One thought I had in reference to the DNA on a presser cooker bomb is that there was a bomb at the site of the shoot out as well. I wondered if the DNA was on that one. jmo

I wonder that too.

All sorts of DNA and prints could be on the damaged bits of the ones at the marathon, and defense attorneys would be all over that. But, if it is the bomb at the shoot out, only the brothers' DNA and prints should be on it.

These 3 students have no idea how bad a Federal Criminal Record is. Can't believe they through away evidence in a murder/terrorist case. Wow. If convicted, life in the U.S. will not be as pleasant as far as job or career, or later in things such as adoption, or anything that requires a criminal background check.

I don't understand the reasoning behind the bolded bit. How would taking DT's laptop while he was not home look less theft-like than taking a backpack?

Not only that, but you are worried about the roommate thinking you are stealing, but not worried you are interfering in Federal investigation? Something doesn't jive here!!

Yes, it does appear to show a lot of inside exploded material. Just don't see the stripe, still, on TT's backpack strap. DT's has a stripe on the straps--but in reverse; it's dark on light.

Here are stills as best I could get from that CBS video released by the FBI, compared to the shredded backpack remains:

Fragment recovered:

DT's backpack:

I'm seeing that short stripe across the strap on TT's backpack, it looks like there are two of them visible on the strap on his right shoulder?

Re appearances before the federal immigration judge this morning:

BBM

Kadyrbayev, who had studied engineering, was dismissed from UMass after the fall semester, but stayed in the United States. His lawyers argued that he should be allowed to leave the United States voluntarily. A hearing on Kadyrbayev’s case will be held on May 22.

Tazhayakov, an economics major, had his visa terminated on Jan. 4, but he was allowed to reenter the country on Jan. 20 in New York, the judge said in court. The discrepancy puzzled Judge Day. “That doesn’t make any sense,” he said. Day set a bail hearing for Tazhayakov for May 9.

A UMass Dartmouth official confirmed Kadyrbayev was no longer enrolled in school while Tazhayakov was still registered for classes.

One thing that is interesting to me,is that lying to authorities is a worse offense than hiding evidence.

Clearly they don't watch enough cop shows - of course LE was going to interview the roommate, who was going to say that the three friends came in, looked shiftily around, hung out an uncomfortable few minutes and then took DT's backpack and laptop.

At the very least it appeared as if the two Russian friends admitted to taking this stuff - the American friend apparently lied several times about it! With so many witnesses, how on earth did he think that story would fly during a terrorist investigation? The unbelievable stupidity!

Vaseline: how is this used in bomb making?

I'm thinking those are adjustable buckle clips, since they go horizontally across the strap. But what the FBI photo seems to show (in the red oval) are thin, lighter stripes running vertically (lengthwise) along the straps.

Lawyers for the men said at the hearing the men had cooperated with Homeland Security and FBI investigators for hours and were only college buddies with Dzhohkar Tsarnaev and should be released.

So admitting you tried to hide a terrorist's bomb evidence is supposed to more than make up for the fact that you tried to hide a terrorist's bomb evidence?

How can the lawyer say that with a straight face!! They disposed of evidence and admitted to knowing that it WAS evidence of terrorism! They honestly think they can just leave the country because they "cooperated"?

Looked it up and yes, vaseline can be used in making bombs! I hope my laptop is never subject to a forensic exam!

I remember Martha found out the hard way.

Hmmm.. maybe you're right, I can't tell from the TT pics.

I agree. But I don't think it's supposed to logical to us. This is just teen speak for "I really messed up."

"Kadyrbayev knew when he saw the empty fireworks that Tsarnaev was involved in the marathon bombing," the affidavit reads. "Kadyrbayev decided to remove the backpack from the room in order to help his friend Tsarnaev avoid trouble."

Kadyrbayev and Tazhayakov face maximum sentences of five years in prison and fines of $250,000. Phillipos, a U.S. citizen, faces a maximum sentence of eight years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Who ever was in the car would have needed a passport to re-enter the US!

They would have needed identification to enter Canada and then to re-enter the U.S.
Wonder if he travelled by air.

Wow! This just keeps getting more and more bizarre, doesn't it?

I cannot imagine the mind-set that would lead these young men to lie time after time to Federal investigators. WTF?

I simply cannot imagine that upon learning that a "friend" had killed innocent people - and by then they apparently were quite cognizant that their friend was one of the bombers - the mind-set that would lead these guys, if innocent, to dispose of evidence.

I don't like this. I don't like this at all. I am suspicious of these three.

IMO they look more like strap adjusters to me. They look raised - above the fabric rather than in it. I also can't see any sign of the 'hour glass' shaped ( for lack of a better description) feature on the front of TT's bag on the shredded bag. Then there's the white patch on the shredded bag. 'Tis odd.

They are arrogant and think they are immortal!
