Tracey Frederika Splinter

(born October 28, 1971, in Cape Town, South Africa) is a German-South African writer and spoken-word author who mysteriously disappeared in August 2016 in Switzerland. Splinter had acquired German citizenship in 1997. Her works were in English, German and Afrikaans.

Until July 2016 she was registered in Barsinghausen, Germany, the rent for her apartment was paid by the social welfare office.

Tracy's parents commissioned a private detective agency to conduct a discreet investigation in July 2017. The detective agency found out that Tracy was staying in two hotels in Vals, Switzerland, in August 2016. She paid for the overnight stays here in cash. Afterwards, a trace of her was found in a fancy hotel: Here too, she wanted to pay for her stay in cash. When this was not possible, "she angrily left the hotel" (as stated by hotel "7132" staff in Vals).

On August 29, 2016, Tracy's suitcase was found at a bus stop: A suitcase on wheels with clothes, her backpack, laptop, camera, cell phone, walking sticks and documents. A map was also found on which an Asian market in Chur, Switzerland, was marked.

Her whereabouts remain unknown.

The English language Wikipedia you linked says her property was found in her hotel room.
The German says a bus stop.

I'm curious why she was in Switzerland and how law enforcement investigated. Did they interview hotel guests? Conduct searches of the area? Etc.
Were there any security cameras to check?

You're right, the english wikipedia states it was found in a hotel room but considering she was rejected the possibility to pay in cash at hotel 7132, I assume her belongings were found right after, at the bus stop down the street (a few meters away from the hotel).

It is very hard to find accurate informations regarding the investigation and I don't know if guests were interviewed or not. They also questionned people at the Asian Market in Chur, but she could've marked the building for other purposes, like meeting with someone for instance. (there are appartments on top of the store in the same building).

Yeah, only a few podcasts and just the articles above. Nothing new has come up. I hope someone is still working on this case and that she'll be found one day.
