I don't know which vehicle they were in at the college.

They carjacked they guy in the Mercedes SUV. While at the gas station getting snacks, the hostage ran away. He left his phone in the car. They used this to track them to Watertown. There was a small car they processed at that scene. So they seemed to be in two vehicles???

So what vehicle was used at MIT?

I don't know if they went somewhere and picked up their other bombs and guns/grenades, etc and put in the SUV or if they were already in the car.

I want to know why they were in Watertown, did they have family/friends there?

I believe suspect #2 left the scene in the SUV (running over and dragging suspect 1/he was alive and handcuffed). They found the SUV not far away. Hence the BOLOs for possible stolen cars. Suspect left blood in the SUV (I think) and around town.

This is from my memory....perhaps someone has a timeline handy

I've seen them. Compared to what he did to all those bombing I don't even think it's that gorey. Or maybe I'm just desensitized to it after what we've all seen in photos in the last week.

I have heard this. Why in the world would he kill his own brother. I read he charged the police and his brother at a high rate of speed. ty

Hi all! I'm late to the discussion but not to the case - have been following it all week. How awful!! My heart goes out to the victims and their families.

Just wanted to post a few comments:

I'm not sure the injury happened while he was in the boat because CNN reported that they were able to see a blood trail. The house owner in whose yard the boat was also became suspicious when he saw blood on the tarp which was on the boat. So he must have been bleeding already before he climbed in there.

But possibly he was injured from the shootout on Thursday night and additionally tried to kill himself when he realized he was surrounded.

There are pictures of him standing up in the boat in the process of climbing out. They are on page 4 (I think) of this thread.

It was said on CNN in one of the interviews with a police or FBI person that he has two guards at his bedside at all times, and is handcuffed to the bed. There are also more guards outside his room. Eight in all, IIRC.

What I don't understand is this:

As we know on Thursday night they hijacked a car and driver. They drove to Watertown and were found by police and chased. They started throwing grenades and pipebombs and even a pressure cooker bomb at police. The older brother had a suicide vest on. Additionally they had guns. Police found more than 200 rounds on the scene of that shootout. And when the younger brother was found in the boat he started shooting at police, so he also had at least one weapon plus ammo with him.

So that's a lot of weapons and bombs and ammonition to carry around. How did they not cause any suspicion walking around with all of that before they hijacked the car?

Another thing I don't understand is why FBI released these particular pictures and videos on Thursday. A day later other pictures that were clearly from the same video surveillance (same clothes, hats etc) were released and they were far better, you could recognize them much more easily. So why did they at first release pictures and video on which is was much more difficult to recognize them?

I was wondering whether LA already knew who they are (especially given the fact that Tamerlan was at one point questioned in the past by FBI and they probably recognized him immediately on the surveillance videos) and the release of these pictures on Wednesday were not for the purpose of identifying them but for flushing them out - which they clearly accomplished (sadly with another innocent life lost though).

What are your thoughts?

I think you may be right.
I think we may be seeing more of this in future events.
I am not sure though, an enhanced image form the start,
when needing to ID as suspect, might resolve an issue quicker.
Then again do they want "Joe Public" taking the law into their own hands?
Tricky sticky situation.
I do know that the media did alter some of the pics from the scene.

Did The Daily News Touch Up A Boston Marathon Bombing Photo To Make It Less Gory? - not gonna link this, the phrase can be googled.

The pic already ran in a photo spread that was on the front page on April 16th.

“The Daily News edited that photo out of sensitivity to the victims, the families and the survivors. There were far more gory photos that the paper chose not to run, and frankly I think the rest of the media should have been as sensitive as the Daily News.”

No need to cross that line I agree.
Daily Mail gets a brownie point!

Capri true the pic is not that bad. Would be nice if someone could stick a light inside that hole though. I wanna see what's in there. (clearly no heart).

I've just seen a better pic the left side of dashcar's face / neck. Trauma must be to the right side. Think he has an earplug in too.

----------
I agree ginger. I hate all the papers that had the pulse check pic on the front page.
Good for the daily news for cleaning it up a bit. Not everyone wants to see it.

Perhaps a failed suicide mission thinking LE would fire at him or just wanting to get away. Brother was "collateral damage".

MOO

"Around school, Tsarnaev was known as a guy who loved soccer and brushed off invitations to join the Muslim Student Association on campus, according to its president, Ahmad Nassri.

“I was trying to pull him into the group,” Nassri said. “He didn’t really want it. I think he attended one meeting. He defined himself as a Muslim but if you asked him if he was religious he would say, ’No.’”

Bettencourt said he had found disturbing the casual way Tsarnaev chatted about the bombings during his gym workout.

“I don’t know how he talked about it. I don’t know what was going on in his head,” Bettencourt said"

Obviously another case of PTSD fognesia!

Just watched the online CNN video of Lingzi Lu. So heartbreaking. BU said they will probably award her Masters posthumously. She was only one class away from graduating.

The video just after hers was about the statement by Martin's family. The reporter said that his little sister had wanted to be a dancer. I hope in my heart of hearts that she pursues that dream.
Wonderful news about Lingzi Lu's Masters. I hope it brings her parents a tiny bit of comfort at this time.

I hope that the best prosthetics are being made for the victims - these days prosthetics allow for nearly any type of physical activity. I'm sure they can make a special one for little Jane so that she can still be a dancer.

I would love to see, one day, Jeff Bauman do the Boston Marathon. Wouldn't that be great?!

Young dancer excels with prosthetics.

I've been looking for something all day and can't find it. In one of the articles about the detainees in New Bedford, there was mention that the brothers occasionally mentioned another brother and that he drove a green Honda. We all know there was a subsequent BOLO on a green Honda that was subsequently lifted. I didn't pay much attention to the "other brother" comments at the time, thought it was just a screwup in reporting ... however ...

On J_tsar's twitter, on March 18, he tweeted "in my time, as an uncle of 4 now ...."

https://twitter.com/J_tsar

Do we know if his sister in NY has children, and if so, how many?

I think he has 2 sisters and both have children.
his twitter is creepy.

So far, Sixty Minutes tonight has been very good. Has it already played in the East?

Four student buddies who said he (Dzhokhar) wasn't the slightest bit religious. He wouldn't join their Muslim something or rather group. Had no interest.

A young women who knew him in high school and really liked him.

A man in the Franklin Avenue neighborhood (the boat) who had hired him as a lifeguard about 3 years ago and can barely believe what happened. Said he was a great kid back then.
