Agree, as I recall, the father said "All hell will break loose" if his sons were killed or something to that effect. That could be interpreted as a serious threat, considering who their sons were, and what their sons did.

If the US does allow the dad into the US, he'd be under constant surveillance.

That's how I interpreted it. So why should he be allowed into US at all?

I always try to be as objective as possible. Here you have the older brother running with a gun and I presume IEDs, etc. shooting at and throwing IEDs at/towards the cops who are also pulling out their pistols and returning fire. I see that clearly as TT trying to do suicide by cop. He might or might not have been trying to sacrifice himself so his younger brother DT could escape. But TT was definitely doing suicide by cop.

If he really wanted a suicide by cop then he would have walked toward them with his gun pointed at them and not firing at them and throwing IEDs. That was no suicide by cop.

They don't owe this man anything. It is not his right to enter the country.

It has been reported that the brothers were short one gun, needed a gun for the younger brother, thus the reason for shooting the MIT cop in his car. However, his gun was in a locked holster and they were unable to obtain it. At the shootout, TT is reportedly walking toward the officers shooting and runs out of ammunition. This would mean he has the only gun the brothers have. So did DT even have a gun on the boat? If so, where did it come from?

As far as DT allegedly telling them it was only him and his brother, and training was via the internet, and he only knew about it 1 week in advance (well, that flies in the face of training via internet), don't fall for it.

It's like asking who the kingpin drug dealer is. No one is going to rat. Not only is that the "honor among thieves" code, they know they will be killed in a heinous manner if they do, and/or their loved ones.

Besides, the Feds can find out just how much internet activity, with whom, how long, etc... on their own.

There are some interesting theories out, based on Twitter messages allegedly by DT dating back months before the Marathon bombings.

Not sure I buy into all of this guy's ideas, but I hope LE looks into it.

Special Report: The radicalization of Tamerlan Tsarnaev

Alissa de Carbonnel and Stephanie SimonReuters
7:32 a.m. CDT, April 23, 2013

MAKHACHKALA, Russia/CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts (Reuters) - In America, he had been a cocky and charismatic heavyweight boxer who wore fancy pointy leather shoes and slick white shirts down to the gym.

In Dagestan, the volatile southern Russian region where he lived for a time as a teen and returned to spend the first half of 2012, he became a quiet young man who spent his days online studying Islam, nursing a growing anger against heretics.

Exactly what turned Tamerlan Tsarnaev into the suspect accused of three murders and mass wounding in the Boston Marathon bombings may never be known. He died in a gunfight with police leaving no explanation. His younger brother and alleged co-conspirator Dzhokhar is in hospital, barely able to speak.

But a picture has emerged in the days since Tamerlan was killed of a proud but angry young man who never quite achieved his own idea of the American dream, but found solace instead in a radical form of Islam adopted by fighters in his homeland.

What now seems clear is that he was deeply influenced by a few months' sojourn in Makhachkala, Muslim Dagestan's capital on the Caspian Sea, where children in the street play "cops and guerrillas" and bombings and shootings are everyday news.

"His radical turn could very well have happened here," Dagestani sociologist Zaid Abdulagatov said. "The Islam that we have in Dagestan today is very tough, very politicized, very dark at times."

That's what I said when I first read their backstory! lol He felt like a loser who couldn't succeed in life so he sought religion for comfort and became radicalized.

BBM Does this mean they didn't find evidence of TT being trained by hard-core terrorist groups while overseas? That he merely observed childplay of "cops and guerillas" and read/watch the news about bombings and such and decided to MIMIC them?

We were living in Egypt when 9/11 happened. The comments made by locals really surprised us regarding conspiracy theories, etc.

I don't want to say much more because it would then really belong in the Political Pavilion, but I had realized something years prior when introducing a Serbian friend to a Croatian friend (<--- huge mistake) that came back when listening to the 9/11 comments: some of these issues go back hundreds or maybe thousands of years. I have not walked their shoes nor been raised with the conflicts that these people have been. As far-fetched as some of these theories seem to someone raised in the US or another 'Western' country (i.e., not the Middle East or war-torn Eastern Europe), these conflicts and distrust run deep into the hearts of the people I've met.

I hope that's not too much to say on this thread - just trying to convey that it's something most of us here in the US cannot wrap our minds around.

And those beliefs are so deep seeded, they won't be changing in this generation and probably not for many generations to come.

I don't understand it - but then I think about how people are so quick to jump to the Middle Eastern ties whenever something happens. That mindset has only come for the US since 9/11. It happened here...we all saw that!

And that's only a decade+ ago! Not the centuries that some of these countries have been dealing with conflict!

I won't assume everyone from a certain demographic are evil...and I won't live my life that way! Sadly, that's not the mindset some have. "If they are from there, they have the ability to kill us all" is a slippery slope to no place good!

Would the Mother be allowed back in the country with a shop lifting charge on her record? Is it a misdemeanor or felony in MA?

Did the parents become US citizens? If they did not, can they only be out of the USA for a certain period of time without losing admittance back into the country? If the father has been gone for two years, did not get USA citizenship, then will he be able to get back in? I don't know what the rules are but IMO there should be restrictions on this.

The is pretty crazy. The US government doesn't use Soundex to catch variant spellings of names?

Soundex, for those who are not into genealogy, is a phonetic algorithm for indexing names by sound, as pronounced in English. The goal is for homophones to be encoded to the same representation so that they can be matched despite minor differences in spelling.
[ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soundex"]Soundex - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame]

Variations of the Soundex algorithm are built into all kinds of database software. It's insane if the government does not use it to catch variations or mistakes in names for something as important as tracking travels of persons of interest. And TT should have been a person of interest after the Russion query into his activities!

The whole point of plots like this is to act perfectly normal, to now draw attention onto oneself. That's why after the bombing he went back to school, hung out in the dorm/parties.

The ones who are the most dangerous are not your enemies. They are your friends, the ones pretending to pat you on the back while holding the knife behind theirs. It's no different here, they wanted to look innocent.

I believe that might have been the whole intent of the two brothers' terrorist attack: to strike at the hearts of Americans and make us mistrust each other and feel paranoid and scared and suspicious of one another on a daily basis -- essentially to make us feel as they believe civilians in countries at constant war feel.

So this would mean the younger brother DT did NOT have a gun, correct? Then how did he reportedly shoot himself through the mouth into the back of his throat in a suicide attempt? And why did they say DT was shooting at the cops and the cops returned fire if he had no gun?

This is what I've been asking since it was reported. Since DT exited the boat without a gun, did LE find a gun in the boat or not?

We need facts. STAT. lol

No, does not appear to be correct. According to what NYT reported, an M-4 rifle was found in the boat.

"Along with determining that the suspects had made at least five pipe bombs, the authorities recovered four firearms that they believe the suspects used, according to a law enforcement official. The authorities found an M-4 carbine rifle — a weapon similar to ones used by American forces in Afghanistan — on the boat where the younger suspect was found Friday night in Watertown, Mass., 10 miles west of Boston."

You know, I wouldn't mind it so much if he got life, but the thing that makes my blood boil over is that he will get any and all medical care he needs with no problem. He will not be financially responsible for any care he might need. On the other hand, those he and his brother maimed will not be so fortunate. I understand just about all of the victims that lost a limb/limbs will be transitioned to rehab this week and my guess is they will be inpatient rehab maybe 2 weeks, 4 max then send home. At that point, any further care that might be needed will have to be paid for and at least 2 people

Late response as I just woke up. Could have been covered by someone else.

IMO the laws should be changed in this area. The criminal doesn't have to pay for their medical care, then the victim should have theirs taken care of by the state as well. All care related to the injuries that the rapist, attempted murder, assaulter etc caused.

IMO. I think a majority of people would agree with that.

Am I the only one who feels the younger brother was brainwashed and coerced into this?

No, you're not the only one. Even though I believe the younger brother is legally an adult* and had the choice to not become a terrorist/murderer and hence, DT has to take full responsibility and accountability for his own depraved actions, I also believe DT was brainwashed by his older brother (and also his mom's 9/11 truther conspiracies).

Disclaimer: Legally DT is an adult, but I still call anyone under the age of 20 a "kid" in the sense that they are still in their "teens". E.g., 19 = nine-"teen", and that they are not fully formed adults yet because they are in the formative stage between adolescence and adulthood and are seeking meaning to their lives and don't have a clear self-concept of who they are yet. My calling them a "kid" does not mean they hold no responsibility for their own choices in life.

Thanks for this! Is this the only weapon found on the boat? How did DT use this long, clumsy rifle on himself to shoot through his own mouth into the back of his neck? Is that maneuver possible?

Thanks JJ, I was sure I read they had more guns. Including what you have quoted, there is this quote:

Two handguns and a BB gun that the authorities believe the brothers used in an earlier shootout with officers in Watertown were also recovered, said one official briefed on the investigation.

So many conflicting reports! I'm going to guess there may have been more at the various residences?! Argh, we are stuck with waiting whatever is officially released. Can't believe any sources at this point.

The odd thing is this article is saying that TT is the one that is brainwashed. Lol. Sorry, but the "brainwashed" bit doesn't work for me. Not with the family dynamics, known issues with TT, and both TT and DT were adults, living on their own for some time, and old enough to make their own decisions. Poor choices, yes, but choices made. Not induced by brainwashing, hypnosis, drugs, aliens, or demonic powers from the other side of the living.

Where are you finding the information that it was only a week and he told them all this. I have read all the threads and thought I read most everything that I have not seen this at all. Can you provide a link or anyone else that is still here?

Sent from my SCH-S720C using Tapatalk 2

I gave the source in the post. "ABC NIGHTLINE" from last night's tv program.

Yep, sounds like she has now realised that her boys are guilty and is throwing the older one under the bus to save the remaining one. Not that it matters, he's already been under a car.

I'm thinking DT tried to run down the cops to save his brother and hit his brother by accident. Possibly being not a good driver or just really under the stress of the gunfight made him not realize he was going to hit his brother. I don't think Dt intended to kill TT. I think he was going after the cops.

I also think DT should be charged for all the crimes of himself and TT, seeing as how he could have stopped it or at least warned someone. To make an example, he should bear the brunt of all of it since TT is dead, IMO.

Am I the only one who feels the younger brother was brainwashed and coerced into this?

Nope, i am convinced he was given everything we know about his personality and behavior before the bombings. In no way does it excuse what he did but i think the idea of trying to turn him into the mastermind is ludicrous. He deserves all the punishment coming from him but if i were a juror i would vote lwop.

WOW -- http://www.godvine.com/Marine-Amput...oston-Bombing-That-Lost-Their-Limbs-3188.html

Two Marines visit Boston Marathon bombing victims Celeste and Sydney in the hospital, offering words of encouragement. One Marine is a double amputee as well and showed the women that life isn't over for them and that there are great things in store for them.

The thanks button was not enough. Wow is right. What amazing people we see here. I really hope that family (as well as our military heros) are getting the assistance they need in every possible way.
