From the second article…

“The state crime lab got new technology in 2023 that allows investigators to extract DNA from samples even if they are small, degraded from age or contain DNA from multiple people, he said. That technology allowed them to identify a single male DNA profile, which they submitted to a national law enforcement database.

Bundy’s DNA was a match, Mason said.

That profile can now be used by other law enforcement agencies who have long suspected Bundy of additional unsolved killings, he said, adding that more families could get similar closure.” (bolded by me)

Does this mean we didn’t have a DNA profile for Bundy prior to this??
They had a vile or Bundy’s blood that was found in 2011. They used the vile to get DNA to test against the physical evidence recovered from Ann Marie Burr’s house but the results were inconclusive.

Even in 2011, DNA testing was nowhere near as advanced as it’s gotten in the past few years. I have a feeling it will be a lot easier to exclude Bundy as a suspect in cases now.

Perhaps they can also retest the skeletal remains found in 1989 where Bundy claimed Nancy Wilcox was buried. I don’t know if those remains were determined to be human or not.

Great interviews, very good.

I admire the guy who found her body. He and his girlfriend were beginning a hike up the mountainside and saw Ted's VW pull into the area where they had parked. By the time they got down the mountain, Ted was gone but Laura's body was there. At first, the police suspected the student who found her, but later no longer considered him a suspect. He was just trying to do the right thing in a horrible situation. He and his girlfriend must have been quite frightened that Ted would come back.

Laura was such a young woman, as all of Ted's victim's were. They were mostly high school or college students or young working women. Laura's sister said she was 6'1". Ted usually attacked smaller, petite women as they were not as strong and easier to control. Ted must have reached a point in his murderous spree where he was acting more on impulse and taking more chances. He wasn't getting caught and he just kept doing it.
