Hi, Pan. It looks like he may have had a stroke. I noticed the last time I saw him on TV that he had a limp and was quite heavy. He didn't look well.

I'm not a Democrat but for some reason I've always been fascinated by the Kennedy clan.

There are alot of interesting books about them, that's for sure. Some of them are/were really, really GOOD; and some of them were/are a mess or really, really bad. (the Kennedys)

But if you look around, it's that way with many families, especially political ones, and that way across our entire population IMO. Many have substance abuse problems.

Some "repent" and try to do good works to make up for it; some never do.

yahoo is quoting medical folk as saying it was a seizure and not a stroke and he's watching baseball with his family in the hospital. I have issues with his behavior over the years, but it's not my place to sit in judgement.

Yes, a little sarcasm here; not everyone around here makes it to the hospital on time.

We'd still be sitting (or seizing) in the waiting room. When I was 12 I broke my leg. We were in the emergency room waiting when a boy and his grandfather came in. Boy had gotten his arm caught in some sort of farm equipment (he was a teen but maybe not 16) and had a towel wrapped around it but blood still dripping on the floor. Nurse comes out to us and says we're next, we say what about him, nurse said we'd been waiting and he just got there - we said take him please and they did, but good grief.

Of course then x-ray was fun too - they took a side shot and then wanted me to sit upright and put my foot flat on the table for an above shot, told her I couldn't flatten my foot and she just grabs it a pushes it down! And THEN they said it was a bad sprain see my family doc in a week if no better. 5 AM the next day we get a call to rush me back in and don't let me use my leg (I couldn't it was like I had no left leg) because BOTH bones are broken and my achilles tendon was partially torn!!!! When they showed us the x-rays I could see the breaks!!! (Of course I knew it was broken as it happened cos I felt the bones shift "off and back") I was in a cast to my hip for two months and then below the knee for 3 more weeks seeing an ortho specialist regularly throughout - they were concerned about the achilles tearing the rest of the way.

Sorry to hijack, but it's kind of relevant to medical care variances.

uh-oh; hope I didn't bring out a hornet's nest. I've just always noticed that our Congressmen and others have the most EXCELLENT of care; and do they even have to make payments for insurance? Maybe for their families; I have no idea.

"It may manifest as a seizure in which the person will lose consciousness and may shake all over," she said. "So strokes and seizures can be linked. However, sometimes seizures can be a manifestation of other things, such as tumors of the brain. So we'll have to wait and see if he had a seizure that was unrelated to a stroke or possibly a mini stroke."

Well, to be fair Dick Cheney and others have gotten the same prompt treatment, over and over. I believe he would have died long ago without excellent treatment.

To be fair, there are places in our country with excellent health care. If you're lucky or well off,you have good insurance. But I've heard of so many that just don't make it to the hospital in time (with heart attacks, strokes), they wait too long themselves or the ambulance just can't get there on time. On the other hand, I know of many miracles as well.

I think they have to do tests. He has had a carotid artery problem in the past.

I'm glad he's doing well but I sometimes wonder if this could've been a result of another medical problem he had recently.

Yes, Sanjay Gupta said they would have to do tests, and that he did have that surgery not long ago.

Alot of times that surgery doesn't go completely, well, or doesn't have "perfect" results.
