Just a good opinion piece on explanation vs justification, and how they arent thesame. Just thought it might help people see why some of us question why, posit explanations, etc, but it doesn't mean it is an attempt to justify the crime.

and this from your post where you say:

it might help people see why some of us question why, posit explanations, etc, but it doesn't mean it is an attempt to justify the crime.

That occurs frequently here our "why" want is more from a understanding place -we can have empathy while not having sympathy but there is a world of difference between the two.................

Ah, good piece, Gardenlady! Saved to bookmarks. Not only touches on the subtle difference between justification and explanation, but also the tendency to want to 'wrap it all up' in one explanatory box.

Real life is more complicated, usually.

I completely fail to see what illegal immigration has to do with this case.

ANderson saying built in apt:

I would think having 70 hours a week with wife gone you could do it in your apt -- your wife is not going to return home nightly and start inspectin her apt.

We are talking about a pressure cooke and some fireworks - not a large thing to hide!

Waiting to hear the cause of death of TT now that the body has been released to the funeral home.

When I think of "impulsive blind allegiance to a friend without much thought for the bigger picture" in the context of terrorist bombings that resulted in deaths & maiming, I can't help but wonder to what cause this possible "blind allegiance" may have been given.

When the pics of the "terrorista #1" license plate were posted awhile ago, I paid little attention. I filed it away for future reference.

Now, I'm beginning to wonder how the owner of that car may perceive himself. I don't find anything "romantic" or "cool" about trying to project an image of oneself as a terrorist, even if that portrayal was possibly made in jest. I find it repulsive. Terrorism is NOT romantic or cool.

History is filled with examples of counterculture rebels of various ideologies who effected peaceful change without committing acts of terrorism that caused death & injury to innocent people.

ETA: The fact that these 3 allegedly conspired to dispose of material evidence directly related to terrorist bombings suggests to me that they may possibly believe that violence is a means to an end (whatever that end may be), and suggests to me that they were/are supportive of DT's & TT's heinous actions.

Over the years I have learned that many people who live here, but who were born in another country don't consider the USA home. This was a revelation to me. It somewhat surprised me, because some of these people have been here for decades! It means they do not care as much as someone who was born here, especially someone who's family has been here for generations. Just some thoughts and something to chew on.

They consider themselves at war. That is what happens when everyone thinks their right and the other side is wrong. The people who are killed are just collateral damage in thei rfight for "the right way".

I don't agree with terrorism and I don't agree with war (which is difficult since I have been a military wife for 11 years), but I can see that they think they are right and we are wrong. We think we are right and they are wrong. Our army goes to another country, shoots, boms and kick in doors. We feel we have that right because we we are at war and our troops are our combatants. I assume that since they are waging a war, they feel that they are their combatants.

but what I don't get is the terrorists are using that same argument, they are against the war so how do they come up with the conclusion that two wrongs would make a right?

http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/201...-plotted-july-4-attack-investigators-say?lite

His body has gone to a Funeral Home:
"Meanwhile the body of Tamerlan Tsarnaev was moved to funeral home on Thursday evening at the request of family members, according the Massachusetts Medical Examiner’s Office.

Soon after receiving the body the funeral home then must file a death certificate, which would make public Tsarnaev’s cause of death."

I dont think there will be too many surprises with cause of death!

These two has never been to any other country with which US is at war.
It is not ,IMO, about territory (i.e who we are killing where) it is more about killing in societies that do not match our world view.

Back to belief systems IMO

(CNN) -- The bombs used in the Boston Marathon attack were built in the apartment that suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev shared with his wife and child, a U.S. law enforcement official with first-hand knowledge of the investigation told CNN on Thursday.

the same way we do!
I'm against all wars,I think they're horrible, unnecessary and preventable. There should be no wars in this day and age IMO,I do not agree with the U.S. presence in the middle east at all.But that seems to be the main complaint of the terrorists. But if they are truly against the war how can they wish harm on innocent people themselves?

folks: this is NOT the political pavilion thread. If you want to discuss wider political issues like immigration take it there. This thread is for case discussion. :tos:

On CNN they were also saying that it would smell to make bombs and were wondering how KR would not notice that.

CARIIS: they made at least 3 pc bombs not only one, plus several pipe bombs! Then bags full of fireworks too.

How big is that apartment? how many rooms? Does someone know? Maybe he had a room in which she and the daughter were not allowed, which he locked?

CARRIS, maybe you could make it clear what is a quote and what is not. As you've put it, it might make one suspect that "dealing" was a part of the story
I forgot the old IMO,

I guess the same way that Australia, the US, Briton, and any other country who are currently in Afghanistan do. You can't commit and act of war in our country, so we will retaliate by committing an act of war in your country. Tit for tat. We don't agree with them being at war with us, but we commit acts of war against them.
