyone wanting to see why some (like myself) are sickened by this turn of events.

I sincerely hope that the WM3 are innocent, and that some great wrong has thus been righted. I don't believe this is the case, though, and (the worst part) I doubt anyone will ever know for certain. Rest in peace, Michael, Steve and Christopher.

bbm...that's the saddest part for me. Will we ever know the truth? I always thought that's what justice was all about. I guess not. :(

They are stuck there for a little while for sure. They weren't just released today and that's that. They have 10 more years of probation to serve and until they can get that transferred out of state, they are stuck....and all the more reason to get the rightful killer prosecuted. :)

IF they are Guilty (and I believe they are) I hope they get what is coming to them......

Three child killers are free to walk the streets........ makes me SICK!!!

God knows the Truth....... and one day the truth WILL come out.

Hello HRCODEPINK, again I will state they are not on "Probation" they are on a SIS stupid sentence. They may leave the State or Country any time they WISH. They just have to never get into the "JUSTICE SYSTEM" again and they will be perfectly fine and I some how believe that Arkansas will never attempt to prosecute them again UNLESS it is somehow a stupid, dumb crime like a DUI, etc.... To all whom are reading this "GOD BLESS the release of the WM3" It is SOOO long overdue and I am greatful that the Justice System worked in a very messed up way to finally let go of "3" INNOCENT MEN...... The sad part to say is our Justice System is MESSED UP and do not want to admit their COMPLETE implicit wrong doing in this over zealous WITCH HUNT!! Take Care All, JMHO and glad to be able to express it freely!! Ann :twocents::twocents::seeya::woohoo:

Actually no, that is not true. The case is not closed forever, unless West Memphis and AR decide that it is. There is no statute of limitations on murder. If the boys or their supporters or a random guy off the street or LE can come up with the true perp in this crime, they would be fully exonerated and their records cleared and they would probably get some sort of compensation for their years lost. However, sadly, this will likely never happen unless the supporters, the boys or some random guy off the street does it and does it loudly and publicly in such a way that it cannot be ignored by the powers that be. To would probably take continued pressure from their supporters and more importantly, people who vote in the state and in West Memphis. To continue to even look for the real perps would be an admission that they had done something wrong and the fact that the state required an Alford Plea when there are so many other valid reasons to let these boys go proves to me that they have no intention of mentioning this mistake.

I love my country tremendously and more than most of the people that I know. But I also love this country the way the founders intended...with reservation and attention to what the government, a necessary evil, is doing. It is foolish to believe that the government will always do the right thing and always have our best interests at heart in their actions.

I sit in class with people on a daily basis (Criminal Justice and Legal Studies, mind you) who believe that the 4th Amendment is "outdated" and the exclusionary rule needs to be changed to allow evidence that was obtained illegally by police to be admissible in court because it will make us all "safer." On it's face it may seem that way, without looking into the things that the founders expected of us, but truly, today and the events leading up to today go to show that we all need to be more vigilant when making sure that our government is doing the right thing.

“An avidity to punish is always dangerous to liberty. It leads men to stretch, to misinterpret, and to misapply even the best of laws. He that would make his own liberty secure must guard even his enemy from oppression; for if he violates this duty he establishes a precedent that will reach to himself.” ~ Thomas Paine

ETA: The above would also take a lot of time. Unless someone came in and said that they did it personally, and passed a poly and matched DNA and had some information that only the killer would know, because I don't see the state testing anything for them or their supporters that would prove they had made a mistake. It just doesn't happen. Not like that.

Thank you! I missed your previous post until just a second ago and have only seen in the articles I have read today that they were on probation. And as for the rest of your post, I couldn't agree more!! :great::great::great: <<I've been doing that all day!
