A 17-year-old male has been charged with attempted murder in connection with an attack that seriously injured a young girl in the Ottawa Valley two weeks ago, according to police.

An eight-year-old girl was found with serious injuries along Quadeville Road in Quadeville, Ont. at approximately 12:30 a.m. on June 24. Ontario Provincial Police had responded to a report of a missing child in the community.

The Renfrew Paramedic Service said the girl was suffering from “multiple life-threatening traumatic injuries.” The child was transported to CHEO, where she was listed in serious but stable condition last week. The child remains under the care of medical professionals.

Ontario Provincial Police announced Wednesday a teenager from eastern Ontario has been charged with attempted murder and sexual assault with a weapon on a person under 16 years old. Police say the name of the accused cannot be released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

On June 25, police initially said investigators suspected the girl was injured in an animal attack but said that “further testing and analysis is required.”

“During the investigation, the cause of the victim’s injuries was unclear. While early evidence suggested a possible animal attack, investigators did not rule out human involvement,” the OPP said in a media release Wednesday evening.

“To aid in the investigation, multiple pathology experts were consulted. While the incident is still under investigation, recent testing of samples taken from the victim’s wounds has now revealed no traces of animal DNA.”

There was a heightened police presence in Quadeville Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, with several OPP cruisers parked on one street in the community.

“Really hard for the parents to think that….they didn’t seem like they didn’t know anything either,” Bernard Dwyer told CTV News Ottawa.

“I never figured it was an animal,” Mary Dwyer said Wednesday afternoon.

Police had warned residents to keep children indoors or under close supervision as the investigation continued into the incident.

Ontario Provincial Police are planning to hold a townhall meeting in Quadeville on Saturday to “address questions and concerns from local residents.”

“The OPP acknowledges the community’s concerns regarding this incident and sincerely appreciates the public’s patience as the investigation progresses,” the OPP said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

Quadeville is located 160 km west of Ottawa and 75 km of Renfrew.

I’m somewhat local and there were a couple of things that tipped me off early on that this wasn’t actually an animal attack.

The first red flag was the public warning. Police told people to keep their children inside and in sight, but there was no mention of pets. That immediately stood out to me. In rural Ontario, any time there’s even a suspected animal threat, especially something like a bear or coyote, you always see warnings about keeping dogs and cats indoors.

Then there was the timeline. The child was apparently (according to local gossip) last seen in fairly public area in the evening of one day. She wasn’t found until around midnight the following night, severely injured in a wooded area. It didn’t make sense to me that a wild animal would somehow take a child from a public location and drag her kilometres away without being seen or leaving any clear trace. The story never lined up.

A few days ago they put out a public request for a “witness” to come forward. But the description was very specific: a man in his 60s, rides a motorcycle, has lived in three specific cities. That’s not a generic witness description, that’s someone they clearly had already identified. It felt more like they were deliberately showing that they had some info instead of being transparent.

And now we’ve learned a 17-year-old boy has been charged with sexually assaulting the child. Which raises a massive question: why were police putting out stories about animal traps? Why were there articles about DNA testing her wounds to figure out what kind of animal attacked her? That is not an incorrect information delay, this seems like an entire false narrative perpetrated deliberately.

Great post. If said witness is local, I assume it didn't take long for someone to come forward and identify him ?

I get that the YCJA is serving it’s purpose of ensuring that not everyone with access to a search engine or a newspaper knows his name, but in a town that small there’s no way every resident doesn’t know exactly who this kid is.

Graphic Warning

I’m beginning to think that this poor child was bitten repeatedly by the 17 year old so much so and so viciously that it appeared that she was attacked by an animal.

I'm guessing the animal attack narrative was to give the perpetrator(s) a false sense of security. JMO

From Today's Toronto Sun Newspaper July 14, 2025

The 17-year-old seemed like a “quiet, awkward kid” to teachers at Madawaska Valley High School.

Mostly, he hung around a group of girls. There was little that set him apart as he finished Grade 11. His parents were divorced, and he lived with his mother in tiny Quadeville (Population: 300) in Renfrew County.

It is, as a friend of mine who lives in the area described it: The end of the line.

But that teenage boy is now in a world of hurt, accused of a heinous attack on an eight-year-old girl that has sickened even veteran detectives.

“What happened to him in less than a month? I don’t know. No one does,” my friend said, adding, “His mother seems normal but obviously, something snapped.”

Of course, under the provisions of the crazy-making Youth Criminal Justice Act, we may never know the boy’s name – unless there is a next time.

The teen is now charged with attempted murder and sexual assault with a weapon in connection with an attack on the little girl. He remains in custody and is slated to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date. None of the charges have been proven in court.

On June 24, around 12:30 a.m., the OPP Canine Unit found the little girl suffering life-threatening injuries and rushed to the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) in Ottawa. Her injuries were so horrific, cops believed she had been ravaged by a wild animal.

Parents were warned to keep their kids indoors. But forensics revealed there were no traces of animal DNA. It was a different type of animal, the most dangerous kind.

“That little girl was cut to pieces,” my friend, who asked not to be identified, adding she was then “left her to die.”

The victim reportedly knew her allegedly attacker well. On the day she was attacked, she was walking home from the store in Quadeville when terror struck. Another local claimed that when the girl emerged from her coma, she pointed the finger at the boy.

The girl lives near her alleged attacker. And everyone knows everyone in the village.

“It’s the end of the road, literally and figuratively. It’s logging, hunting and fishing down there,” my friend said. “Not much else. And almost everyone has the same last name: Quade. As in Quadeville.”

The victim has embarked on a long road of recovery and is under constant medical care. She had been happy child.

“When she sees you, she always approaches with a huge smile,” Quadeville Pentecostal Church Pastor Joseph Fiorentino said last month.

“She has a spunky soul that is full of kindness, love for others, and spiritual curiosity. If you have had a challenging day, this little lady is going to cheer you up.”

Her accused attacker was described as “normal.”

Unfortunately, “normal” doesn’t account for much these days.

Anyone with information or video that could help investigators in the case is asked to call the Upper Ottawa Valley detachment of the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Does this mean, the boy was in the hospital room, with the little girl? Such a sad story :(

I think they mean figuratively - she probably wrote down or typed his name when they asked what attacked her.

I can’t imagine how chilling and awful it would be for everyone in the room to expect her to tell them it was a bear or coyote or whatever and to get a teenage boy’s name instead.
