Taylor Swift concerts canceled after 2 arrested in Vienna for alleged terrorist attack plans. Aug 2024

"They were plotting to kill a huge number -- tens of thousands of people at this concert, including I am sure many Americans -- and were quite advanced in this," Cohen said Wednesday. "The Austrians were able to make those arrests because the agency and our partners in the intelligence community provided them information about what this ISIS-connected group was planning to do."

''Swift broke her silence about the cancellations last week after her London shows had concluded.
"Having our Vienna shows cancelled was devastating," she wrote in a statement posted to Instagram. "The reason for the cancellations filled me with a new sense of fear, and a tremendous amount of guilt because so many people had planned on coming to those shows."

She thanked authorities -- "thanks to them, we were grieving concerts and not lives," she wrote -- and said she waited to speak until the European leg of her Eras Tour concluded to prioritize safety.
"Let me be very clear: I am not going to speak about something publicly if I think doing so might provoke those who would want to harm the fans who come to my shows," she wrote''

''When an event draws a substantial temporary population influx, public safety is a concern. Toronto’s mayor has expressed confidence that the shows will be safe, and that comprehensive security measures will be in place.
These preparations, including designating a limited-activity zone around the Rogers Centre, are underway.
Dedicated fans, known as Swifties, arriving in Toronto for the Eras Tour should not be alarmed, as Toronto is generally a safe city. However, any concertgoer should be aware that an event of this magnitude is a soft target for terrorist attack.''
''Among the most important concert safety steps — for women especially, who constitute the majority of Swifties — is to adopt a mindset that allows for your instincts to protect you. If you get the sense that something is wrong or does not add up, do not ignore it. Being overcautious is better than ignoring sensible warning signs.'

I’m not sure what safety operations Indianapolis had for Taylor’s last U.S. concerts, but our daughter and her friend (in their 50’s) both had a great time at the third and last concert. The short videos she sent were amazing!

Germany has charged a Syrian juvenile with supporting a foreign terrorist organization for helping to plan a foiled attack on a Taylor Swift concert in Vienna last year...
Identified as Mohammad A, the suspect helped the would-be attacker by translating Arabic bomb-building instructions and putting him in contact with a member of the Islamic State militia online, according to the charges...

Federal prosecutors said in a statement that he is accused of supporting a foreign terrorist organization and preparing a serious act of violence.

Prosecutors said that the suspect supported the ideology of the Islamic State group and that, between mid-July and August last year, he was in contact with a young man in Austria who planned to attack a Taylor Swift concert in Vienna.

He allegedly helped by translating bomb-building instructions from Arabic and organizing online contact with an IS member abroad, among other things.

The suspect also allegedly gave his acquaintance in Austria the text for an oath of allegiance to IS, which the latter used to join the group.

''The main suspect in the case has been identified as Beran A, who authorities say was part of an IS cell in eastern Austria.

Beran A, who is now 20 and from Ternitz south of Vienna, was arrested before the concerts following a tip-off by the CIA, which said the plotters had hoped to kill a large number of concert-goers.

Investigators allege he had also planned to carry out an earlier attack in Dubai in March 2024.

Reports suggested it was part of a co-ordinated plot involving three simultaneous IS attacks but Beran A had changed his mind at the last minute.''
