Tamerlan Tsarnaev vowed to die for Islam; judge may have prematurely stopped brother's interrogation, sources say

Some Republican lawmakers have criticized the Obama administration for deciding against treating Tsarnaev as an enemy combatant, which would allow more time for interrogating him. The public safety exception to Miranda lasts only 48 hours.

I don't hear the suspects screaming anything, not at 0:35 or 0:40 or 0:45 or any other time. In the noisy firing din, what I do hear beginning 0:35 are the police shouting "Come out here, come out here, come out!" and "Put your hands up!" "FBI" and at 1:10 "Hold your fire!" and then finally the media announcers saying at the end of video 2:01 "We know it's 2 o'clock in the morning and bullets are being fired, shots are being fired in your, right outside your door, and uh" (Video then cuts off).

So no, I don't believe a word the truthers/conspiracy nuts are claiming that the brothers were framed/set up. No way, no how, in this lifetime did that happened.

This is directed at any and all "truthers" out there: Give it up and get a life! Stop making BS up to inflame an already incendiary situation in America. Stop giving lowlives reasons to become more distrusting, hateful and up-in-arms vengeful against us Americans. If you want to make yourselves useful, think of real productive ways to bring PEACE and HAPPINESS to EVERYONE regardless of race, gender, religion, etc. Get smart. Read up on civil, peaceful ways to resolve problems. Don't be a hater. Learn to love, and spread some love. Not hate, divisiveness and ignorance.

BBM Excuse me, but is there something wrong with wanting the truth in any and all situations? I don't believe everything I hear and not much of what I see. To each their own, but when you direct something "at any and all "truthers" out there," I feel insulted, and wonder why anyone needs to degrade those who want truth, and feel they may not be getting it.

I think they just picked up a handful of backpacks all at once off the same rack, nothing more.

The Salon article above links to apartment guys photos. Says they show only one of them had a gun. Well, I cannot tell that. Can anyone here see anything in them?

http://www.getonhand.com/blogs/news/7743337-boston-bombing-suspect-shootout-pictures

I can't make much out of those pictures, but I did spot a photo that showed a bullet hole through his roommate's wall. Glad no one in that neighborhood was injured from the spray of bullets flying around.

It's a Salon article, but I think a good one.

The Changing Facts

http://www.salon.com/2013/04/25/the_changing_facts_in_the_boston_investigation/

I think it's a decent article but not researched enough. For instance,

Trip to NYC - What the suspects did after the bombing remains a mystery, but one detail that emerged was that they were planning to head to New York City — to party. That’s what New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said yesterday. But today, NBC News reports the brothers discussed trying to detonate a bomb in Times Square, but that the plan was not well developed and “aspirational at most.”
Who said the party and the bomb thing would happen at the same time anyway? Or else, I just missed it. If it wasn't said, then this article adds to the confusion.

Also...

According to a New York Times report from April 21 citing a law enforcement official, “The authorities found an M-4 carbine rifle…two handguns and a BB gun.” Now unnamed sources say there was only a single 9mm pistol between the two brothers.
We want info from official, but since they often speak with anonymity, no one can go back and say where the misinformation came from or even verify it was law enforcement. The original article ...

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/22/u...ped-to-attack-again.html?_r=1&pagewanted=all&

More details of what the authorities said was the original plot were becoming clearer. The Boston police commissioner, Edward Davis, said the authorities believed that Mr. Tsarnaev and his older brother, Tamerlan, 26, had planned more attacks beyond the bombings

...Mr. Davis told CBS News’s “Face the Nation” on Sunday: “We have reason to believe, based upon the evidence that was found at that scene — the explosions, the explosive ordnance that was unexploded and the firepower that they had — that they were going to attack other individuals.”

Along with determining that the suspects had made at least five pipe bombs, the authorities recovered four firearms that they believe the suspects used, according to a law enforcement official. The authorities found an M-4 carbine rifle — a weapon similar to ones used by American forces in Afghanistan — on the boat where the younger suspect was found Friday night in Watertown, Mass.

Two handguns and a BB gun that the authorities believe the brothers used in an earlier shootout with officers in Watertown were also recovered, said one official briefed on the investigation.
So, maybe journalists will try to ferret this out instead of just summarizing a few snippets and make things worse or leave them just as muddy.

IDK, is it possible they used other guns and disposed of them and they only found one gun?

I can't make much out of those pictures, but I did spot a photo that showed his a bullet whole through his roommate's wall. Glad no one in that neighborhood was injured from the spray of bullets flying around.

Best I can tell from the first few is that both are hunkered down in shooting pose.

I saw the chair on the morning news, live, man, that was scary, and am happy the neighborhood remained in tact and safe. Bombs at your front door and shoot outs, I wouldn't be at the window. I'd be hiding somewhere away from it.

Presser:

NY Times was next on terrorist list. They had made the bombs, according to the mayor. Alive suspect said he and his brother spontaneously decided they would drive to NY that night. They saw they were low on gas, and stopped at 7/11. Five pipe bombs, six total bombs, in their possession.

Mentioned up thread, by hockeymom iirc, a presser about Times Square being a possible target?

Possible ? Yeah. But I doubt it.

From the moment the first bomb exploded the suspects were deemed armed & dangerous, and for dang good reason.

But in the end without the bombs they had one gun.jmo

Officials: Boston suspects discussed second attack in Times Square

http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/201...d-attack-in-times-square#.UXldHZ7rvPE.twitter

Yes! Was just on NPR Talk of the Nation - T has told authorities they planned to drive to NYC
and detonate bombs in Times Square. Something about stopping at the Seven-Eleven to get
gas - had bombs with them - that ordinance then used in the encounter-shootout with police.

These guys were going for broke! Were all in. Why?

Just heard Megyn say that the FBI was told they were to be given 48 hours to interrogate and were only given 16. When the Federal magistrate walked in they were taken by surprise. No warning. But based on the fact that he said they were going to party in NYC,who could believe anything he says anyway? What information they got from him could be all untrue.
I'm anxious to know how they found out that Times Square was the next target? Maybe computer records? Thank God they let that carjack guy go,we might never have known how to find these guys and there might have been more lives lost.

I have no idea how they know about Times Square, hopefully that is being said in the presser, and someone will tell us.

The brothers didn't let carjack guy go, he escaped. Fortunately!

Anyone know what kind of lawyer Uncle Ruslan is? We know he's a lawyer, grad from Duke Law. But what is his expertise?

He's a lawyer for an oil company.

the cops were told to hold their fire and to stay out of the perimeter when they were approaching the boat. they did not fire on the boat at any time as far as I remember from listening to the scanner ALL day on Friday. I'd have to go back and read the scanner to remember if DT was firing on the cops from the boat. I think there were a few pops heard but it was unclear where they came from or what they were. But they were told to hold their fire. I know the boat has bullet holes in it so at some point they obviously fired on the boat, but I can't remember when. I gotta read the scanner to remember.

Police were told to hold their fire because they were firing. Told to hold their fire b/c they wanted to "take him alive."

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/25/anzor-tsarnaev-us-bomb-suspect-father-boston_n_3154238.html

The father wants to see his son. Does anyone knows if he will be allowed to do that?

No, I linked a news report earlier (thead p. 35) that authorities have said he will not be allowed to see his son.

As I had said, time and time again, someone -- whether LE or media or what have you -- jumped the gun in their reports. It takes time to assess and analyze real evidence. But nowadays with twitter, facebook, etc., everyone wants news in real time and even faster so there's bound to be rumors and misinformation. I think the public needs to learn that in order to get the most accurate news, we have to be more patient and allow TIME before details about a newsstory becomes clear. As is, if we want news in real time, we'll have to accept broad outlines of events without actual details and await the details to come in (much) later reportings.

The problem is not with the public, though, in this case, bourne, and in this case I respectfully disagree with you. True, the public wants information--but to provide disinformation undermines the public's trust in those they're needing to trust. The public's need for information is not forcing LE to say any one particular thing, nor is it twisting LE's arm to say what they obviously would have to have known was in error (due to suspect #2 being unarmed at arrest). The problem, IMO, was that LE volunteered erroneous, misleading info in videoed news conferences they themselves set up. There is no excuse for that. They should not volunteer what has not yet been verified when describing what 'went down.' The police chief and/or commissioner should not be saying to media and White House officials that gunfire "was exchanged" when it was not--when the suspect they took into custody had no gun on him, nor was there one in the boat. Nor should they be speculating about his neck wound perhaps being attempted suicide when they themselves could see upon his arrest that he was unarmed. His being unarmed upon arrest should NOT have come out in the news a week after his arrest, after swat teams have been on news talk shows talking up the 'exchange of gunfire' at the boat.

This came from the White House Press Secretary:

Mr. Carney [the White House press secretary] said the government had gotten “valuable intelligence” from suspects kept in the civilian judicial process. “The system has repeatedly proven it can handle” such cases, he said.
Mr. Tsarnaev, 19, remained in a Boston hospital in serious condition. The authorities said they believed that he had tried to kill himself, because a gunshot wound to his neck “had the appearance of a close-range, self-inflicted style,” the senior United States official said.
