Whoops, I didn't notice it was in his bedroom. Well, then don't hang the swords in the kid's bedroom! That's a bit of a DUH right there! Even if he collects them. If nothing else, you can certainly tell the kid not to sit beneath the swords when playing. :doh:

Or keep the blade better protected.

My son has several swords and has had two of them since he's been six years old. Yes, I was a nervous wreak at first and had to be persuaded. He's very involved in Martial Arts training, he goes 6 days a week. Swords are a big part of his training. He has other weapons as well, a whip chain, staff and a rope dart.

I know now with all that training, he is very responsible.

I think whoever displayed the sword on the wall should have done a better job securing it.

But "accidents" can be foreseen and can be prevented.

The blade was not protected....or in a glass case.

If the sword was dislodged by a simple act of playing, then obviously the sword was not secured to the wall properly.

Simple cost effective precautions often save lives.

But this is a a terrible thing to happen to this family.

I can't understand why they wouldn't have wired the sword to whatever it was hanging on. I live in California. Everything gets wired, just in case of earthquakes. I personally wouldn't let my kid have a sharp sword displayed in his room unless he was in a martial arts sport. Maybe not even then, because even if he was responsible about it, his doofus friends could start monkeying around with it and hurt someone. Often kids who are trained with firearms are the ones that get hurt when their idiot friends are handling the gun without the parents permission.
