Switzerland - Heidi Knobel, 16, Yverdon-les-Bains, 30 Aug 1976

Has this match been submitted ? Ruled out ? a lot of common points between Heidi Knobel and this Jane Doe.

I didn't. I agree she even has the same looks, but I'm still waiting for a kind of story about the circumstances on Heidi's site. That I couldn't find. Being more local maybe you could dig up more information. Only then I can make some kind of realistic, logical estimate if she could have ended up murdered in Slidell. I'm always very conscious about submitting someone. Maybe even to careful.

Thanks...being more local could help to find out more.
Actually, it is kinda odd : I went to dig in the Canton de Vaud 1970-1990 missing ppl archives (searching for Malibu John Doe) and I ended up seeing her file, I'm 99% sure. I will go back and take pictures of them if my memory isn't tricking me. They are accessible because Canton de Vaud discloses files earlier than other states.

Hi Smeijles, welcome. Interesting you made a connection between Heidi Knobel and the unidentified woman known as 'Mary Anderson'. I never associated the name Knobel with a Jewish surname. I have learned a bit more about it now. There is not much to go on, but a little stats. Heidi went missing in 1976, 16 years old. Nothing about the circumstances. She was born on July 21, 1960. "Mary Anderson", the Jane Doe was found in 1996 and was estimated between 30 and 50 years. Other sources say 33 - 45 yrs. That means she is approx. born between 1946 - 1966 or approx. 1951 - 1963. So that could match. The only other thing we know is that Heidi had dark hair, was Caucasian and looking at her photo she had pierced ears and very thin eyebrows. I don't say it's impossible but what is the change that a 16 yrs old girl would have made it to America. At least she must have had some "help" to survive.
Yeah Knobel/Knobil is a very common name in Switzerland and is of german descent. Some jewish families carry those names, some are christians.

Here is what I found in the swiss newspapers archives. I will try to throw a translation in case you need it

That is very helpful. Thank you!
My French is not what is was anymore, but I can follow it pretty well. I think for others who want to search with us, maybe you could do a translation of the paper clipping on the left/under. I think there is a lot of explanation what was going on in her life. Also maybe we could try to add the additional info to the doe network? I read she wanted to be a stewardess, that opens somehow the possibility she traveled. But then again she left everything behind so I can hardly think of a runaway situation.

OT - BTW who is the other lady? Marie José Legeret The paper clipping is very hard to read. Is she another missing woman, but declared dead? I found some interesting stuff about her when I googled her name...I thought this was also a "burried" file, but it's not.

Mysterious disappearance in Haldimand

Runaway or kidnapping ?

Since a couple of days, no one knows where a young 16 y.o girl, who worked as an au pair at 51, Haldimand Avenue for Mrs Jocelyne Cosandey (a medical delegate and mother of two) is.
Born on july 21st in 1960, this young girl, Heidi Knobel, is originary from Arbon in the Thurgau Canton, where her mother and her two sisters live. She started working for Mrs Cosandey on the 15th of July, Mrs Cosandey who says that the young girl seemed happy with her new position, always cheerful, hard-working and well-behaved, serious and also athletic. She was committed to marry a technical cooperator presently based in Africa and wanted to become an air stewardess when she would reached legal age. « Very good looking girl », it is also said so.

At the end of last week, Miss Knobel had to go through a small surgical intervention at Yverdon Hospital, where she came out from on Monday between 10 and 10.30 am, then headed home.
She dropped her bag and got back to her work and usual chores.

Because the girl was on leave every afternoon until 5pm, her absence didn’t strike Mrs Cosandey. As she didn’t see her return, she called the police around 6pm (after calling her family in Arbon who had no clue of her whereabouts). Since then, no one has seen Miss Knobel, who is now researched by the Federal and Cantonal Police.

Miss Knobel hasn’t been yet subject to a public search warrant, because these disappearances happen « every day » as we have been told in Lausanne. But is it really a « banal » disappearance though, a disappearance that remains no less disturbing, or could it be a kidnapping, as supposed by Mrs Cosandey ? Little knowing the girl, she nevertheless declares being certain she did not run away, because she left all her belongings as well as her ID at home.
For all practical purposes, she left us a picture of the young girl asking for its massive diffusion, hoping to get at least a few clues about her ; the woman was visibly astonished at the silence surrounding the mysterious case.

Tall, , slim and healthy, Mrs Knobel was wearing a pair of blue jeans like trousers, a dark (probably navy blue) pullover/sweater with kimono-like sleeves, and some dark purple loafers. She has short, dark brown hair, styled in a neat haircut. She probably wasn’t wearing a jacket on Monday, and, if she had been surprised at it seems, either in the apartment, either in the building hallway or even outside the building, she was probably not carrying her personal belongings, her bag in particular.

The near future will - maybe - give us an opportunity to tell what really happened to the disappeared girl.

You're right it's an odd story! I will look into her case and let you know

I think Marie José Légeret diserves her own forum topic. This is huge. I'll DM you what I just found in order not to flood this topic with another case.

Thank you! It feels like LE dropped the ball big time. I wish we knew if they ever get in contact with her fiancé. I wonder about his thoughts when she vanished. Did he return to Switzerland? Was there also a Mr. Cosandey or other males around the household? A lot of questions that we probably not going to get answers for. At least we know a bit more....Wonderful work @jellabiafro! You are a big asset.

This feels more like an abduction to me....So sad the near future knowing never came.

For me there are some inconsistencies/question marks in the story. So she was in the hospital over the weekend for a minor medical procedure....(if it was that minor....why stay there a whole weekend? Times where different I know, but still a question mark) released on Monday at 10 - 10:30 am and then headed home....where is home?....dropping her bag off.....who saw her for the last time/what time and could give such an exact description of the clothes she wore. Her mother, sisters? Mrs. Cosandey? The hospital staff? Did she met her mother/sisters?

What is the distance between the hospital/her mother's place and the work place? Did she went to the work place (meaning home?), dropped of the bag (what time?) and went out again?, met Mrs Cosandey, being expected back at 5 pm. but never showed up.

Still keep wondering why she went to the hospital...it could variate from an ingrowing tow nail to an abortion...and everything in between. What was the policy on abortion in Switzerland in those days?

Hello,
I discovered this forum by chance while searching for informations on the Heidi Knobel's case.
I'm posting here because I am Swiss and grew up in the region concerned by this disappearance. So maybe I can bring some other elements.
Thanks a lot for the press clippings, it gave me a global idea of the situation.

Forgive me if there are mistakes in my message, I try to write as well as possible in English.

Vous écrivez très bien l'anglais!

Est-ce la famille la cherche encore? Exist-il un page Facebook pour Heidi de votre connaissance?
