I have come across fellow Swedish TC readers referencing this case, including myself, so I’m creating a thread for reference.

Helen was an extremely punctual child who was abducted on her way back from a stroll to meet up with friends, who never met her that evening.

Instead she was abducted, tortured for days and murdered.

The search for her killer ended in 2003 when a hunch from a lady who knew someone in LE managed to persuade a person in charge of selecting the first 50 candidates to include an extremely creepy colleague of hers to the list of men to be swabbed.

Sometimes, there is at least serendipity.

Ulf Olsson (19 December 1951 - 10 Januari 2010) was sentenced for the murder of 10-year-old Hélen in March 1989, and of 26-year-old Jannica Ekblad in August 1989 (JE was a sex worker). Police were early on convinced that although there were clear differences in the two victims, they had lost their lives to the same killer. It was first in 2004 that DNA tests proved that he was the killer, he was one of 29 men tested. He was sentenced to forensic psychiatric care, and committed suicide by hanging at the psychiatric hospital where he was placed. He was also one of the suspects in the disappearance of SWEDEN - Jasmina Jasharaj, 6, Sävsjö, 15 April 1991 but there were not enough evidence for prosecution.
