A man accused of sexually abusing children and their mothers in the Portland area used online dating profiles to worm his way into their homes, court records allege.
Authorities are investigating at least four separate sex abuse cases against Antonio Arredondo, 37, and said they believe there are likely other victims in the Pacific Northwest who haven’t yet been identified.
In court documents, Washington County prosecutors described Arredondo as a drifter who met single mothers through Facebook Dating and sought to quickly move in with them because he was otherwise homeless.
“These mothers are intelligent women who work full time, have housing and lead otherwise normal, productive lives,” prosecutor Rayney Meisel wrote in a memo seeking to hold Arredondo without bail. “He has been able to manipulate his way into their homes and into their daughters’ bedrooms.”
Two women reported Arredondo to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Tigard Police Department last year, but he was able to stay off the grid until his arrest Tuesday, prosecutors said.
In the first case, Arredondo is charged in Washington County Circuit Court with first-degree rape, sodomy and sexual abuse stemming from a yearlong relationship he had with a woman in Tigard in 2022, records show.
After the relationship broke off, the woman’s daughter reported being repeatedly sexually abused to a school counselor, according to court records. The girl was 8 to 9 years old at the time and Arredondo had sought power of attorney over her “in case something happened” to the mother, prosecutors said.
